Taking a cue from another thread, what childhood favorites have you been disappointed by when rediscovering?
For me, I still like the look of The Neverending Story, and that's about it.
Also, I remember the girl Bugaloo being a lot cuter.

I can't watch the ealy Superfriends cartoons where they explain everything over and over again and tell you what they are doing while they are doing it.
Also, being a teenager I couldn't understand why everyone hated Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. I loved it. Then I watched it after college then I understood.
Family Ties stands up, but Growing Pains does NOT.

I saw the original Thunderbirds movie when I was six and I am dissapointed that they are remaking it without the puppets.

Good Morning Vietnam, while not a bad film, just doesn't have the comedic value I once thought it had. Robin Williams' ADD style comedy just doesn't stand the test of time in that film. As for his Broadway performance in 2000, that's still pretty hilarious.
Also, I can't stand the old TMNT cartoons when I see them now. They're so annoying and gimmicky, I can't believe I was completely obsessed with them as a kid.
A rediscovery I loved was Labrynth, starring a young Jennifer Connely and David Bowie's crotch. If I could, I'd retitle the movie "The Muppets take Acid". The helping hands scene is one of those unique but creepy as hell moments that make up the whole movie.

Don't worry about the movie, I read that they're trying to bring the show back using the latest technology implemented into marionettes. Although the show's liklihood of surfacing will most likely depend on the movie's sucess, from what I hear, the puppets are eerily lifelike.
I'm hoping the movie does well, because I'd like to see that show and also because I've been working with one of the kids from the movie for the past three weeks and he's a joy to be around. If I ever get into the movie business, I'd almost want to do all kid's films because kids are so enthusiastic and funny (although you can't curse around them).

Thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot to mention all the great (okay, not good great but bad 80's great) music that's in the film. Watching Bowie perform anywhere is such a treat for me (even his video game concerts in Onikrom, a lost gem).

What babe?
Labyrinth rocks...
The only thing I can think of is Wonder Woman. I used to love watching that on tv as a kid. I recently caught an episode on pay tv and I thought what a load of shite. Like those wristbands could save the world... I dont think so!

Watching any Batman TV show. When I was a kid (7 to 11), I had no concept of "Camp" and I thought that the TV show was a straight ahead show about the Dark Knight. Talk about disappointed. To emphasize this point, I will never ever watch that show or movie again for the rest of my life. Though, I love the Bat-mobile. That one rocks like no one's biz.

Wonderwoman always had the most confusing of powers. I think her character was created on a few drunken dares.
"She'll fly an invisible helicopter!"
"And she'll be vulnerable to handcuffs!"
"And her weapon will be a baseball, no wait... a rope!!"

Lets see Ruined Childhood...
in top 6 form
1. Finding out Santa isnt real
2. Learning that you had to pay to go to the doctor (still trying to figure it out)
3. re-Watching godzilla movies I loved as a kid,and finding out it was shite
4. Discovering the Internet wasnt that cool
5. Beating Super Mario Brothers 3 just to have that bitch Princess Peach tell Mario something along the lines of "good job Bye bye" Not even a kiss. After all the hours of playing that game (without using the Warp Whistle too) Mario should have gotten a BJ or something
6. Finding out that I'm not a child anymore

Oh, I hated the Princess. Another castle? ANOTHER CASTLE?!?! Can't the gal-dang hostage bee-otch stay PUT!?!? What was Bowser, the Viet Cong, with that intricate network of tunnels and warp zones? I'm thinking the Princess had a bad boy fettish, combined with the fact that she's being asked to choose between a guy who may be lizarldly and unattractive, but has at least eight damn kingdoms, compared to a guy who, let's be fair, cleans turtles and shite from pipes and can jump over barrels.
Where was I going with this?

Okay, I guess I could finally reply to this thread.
Battle of the Planets: Man, that show kicked major league ass when I was a kid (back in the late 70's). I actually bought a DVD Boxed set earlier this year and was very disappointed. I was like, "Damn, I liked this stuff?"
I am almost afraid to go looking for the DVDs of another favorite childhood cartoon I liked.....

Can't say I've ever seen that show. Looks like Speed Racer in space. Ah, Speed Racer. Another show I can't believe I actually watched (in reruns, anyway).

Yeah, I've fixed it about 5 times in the past two months and now I've given up. If people don't want me hot linking their images, they should make it illegal.
Why don't you copy the image to your own web page and then link to that? In that way it will stay available for as long as you want it /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

So , meanwhile, back at the ranch , Wingman tried to steer the thread back on topic.
"Scooby Doo" , I friggin' loved Scooby as a kid. From when I was 3 or 4 to about 11, Then I started listening to Michael Jackson. Talk about ruined childhood ! But anyways , I catch a few minutes here and there of Scooby. Flippin' through channels late at night, expecting the warm familiar flood of nostalgia, and instead it makes me sick to my stomach. That " solving the mystery " theme music that plays through your head on continual loop, you can't make it stop ! The atrocious voice acting. Everytime Shaggy speaks, I see Kasey Kasem making contorted faces. The sub-par glass-pass animation doesn't help much either.
I loved Scooby Doo as a kid , now I can't stand the sight, or sound of it.
And I'm not going to talk about Michael, it's just too depressing. Twelve years later and he still wont return my calls.

*Edit*
Hey ratm , I'm going to start calling you Captain Avatar. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Pretty much all the things I liked as a kid I still like now. I guess I was just a pretty cool kid who wasn't into anything lame. Either that or my emotional and mental development has been stunted since the sixth grade. Yeah I know, it's probably the latter.

I still love thundercats and the few episodes that i have
but dogtanian, I made a fuss of getting the 4 dvds to get all 26 episodes, but I'm only halfway through the second dvd and not really in a rush to finish watching them

Hey! I still like Scooby-Doo. Well, there was one new movie that I didn't care for. It was where they get sucked into the video game and have to battle a lot of their old foes. The rest are cool though. Like, "Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders".

zombie island and the one about the witch are probably my favourite recent scooby adventures, the lead singer of Hex was so hot.
