View Full Version : Ronald Reagan R.I.P. 1911-2004
One of the greatest Presidents we've ever had has passed away today.
He, like all of us here on this planet, was not perfect.
But, He did His best to do some good on this rock We call home. That Man really did bring about some great things.
Reagan was a straight shooter. You always knew where He stood on the issues. No ping-ponging on anything. No sir.
Best of all, He did'nt take any shit from anyone or any country.
I am going to miss Him.
Godspeed Mr. President.

We were on the expressway this afternoon, and there are these 4 HUGE and beautiful flags that fly by my house. Two for the U.S. and two for Texas. All were half mast. Even though I had not heard the news yet, I knew why.
At that moment we turned on the radio. After a few minutes my friends and I commented that losing Reagan is closing a chapter on a part of our childhood. The first president we remember was Reagan, and he stood for what most of us still think as "presidential".
I also think of Nancy, and how truly difficult her struggle has been the last years. She deserves incredible respect for keeping the honor of her husband and herself alive in the face of a horrible disease. She was the picture of what it means to be a first lady, and never aired her dirty laundry to the world.
I will admit to feeling more than a bit wistful today.

He was a great president during hard times. He will be well remembered by many. I am actually happy that he has died as the man, and his family, has suffered enough with this sickness.

From President Reagan's 1992 Republican Convention Speech:
</font><blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr />
My fellow citizens -- those of you here in this hall and those of you at home -- I want you to know that I have always had the highest respect for you, for your common sense and intelligence and for your decency. I have always believed in you and in what you could accomplish for yourselves and for others.
And whatever else history may say about me when I'm gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears, to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty's lamp guiding your steps and opportunity's arm steadying your way.
My fondest hope for each one of you -- and especially for the young people here -- is that you will love your country, not for her power or wealth, but for her selflessness and her idealism. May each of you have the heart to conceive, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute works that will make the world a little better for your having been here.
May all of you as Americans never forget your heroic origins, never fail to seek divine guidance, and never lose your natural, God-given optimism.
And finally, my fellow Americans, may every dawn be a great new beginning for America and every evening bring us closer to that shining city upon a hill.

He was truly a great president. His resolve and determination were matched only by his humor.
While death is always sad, I'm glad to know that his, as well as his family's, suffering is over. I've seen first hand what a hellish ordeal Alzheimer's can be.
Rest in Peace Mr. President.

I know you West Coast peeps probably aren't, but is anybody going to DC this week? I get off Friday, 'cause I'm a fed. employee, and my family wants to make the trek. Just wondering...

Probably one of the most scandal free Presidents of recent times that I can think of. For that he earns my respect. I think even we Brits will miss him in an 'end of an era' way.
I want to go up to D.C. to pay My respects, but I don't think My company(insurance) is going to close for the day. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif
