Alright, I'm tired, so I figured I'd leave the questions up to y'all this time around. So ask any question, no matter how ridiculous, and I'll answer it. One per post, puh-leeze.

Okay, it'll exentually be asked.

Favorite TV Show and Favorite Movie

They kinda go together so I think it should count as one question.

This changes all the time, but favorite TV show ever would probably be The Simpsons. Or Cheers. Or the Larry Sanders Show. Favorite movie also varies every time, but Pulp Fiction will always be on the list, as will the first halves of Office Space and Full Metal Jacket. And Desperado. And the second half of Willy Wonka. And Arthur. And Braveheart. And Road House, of course.

Those are horribly normal answers, I know.

Currently, my favorite TV show is Da Ali G show, and my favorite movie is The Bourne Supremacy.

I'm going to the movies this weekend and i don't know what to see? I like everything (almost). I mean i will be happy with that movie ancherman or even the pincess diarys 2 soo. But i want to see a really good movie. I haven't goone in a long time and i want to see a movie that stays with you. Greatfull for any help.

Sure, I've got a couple of good ones.

1) If you could be any Metallica band member (past or present), which one would you be and why?

2) What upcoming comics are you looking forward to?

3) Would you really let Rich Johnson write "Firefly" for IDW? If so, why?

And since turnabout is fair play, gimme some to answer.. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

So, since most people seem to be asking more than one question, I will stick to the rules. My question is.....

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:26 PM
What do I want to be when I grow up? Why, Magnum P.I., of course.

I'd also settle for Johnny Cash. Barring either of those things happening, I'll say that this year has made me finally feel like I'm finally heading toward having the career and life that I've always wanted. Minus the big buckets of cash that would also be nice to have...

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:28 PM
Whatever tree grows tall enough to attract lots of birds who would then shit on the car of people who ask trite questions...

Barring that, a carpathian elm. They're purty on the inside.

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:29 PM
I'd be a big fondue pot with a nasty old roach in it, because people who eat fondue look to be enjoying themselves a little too much, and a nice cockroach would wipe that smile off their self-satisfied faces.

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:34 PM
Wait, was your question the Beatles song one or which movie should you see? You should see The Bourne Supremacy. Or Spider-Man 2 again. Or even Garden State.

And yeah, the Beatles.

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:36 PM
I was 16 and it was Depeche Mode. Oddly enough (to us, anyway), my future wife was at the same show, but we didn't meet for over a decade after that.

It's not anything to brag about, but yeah, I've heard of much worse first concerts, usually people that got dragged to, like, Cher by their evil parents.

Which of the following is your kiss most like: a gentle breeze, a firm handshake, or a jackhammer?

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:43 PM
Three concerts? I'm not entirely sure of the actual show like some audiophiles. Like, I know some people would say "The Boss at Roseland on June 30, 1973" or something, but I don't know about that. I would've liked to see the Doors in about 1967, just to see if Morrison was actually impressive live or just a drunken fool spouting gibberish; also, maybe Hendrix at Woodstock and Rage Against the Machine's last show. And any Gwar show.

Incidentally, I never, ever need to see the Boss live.

Man, I'm horrible at this.

Ryall
08-02-2004, 09:45 PM
I'd say it depends who I'm kissing, and also where on their body I'm kissing them. All styles have their proper place.

I said one to a customer, dammit! Ah, well, employees get bonus questions, I guess...

>1) If you could be any Metallica band member (past or present), which one would you be and why?

Not Dave Mustaine, based on that movie. I guess it'd be Kirk. He's quiet, just does his thing and doesn't get into fights with the two big egos in the band and has lots of money. Plus, you know, he shreds on the guitar.

2) What upcoming comics are you looking forward to?

New Grimjack! (I don't even mean that as just a blatant plug, either) Um...new titles? Can't even think. I really dig Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. And I want to see what Alex Robinson does next. And...man, I'm horrible at this. Can't think of anything right now. Cassiday's Humanoids stuff and...you know, other good stuff.

3) Would you really let Rich Johnson write "Firefly" for IDW?

Nnnnnnnnnope. But it's cute that Rich believed it. Me, I say the only color light he should've used on that rumor was a bright RED one.

>And since turnabout is fair play, gimme some to answer..

My question is, what upcoming cool-sounding comics did I neglect to mention?

Also, would you rather be Dave Mustaine or Axl Rose?

And lastly, how did the Dodgers manage to take what'd been a great, inspirational season and just destroy it all with some horrible trades they didn't need and that make me not care if they win or not? Basically, how did the Dodgers make the way the lakers bungled things with Shaq look like a genius deal? Man, I'm so bitter about this. This is worse than the Piazza thing. This...er, sorry, this is no longer a question, is it?

Looking forward to new 30 Days series, Grimjack (both suck up answers) and Cassaday's Hummanoids. Kinda jazzed to see how Batman: War Games turns out. Doc Frankenstein looks interesting. My morbid curiosity is intrigued with GL: Rebirth. And for whatever reason, I'm wondering how Devil's Due/Chuck Dixon does with Breakdown. For ongoings, Indentity Crisis reads great and I'm liking Whedon's style on Astonishing.

BTW, when is Alex Robinson cgonna put something out? I've been waiting since the ending of BOP.

Axl in a second. Sure Axl's delusional but he still owns all of the GnR stuff and name. Total cash cow. Dave is still haunted by the ghosts of early 80's Metallica. That's really sad.

Welcome to the bitter world that is a Red Sox way of life (I've been one since '78). I feel that way for the Sox now. I know that they had to get rid of Nomah but it still hurts. Good call on Doc Frankenstein--both of those Burlyman books sounds pretty solid.

And yeah, against my better judgement, I'm into seeing the Hal Jordan GL thing, too.

I read Astonishing X-Men 3 after my last post today. Man, that book's phenomenal. Whedon has managed to capture the characters' personalities perfectly, building on even some of the goofier bits of Morrison's run and making it all make sense.

If you could lure anyone to IDW, who would you want? (A writer, a penciler and a cover artist)

Ryall
08-04-2004, 02:03 PM
Good question!

For writer, I'd say me...(and just you wait)...but also I'd like to see some of the good older guys who should be working get more work. People like Mike Baron and Mike Grell. But also some newer folks like Garth Ennis or Eric Powell (I want the Goon here!). And Brian Lynch, once he gives up the humor thing and turns to dark, twisted horror.

For artist, I'd love Richard Corben, Bernie Wrightson or Bill Sienkiewicz, maybe Simon Bisley, and if I could get Davd Mazzucchelli to do more comics, I'd be my own hero. It's also gonna be fun trying out new people and maybe finding the "next" big name.

I will say that more than two of the above names, not counting me, are in the works, too, if I can make it happen.

For cover artist, Glenn Fabry does some good stuff, but Dave McKean would be awesome. And Greg Horn, of course (kidding, kidding).

So many names of people I'd love to have working on stuff here. And I'm working on it.

Any suggestions from you, Britt or anyone else?

Hmmm...well, since you guys are open to working with celebs (*cough* thomas jane *cough*) that are into comics I would love to see what Shane Black (writer of Lethal Weapon, Last Boyscout) would do in comics. Shane is a HUGE comic book guy not that you would ever really know it.

Artist..hmmm...so many to choose from. How about David Mack?

Ryall
08-04-2004, 02:22 PM
David Mack's work is way too sensitive for us...but you should see the amount of David Mack clones pitching us...

As for Shane Black, wasn't Lethal Weapon enough of a comic book for him? Seriously, that could be cool. He's a good writer, and I'm one of the few people who still thinks fondly of The Last Boy Scout, I think.

I also want to do Road House: The Comic.

Hmmmm.. Writers? Maybe me.. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Nah, not serious enough. But I wouldn't mind seeing relatively new guys like Kirkman or Rucka over at the IDW.

Artists? Maybe new talents like Ryan Sook, Roger Robinson or Rags Morales.

Double threats (writer/penciler) - Paul Pope or Jeff Parker (the interman is the Bourne Identity in comic form; excellent read).

Ryall
08-04-2004, 03:46 PM
When I was a kid, I wanted to be Nova in the worst way. Just seemed cool. But I suppose I'd say Spider-Man, because dude is smart and despite whatever bad luck he thinks he has, he always ends up with hot women. Sure, people close to him have a habit of ending up dead, but still, he's got it pretty good.

And if I was Superman, I'd abuse the x-ray vision thing like crazy.

I also like Preacher's power. Having the Word of God would come in pretty handy, too.

Wolverine and the healing factor and all would be nice, too, but I'd rather be taller, not shorter. So I'll stick with my Spider-Man choice.

FanGirl
08-04-2004, 03:52 PM

Good lord, you kids today! Ya never read New Warriors? I'll accept that no one else remembers the old book from the '70s (by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema and then Carmine Infantino) but am I the only one who knows Rich Rider at all? I bet Britt knows who I mean.

I'd like to see Independence Day and the Mummy remade. Both had so damn much potential to be cool adventure flicks and both were so badly botched.

As to who would do them better...you know, in hindsight as I type this, screw Independence Day. The trailer was only good because CGI was kinda new and looked cool. But M. Night already made a better alien invasion flick and didn't have to blow up anything. So onto remaking The Mummy. I'd cast someone more mild-mannered like Edward Norton and make it some dark, creepy-ass thing. Guillermo del Toro, maybe.

I'd also redo Spider-Man to give him a more current computer than the one he had two years ago. If I was John Byrne, that is.

No, but it's hard to be around Jennifer Lopez.

It's also hard to watch Jennifer Lopez. I watched Gigli last night...and while it's not the evil movie everyone said, it is pretty awful. What happened to the Jennifer Lopez from Out of Sight? This current model always sounds like she's doing nothing but reciting someone else's dialogue.

Remember that avatar Zens made for you, a while back ?

The one with the guy in the Ballerina, Peter Pan-nish get up. Yeah ?

...Anyways, I saw that guy on Conan, like last week or something. [Hilarious] And it made me think of you...But I wasn't touching myself or anything, if that's what you were thinkin'.

So , um ? Hows life treating you ? ( Not so ) new Wife and two jobs and all ? Do you feel stretched too thin ? Like Gibson in "BaveHeart" ?

Ryall

That Peter Pan guy got on Conan? Man, wish I'd seen that. I assume he was in full Pan gear? Awesome.

As for how it's been with the new job...it's good, but yeah, if it hasn't been obvious, my spare time has pretty much completely disappeared of late. The wife was only just able to move down to SD this past weekend, so for the first three weeks, working all day then working on the site all night wasn't an issue since I was solo and would've otherwise spent my nights watching porn. (Well, I made time for both) But now that she's here...I'm trying to find a way to juggle the two. It should level off once I get used to the new gig, though.

And it's not like it's hard work, really--I mean, I sit on the computer all day, so for me to say it's hard work is a bit lame--people working construction work hard, I don't. And the best part is I really dig the new gig, too. Wish I could talk more about it and the conversations and projects I'm working on every day, but that feels tacky to me.

At any rate, thanks for asking -- I realize my time around here has been pretty limited especially, but I do at least read most of what goes on around here, even if don't always have time to participate.

Interview by committee, I like it. With regards to not using Lynch until he gets serious, don’t you think it’s funny that you would discourage humor in a comic book? That’s not my question; don’t answer that.

Riddle me this: Who will watch the Watchmen? You? I was browsing the news items on the site recently and read the bit about Watchmen making its way to the big screen and wasn’t sure how to react. People always complain that the adaptation of great literature for the silver screen invariably tarnishes the source material and what you end up with is some kind of travesty. Maybe in this case I would agree.

I don’t think the universal text to image conversion rate (1000 words = 1 image) applies to Alan Moore. I don’t believe that a picture of a raft buoyed by bloated and decaying human bodies could possibly have the same impact as Moore’s prose in it’s depiction of the same scene. The irony for me is that writers traditionally use words to create a picture, but Moore’s written work far exceeds anything the visual medium can produce. That’s the case for me, anyway.

And what about Manhattan? Sure, you could whip up a CGI Manhattan easily enough, but how are going to convey his non-linear sense of time? Maybe Quentin Tarantino could direct those “sequences.” I don’t know. I’ll probably end up watching it if it gets made, but I’m setting my expectations appropriately.

What are your thoughts about the project, Sir?

I still tend think Watchmen will never actually happen, no matter who's name is attached to it. And yeah, there's really no way a movie version will make the same points or have the same impact that Moore's story did. Especially to novice comic fans who won't get the way the story deconstructs the old myths.

So I'd just as soon not see this one on the big screen. Aronofsky's involvement does sound intriguing, though. He's one of a few people who actually might be able to pull this off.

It could be done properly if it was a mini-series co-produced by HBO and the BBC with Peter Jackson directing.

Jeff Probst from survivor. He is annoying and I hate the show anyway. It completely started a whole era of reality TV.

Osama Bin Laden, For hooking up with Al Quada to crash those planes into the world trade. I miss the world trade center in NYC. It is disturbing to think that I used to stand on top of them and now they are gone.

I would have chosen spiderman if he was more like the peter parker in the movie with slits in his rists for web instead of a mechanicle web shooter. But I think I would choose Superman because of the ability to fly and superstrength. But the downside, I think Banky said it best in mallrats is that the only woman he could screw would be wonderwoman. If he screws anyone else they will die accept with a kryptonite condom like banky said...

Dude, all of those questions were directed towards Chris. If you actually read the whole thread, we were supposed to ask him one question each, and he was gonna answer them.

Now, didn't you also just harp on monaof2 (?) for putting multiple posts in a row in another thread?

No, but you can probably Google it and find out.

Edit: Yup, you can definitely find the UK release date by doing a search on Google. I did.

Nope. But go to their official site (http://www.somekindofmonster.com/) and keep an eye on the release dates section. There's an area for International Release but nothing for the U.K. listed there yet.

However, it must be available elsewhere online, according to RATM, so look around a bit.

Or, wait, that might be how you get to Carnegie Hall. I always get the two confused. Which is the one with the big wussy wolly mammoth?

If I was on TV, there's a good chance I'd have my underwear off long before it ever caught fire.

My question...

What is your wife most unhappy with when it comes to making whoopie? (Be honest ... and I am not talking about Goldberg )

Jeez, suddenly I'm longing for Razorback's question about what kind of a tree I wish I was.

What's she most unhappy about? Probably my extreme length and girth, of course.

Wow, I'm not even sure how to answer this one. We're newlyweds still, so she hasn't complained about anything yet. Ask this again in a year.
