View Full Version : Here's to the Pistons (grudgingly)!

I can admit when my team looks shitty as hell and gets their ass handed to them throughout a entire series. I'm big like that. So as much as I hated to watch this entire series, I respect the hell out of what the Pistons did. They made the Lakers look old, tired and poorly coached. Good for Larry Brown.
I'd also like to thank you for preventing that ingrate Gary Payton from ever getting a ring, too. Would've been nice to see Malone get one, I guess, because at least that guy plays his heart (and his elbows) out, but it's funny to see Payton's plan backfire. Now he'll go resign with some schlumpy team for big bucks and miss the playoffs entirely. Good.
Rick Fox, nice to know y...actually, no, it wasn't. See ya.
Damn. That's the first title for the East in a looong time. Good for them. It was well-earned.
So, Karma, can you see any flames out your window yet?

Nahp, no flames. I'm sure you could light one off my breath though, and it's 8AM. But no. No riots. Just traffic congestion and a rowdy crowd. That's a big step up from last time where "in 1990, seven people were killed, six of them hit by cars, and hundreds were injured by gunfire, stabbings and fighting. Looting and raucous behavior led to dozens of arrests after fans jammed streets to mark Detroit's 92-90 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers for the title."
Plenty of celebration though. Lots of drinking, whooping, singing, platonic man-hugging, and people claiming they knew it all along. However...no plumes rising, and the city looks intact.
Holy shit! What a game. 100 points in the last game of the finals. What could be quipped as a 5 game sweep. 3 consecutive wins at home. Hell, just winning at home. There were some moments in the 3rd period where I thought to myself "you know, it was definitely a mistake not wearing a diaper." There were moments like that in the 4th too, mainly the one where a friend of mine pulled down a 5-foot golf trophy from the bar mantle and ran around pumping it in the air.
He was kicked out.
The parade is tomorrow at 11:00 or so. I'm not sure if I'm going yet. I'm sure Efexeye wishes he could have his apartment back for this week. Psh, I do. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Honestly, I'm kind of sad that it's over. I wish we could have taken it into the weekend. Alas, no. I'm stuck at work on Humpday at 8 trying to keep the potato chips and 5 different kinds of beer from creeping back up.
Man, all this and I thought I only had two words to say. For the record, they were: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!" Erhm, sorry. I'll just let the pics speak now.

I guess Detroit now knows that there is a basketball team in town. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

The last time I could admire the Pistons was when Isaiah Thomas was playing for them. I was hoping they'd pull it off, glad they did.
Sorry 'bout the Lakers sucking so bad, Ryall.

[/ QUOTE ] Not to be overly critical, but I was really disappointed to see Malone in the suit and out of uniform. Obviously he wouldn't play because of the knee and all, but I would have dressed just for support. Ah well.
On a side note, we all understand now that Phil Jackson's masterful Zenlike demeanor has nothing to do with yoga. Have you seen his ladyfriend?
I would like to help her conceive.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah. A lot of it is fair-weather, but I'll take it. We'll have some fun and the city gets good attention. Everyone wins. I didn't exactly watch all season either.
Well, except you know who. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ] He acts like a drunk blonde geek at Tuesday dollar beer night in Texas? Oh wait, The OTHER Zen. Yeah Phil Jackson...that is what you get for being a traitor to the Bulls, right FanGirl? /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
I did get to watch the game last night, and was pretty shocked at the blow out level. It made the finals interesting this year, and my allegences were pulled.
I actually told some dork who thought he was really gallant for buying me a "dollar" beer that I had friends on both sides of this battle so I was cheering for both. Sorry Ryall, the powers of Karma and Efexeye were too strong. Hmmm...Efexeye moves to LA with Denyse, Pistons find a way to overpower the Lakers with some type of black magic. Coincidence, I think not. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Yeah, I called him last night to make sure he was alright, safe, still had a place to stay, and was fully capable of sending back my Necronomicon.

I don't normally cheer for Detroit, since I am a Seattle fan, but I just had to since they were playing the Lakers. I was also glad to see the foul calling that was going on. The refs were pretty fair and accurate throughout the series. I think the only thing that the Lakers had to complain about, was that their fouls were actually getting called. They normally get away with murder, especially in the playoffs.

>> I admit Gary looked like a jackass at times this year, but I honestly believe that it is just because he doesn't do a good job handling the media. I have such good memories of Payton as a Seattle basketball player that I almost found myself rooting for the Lakers to win a championship. Gary is a good guy, he is just not a smart guy in front of the media. He is a good player (He was once a Great player, but that was years ago), who got WORKED over this year. He can blame it on the triangle offense all he wants, but he needs to learn that his mouth is only an asset when his play can back it up.
I will still root for him though wherever he plays. Old habits die hard.

I find it kinda funny, that the only thing that Blazers fans hate more than the Lakers, is Rasheed "the Weed" Wallace. The people out here have such mixed feelings. It makes me giggle at all of them. I figure, fuck it, the Lakers got the crap beaten out of them, Go Pistons! Next year I go back to rooting for whatever is left of a Lakers team.

Anyone else ever notice that win the sport team you support wins you always say, "WE WON!" but when they lose you say, "They lost."
[censored] Lakers. They lost.
