Maybe it's because Ticketmaster is the devil.

Touche!

I don't even listen to radio stations anymore that play current pop music. Of course, around here, you either listen to current pop, country, or classic rock. Classic Rock it is.

I listen to classic rock... but only because if there weren't any music at my job at Friendly's I might kill the [censored] customers. Cleaning dishes sucks [censored]!

I just can't believe Lollapalooza imploded. That was one of the few concerts to look forward to. They had an impressive lineup going on. Sparta, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, The Fire Theft, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Wilco, PJ Harvey, Morissey, Sonic Youth, Pixies, and way more. I mean, Holy Fuckballs^10!! It collapsed due to poor sales. Nobody can afford tickets -- I know I couldn't. It's just way too expensive anymore.

I haven't gone to any big shows in months. The last two concerts I paid to see were Tool and Underworld if that says anything.

Hopefully the powers that be will realize two things:

1. Stop with the anus raping, or at least invest in some lube. Lower the damned prices, you foul concubines of Lucifer.

2. That prank where I buy a CD for $15, then get in my car to play it only to have diarrhea fly out of my speakers? Yeah. That's getting old.

The last big name show I saw was Everclear at a little 3000 seat place a coupla years ago. $5.00...it was awesome. The last big name show that I really wanted to see was APC, at the same place. $45.00...needless to say, I didn't go. I'd rather eat!

Karma, do you like the flaming lips?

I heard their song "Do You Realize," on that NISSAN commercial, and loved it. Then my friend told me it was The Flaming Lips, and lent me their CD. Unfortunately, 'Do You Realize' has some sort of strange, mind-control effect on me, where I can't listen to any other song on the CD. I listened to it over and over while driving, and finally had to give him the CD back so I could function like a normal person.

If I were a super hero (which I'm not (yet)) that is how you would stop me, by playing that song. Of course, now that I've told you all this, I consider you my arch-enemies.

Now, back on topic. I haven't seen any good concerts in a long time. I wanted to take a road trip from Canada to Minneapolis for a good concert or festival, but there was nothing I wanted to see, with the exception of "The Darkness" but that was sold out and on a bad weekend for me.

Yeah, I dig The Flaming Lips. Honestly, I haven't heard a WHOLE lot other than the new album. I love the new album. The title track is a great one -- Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. That's probably my favorite. Do You Realize is a close competitor though. Great track.

JJ: I've paid $45 to see concerts before. Tool was one, and NIN. I don't remember how much Rage Against the Machine was. I have friends who will absolutely shell thier last dollar to see Dave Matthews. I just can't do it anymore. And if you're trying to take a date? Forget about it. I did see A Perfect Circle though; they opened for NIN. I would pay to see them again, but just haven't. I especially would have liked to see them on this tour while The Mars Volta was opening for them.

I'm pretty sure that I paid $30 for the Lollapalooza with Tool?Korn/Prodigy/Snoop. Thirty bucks...for an all day show...with Tool and Snoop. Now you can't see hardly anybody for less than $40. I used to go see Deftones alot. The most I ever paid for one of their shows was something like $22. I can handle that. The last time they were here, it was $38. Like I said, I'd rather eat. I can't figure out whether this should be attributed to Ticketmaster, Clear Channel, the artists, or a combination of all three. But, it really pisses me off. I used to love going to shows.

I went to Lollapalooza that year too (I think we've made that revelation before...?)-- great show. I'm pretty sure I paid hefty for the ticket though, being that I got it from a scalper the day of. Ah, I had a lot less debt at the time.

Going to concerts used to be one of my favorite things to do. I've seen just about everyone I've wanted to see live. Like you said, I don't know who's to blame. I know artists make the majority of thier money from doing live shows. I really think it's the corporations making it a problem by driving up superfluous costs so artists have to either sacrifice their cut to keep ticet prices down, or make ticket prices high and sacrifice the turnout for shows. I probably won't pay more than 30-35 to see a show now. That just seems rediculous to me.

I now only go to a show if it's one of those "once in a lifetime" or "before I die" scenarios. I just saw Weird Al for the first time, after being a fan for over two decades. That was $40 I don't regret. Nor do I regret the $40 for "A Mighty Wind." It just better be somebody great, or really cheap.

Actually, I like the feel of the cheap places better anyway.

It seems to me that those shows are more like theatre productions than rock concerts though (although i've seen neither, so i could be wrong) and that would make it worth the extra money.

For a rock show though, i just feel like over $25 is alot, and if it's a club show (small venue) $15 is streaching it. There are of course, exceptions to all this.

I'm with you. If Rage ever got back together, I would pay pretty handily for that...and if Layne Staley ever comes back to life, I would have no problem selling my house to pay for Alice in Chains tickets.

Yeah, okay, but then what will you sell when Creed has their reunion tour ?

I am starting to realize the actual economic divide that seperates me from the guy I am dating because of this topic. Where I have always been good financially, I stopped going to things like big concerts years ago. Dropping $50-75 a ticket for just me (or in Chicago you are forced to sit in a stadium so large you will NEVER see the actual person) just got to be too wasteful. He and his friends, on the other hand, do it all the time because they can.

I am not sure he really likes Sting that much, but Sting tickets we have. My little pea brain can't help but think how this is just contributing to the problem by paying these ridiculous prices, but do you think I say no? HELL NO smokey. Mama didn't raise no fool./forums/images/icons/smirk.gif I do protest a little, just to make it look good. However, then I think about what Karma said earlier about trying to take a date to a show. It could easily with tickets, dinner, and drinks top out at $400 without breaking a sweat. That is a freaking rent payment, and you may not even get laid after /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Sports teams are the same damn way...hmmm, wonder why Ticketmaster?

The good part about moving here is the large number of small and reasonably priced clubs. I have seen a lot of people for cheap lately and that rocks, literally.

Sorry to re-hash an old thread but just wanted to express my disappointment re ticket pricing.

So I hear Chris Isaak is coming to town (don't bust my balls on this one - I love him and his music is a major turn on. Plus we get next to no concerts here as it is - I think international musicians believe the only two cities in Australia are Sydney & Melbourne).

Anyway, I checked out the ticket prices and A reserve are $109, B reserve $96 - What a freakin steaming croc of shite. For that price he should sing at my apartment! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

If you throw in an extra $100 he'll do more than sing at your place. Prepare yourself for your very own "wicked Game". /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

The Power Ball has a lot of states participating in it. The Jackpot has gotten to over $200 Million on numerous occasions.
