Is anyone here reading Brad Meltzer's Identity Crisis comic from DC? If you're not you should be. Holy Crap what an excruciating first issue. really check it out, This is probably the best comic i have read in a looooooong time.

How about Astonishing X-Men that Joss Whedon is writing? It just came out and he is setting some really fun stuff up. I highly recommend getting on the bandwagon early here. Because of the last page it sparked a three hour conversation with fellow geeks including one who's only seen the movies. If nothing else, pick up the book and read the last page.

I don't read the other x-men series and found this one easy to hop into. Dialogue is great and Cassady's artwork is pretty kick ass.

Sorry, to answer your question, No, but I will check it out the next time I'm at the store.

Very well, i accept you challange. I will for the first time ever read an X-men comic. Now how 'bout that Meltzer book. I mean God Damn it's good.
Although, i have to admit to having a slight "man crush" ever since i met him in Birmingham at a book signing, so that might have tint my glasses some.

See, that's the nice thing about being a fangirl. It is a lot more palitable to see a fangirl gushing/crushing than a fanboy. Zens and I full intend to gush/stalk Craig Thompson ("Blankets") at San Diego after of course the standard Ryall stalking/harassment. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Good, i know Chris will want some time to get some lunch, and he can do that whilst you're off hiding under a Blanket.

what does that mean? i'm not sure.

Normally I'm patient about waiting out arcs on books. Less to keep track of and try and remember month to month, and it's not like I don't have a lot to read anyway. In this case, though, wow. Had to, just to find out who we lost. I know a lot of people might not care if it isn't one of the icons, but this was a character I legitimately liked. When a comic book death actually hits you, that's impressive. This will wind up being one of the great minis IMHO.

And Astonishing? Joss rocks (duh).

Go buy Craig Thompson's "Blankets" right now. Best graphic novel. He is going to walk away with an Eisner for sure. It's looks intimidating because it's thick, but it's a fast read. I made Zens buy it and she loved it. I actually got two women at work reading comics now because I made them read that book. It is amazing.

edited because I realized my english speaking wasn't

I wanna read Identity Crisis, and I really wanna read Astonishing X-Men, but, I can't find a copy of either anywhere. RRRRRRRR!
It's funny to me, I live in the same town as Kurt Busiek, Bendis, Shannon Wheeler, and it is the home of Dark Horse and Oni Comics, as well as much more, but I can't find a decent comic shop. Pisses me off. I used to have a great one, but it closed when the rent went up. The landlord wanted the kitchen supply store to expand and went up 300% on their rent. Now I have to look at all the Borders and Barnes and Nobles like a twelve-year-old that has never grown past Superman comics, the shame of it all.
*puts bag over head*
I shall never show my face in public again.

At any given con, I pick something up from the Top Shelp booth. I remembered Ryall liking it when they sent the preview, so I had my copy nearly right out of the gate. Damn good stuff. Have you read Box Office Poison?

I picked it up, but haven't read it yet. I'm getting caught up on Fables right now. Just hit the third trade. I highly recommend. The second trade is better than the first. I can't wait to check out the third.

Have you read "Three Fingers"?

Fables is another great book. I don't know how you guys just wait on the trades, i've got to get that one every month.

As far as the death in Identity Crisis goes, I was hit hard by it. It wasn't a surprise who got it, i had that figured out by page 3 i think, it was the way it was written, just an unbelieveably sad, gutwrenching story. I'm not going to tell you who, although i suppose it's all over the internet by now (and i imagine there are a lot of people who are pissed off), but damn did it hit me hard. What an emotional story.

Once I get caught up on the trades, I'll be doing the monthly on fables. Which reminds me I need to catch up on "Y: the last man" as well.

Oh and I totally hear you on a bad comic book store, it took me forever to find a good one. Now I have one of the best ones *cough* until stash opens here *cough*.

Haven't read 3 Fingers, but my friend plans on loaning it to me once I'm caught up on some stuff.

Fables and Y are amazing. Got in on the ground floor on those, and it is a true monthly fix. Speaking of Vertigo, I must shout my highest praises to Human Target and Losers. Maybe not for everyone, but I make sure to give myself extra time to read them so I can really pore over them.

Box Office Poison ruuuuuuuules. One of my favorite books ever.

I love to see the comics talk on this board.

Yeah? I skipped it because I'm never a big fan of the books built around someone getting waxed. Just seems like a lame way to start a book, rather than building to someone's death. And then when I heard who it was, it seemed even odder (and spoils any good antics in future Giffen/DeMatteis JLAs). But Tipton has been trying to talk me into checking it out, so I probably will.

As for Astonishing X-Men, you may not get as much out of it if you've never read an X-Men book before, but for long-time fans, it's awesome. Whedon nails the characters and the art is phenomenal.

>after of course the standard Ryall stalking/harassment.

It's only harrassment if the harrassee isn't into it...and I, of course, am.

Craig Thompson might be traumatized by it, though--he's a pretty sensitive, shy guy. Then again, so am I.

I've only read the trade of Losers and liked it--it was enough for me to get Diggle's Swamp Thing, which has been really solid so far.

I agree with you on Human Target--I love that book. I'm surprisingly into H.E.R.O., too. Never thought I would be, but Will Pfeiffer's solid (even if he did drown my soon-to-be new home in Aquaman).

I've only read the Phoenix saga and seen the movies, but I fell right into it with no problem. I'm sure I'm not getting all the jokes, but still.

I hear you Chris about the Death as a story angle thing, (i'm still not really over Ice's Death in the old Justice League book) and under another writers hand i would be worried but i have to tell you, this is one great book. I don't come on here and "hype" things very much.
As far as Giffin's upcoming mini, i understand that it is not in continuity. Probably because of this Mini, but whatever....
