I'm not going to spoil the movie here, but i say this new Christopher Guest film last night and really enjoyed it. For those not in the know, it's by the same group who made "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show".
This time they set thier satiric sites on the world of Folk music, and while i'll be the first to admit i know absolutely nothing about it - or really even like it, i have got to give this movie props. It had my toes a tappin' and my hands a clappin'. Of course, Guest, Micheal McKean, and Harry Shearer are awesome in their rolls of the washed up trio, the Folksmen, But to me, the real stars of this film are the multifamily "new Main Street Singers" featuring Jane Lynch and John Micheal Higgens as the heads of this sugary "commercial" folkgroup, they play Branson afterall, a more screwed up group of people you couldn't find anywhere. Also in this group is Parker Posey who of course shines anytime she gets near the camera.
The third group in this movie is Mitch and Mickey (Eugene Levy and Catherine O'hara). Levy is great as the overmedicated folkmusic version of Ozzy Osborne, and O'hara is as charming as ever.
If i had to have a complaint about this film, it is that i didn't like how Fred Willard was handled as the manager of the New Main Street Singers. He just seemed off in his scenes, i know that the dialog was mainly improve, but i can't help but think that something more could have been done with him. But really that is a small complaint, overall a very good movie, extremely enjoyable. Not as good as "Best in Show" but still better than almost every comedy film i've seen recently.
