Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban kicked ass compared to the other movies. Alfonso Cuaron did a much better job directing this film than Chris Columbus. Any other thoughts or opinions.........

My thought and opinion is that Harry Potter sucks, and that you haven't posted on here for months. Welcome back . . . . even though I see you every other day.

I was going to see it on Friday but then had to do other things so I will probably see it on Tuesday. I have heard good things.

I can't believe I agree with someone who calls himself assclown, but I do--the third Potter is easily the best of the three.

I’m going to see it tonight, based on your review. Mr. Wells’ review was somewhat less flattering than yours, but, inexplicable distaste for a certain cartoon-who-should-not-be-named aside, your tastes seem fairly sympathetic to mine. Plus, my wife wants to see it. So maybe your review wasn’t as influential a factor as I portrayed, but if I don’t like the film then you can expect an angry email about betrayal of trust, deception, etc. You know, like those self-righteous contest losers demanding satisfaction for your gross oversight of their would-be winning submissions. Good luck.

Well, why does Harry Potter suck?

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good, although it kind of dragged in some places. The Hippogriff is the best CGI I have seen in ages. That thing blew me away.

I hate to say it (as I was a huge fan of his column for a long time) but Wells has really started to remind me of Ebert.

What's your beef with Ebert? His AOTC review?

Oh yeah... I base my dislike for Ebert on one review. You figured me out.

I was kidding. Seriously, though, what do you dislike about Ebert? (And, by extension, what qualities of Ebert do you feel Wells is emulating?)

You're off the hook, buddy; I liked it. I guess the email will have to wait for your review of the Family Guy full-length animated feature.

I had written this long winded response detailing my problems with Ebert and Wells but in the end I erased it. Why? Sometimes it is better to not comment on the plastic covered furniture in a home where you are a guest.

Personally, I'm beginning to think Wells is simply trying to have an opinion to the contrary. I enjoy reading his reviews because of how well written and informative they are, though I rarely agree with his opinions. Neither does the consensus, on average.
I'll still read all his columns, but I just know how my opinions will align with his at the end of the day.

I saw POA Thursday night so I was a little tired through out the movie, but otherwise I'd certainly say its the meatiest of the three. I still don't particularly enjoy the first Harry Potter flick, I thought the second was good entertainment, but this last installment had this much more serious tone without losing the charm of the HP universe. I don't think it's really darker than any of the other movies (the darkest moment in the series was probably the bloody, beaten Harry Potter at the end of Chamber).
What really makes this movie are the kids. They're such good actors now, each of the leading 3 completely own and understand their respective characters. I don't care how old the kids get now, they should do all 7 movies, because no one can emulate the great work they've accomplished.
To keep this from running too long, I should go back to my orignal statement, on this being the 'meatiest' of the 3. A suprising number of scenes involve Harry discussing his feelings with peers and professors, and these dialogue driven moments really flesh out Harry as, despite the magic, a real person who faces real problems. His character is growing up in a manner that I think everyone can relate to, and this approach to adolesence is why I think these books and movies are great for kids.

I liked it, but didn't love it. I was a huge fan of the book. I thought that it needed about three sentences that would have made it better. One explaining why Lupin knew what the map was, why a stag as his protector and the fact that Trelawny despite her horrible predictions was has been right on two occasions.
I didn't dig the bridge or them moving the womping willow and Hagrid's place from the first two movies. But the hippogriff was amazing and the bogard scene was great. I liked it, I just didn't love it.

Yeah, the way they simply moved both of those locations was obvious even to the most casual fan. Just because the tree hid a tunnel to the Shreiking House (which wasn't visible in the first two films) was no reason to move it. It wouldn't affect the visual continuity of the movies any worse than moving the whole damn tree.

I like it but, call it childishness if you want, I miss the magic Chris Columbus put in the first movies. I miss Richard Harris as Dumbeldor too, but Gary Oldman do a hell of a good job in Sirius' character. Can't wait to see the fourth... /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I loved this movie. I didn't find anything to dislike about it. Bravo!
I saw it last Saturday and was much impressed. I really enjoyed the first two (the first more than the second) But this one was by far the best of the three. Hopefully they keep up the progression and don't plateau.
