So, I have no good explanation as to why I was watching part of this yesterday, but man, Samuel Jackson's death scene is so awesome.

This group of people are like getting eaten by smart sharks or something, right? So after LL Cool J somehow gets trapped in an oven and the shark turns it on (no, really), he escapes -- LL Cool J ALWAYS escapes -- and makes his way back to the group of survivors.

They're all at each other's throats, scared and unsure how to get out. Well, right when they're all at their lowest, here comes Sam Jackson to give them a Jules-style kick in the ass.

He gives the group a big pep talk. And then, right at the end of his speech, when everyone is now fired back up, this shark dives up and out of the water through a hole, flies sideways through the air and chomps onto Jackson's torso and drags him under.

Another reason TiVo is so great is that you can watch this scene over and over again. You can see that the shark's size changes a few times, once when he grabs Jackson (he's huge, the size of a whale, and Jackson's torso looks small like a kid) then again when he slams the body down (the shark is smaller, Jackson's body is more normal sized and a lot of blood squishes out) and then back to normal shark size as he drags him under.

Awesome. How did I never see this movie before?

Now go back and re-watch Clerks the animated series second episode. Kevin has two jokes in there about that.

Watch that scene in slo-mo. You can actually see the moment the shark's teeth sink into SJ. I remember seeing that the first time, I couldn't believe they let the biggest actor die so easily. There needs to be a film where Bruce Willis gets hit by a car in the first 10 minutes.

I always thought that was the point. Who would ever guess that would happen? Not I.

I really dug the movie just because I got the feeling they created a bunch of characters, then every few pages rolled a die to see who lived and who died. It keeps it unpredictable and interesting. One of the scant few Renny Harlin movies I dug.

I thought that movie was pretty good. By the end of it, I wanted the bitch responsible for the sharks to burn! It was because of her the Sam died. He is one of my favourite actors. I'm glad she got what she deserved! At the beginning i thought, Samuel will save the day. Then during his speech i was like Go Sam. Then he died. Surprised the shit out of me! Renny Harlin can make some decent films. Cliffhanger was sort of ok and Die Hard 2 was decent by Deep Blue Sea was kick arse!

Anything that doesn't have expectations has a chance with Harlin. Die Hard 2 was, for me, clearly the worst, and while a fun action movie, just didn't seem to fit the "everyman hero" style of the other two.

Elm Street 4, in retrospect, was pretty disappointing. The ideas were neat, but I never really bought into the whole idea that we were in nightmares so much as a quirky director's imagination.

Ford Fairlane should have sucked, but somehow it wound up being pretty damn clever. One of my favorite gags in an action film is the villain falling through the piano.

Deep Blue Sea also gave me the added joy of watching girlfriend-beater Michael Rappaport get turned into fish-poop. I can only stand him in movies where he gets hurt.

"Deepest, Bluest, my head is like a shark's fin..."

I made the mistake of whatching the video of the song LL Cool J wrote as tie in to his theatrical performance. The movie was okay, the song was so bad I still have trouble sleeping at night.

Oh yeah....the Adventures of Ford Fairlane kicked ass. I've always like Andrew Dice Clay's comedy routine. Brain Smasher was another Dice movie that I liked. Funny as hell if I remember correctly.
