Bleh, I hate that this was orchestrated as a publicity stunt and worked like a charm. Usually they'd only get a day or two from the hostage, but with the three day deadline they got 3 days of continued coverage with extra to cover the severed head. I guess they learned how to best feed media sensationalism, though, as Stalin said, "a single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic."

there is no doubt this was a tragedy. As soon as they said they would kill him, he was a dead man. It's so senseless and unfortunate, my heart goes out to his family. Now to find these guys and exterminate them like the cockroaches they are.

Obviously it is a war and people die in it. However, cutting off the heads of civilians has never been considered an act of war. It is a criminal act.
