Are there any Andy Kaufman fans out there that know about this? (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040519/234/726q1.html) Or this? (http://andykaufmanreturns.blogspot.com/)
I've been looking around and nobody's talking about it, so my first reaction is to call bullshit. Then, I'm wondering if nobody is reacting because we're all calling bullshit.
I will sing the Mighty Mouse theme while you research and respond.

Howy Cow. My wife was just mentioning the possibility of this about a week ago. It has my attention if not my belief, yet.

I find it hard to believe. Very hard to believe.
Uh, if he did return, he would be sued because he profited from faking his death.

Yeah, I'm very, very skeptical.

It's hard to imagine him writing that blog. I'm not sure if I'm pissed off by this (presumed) hoax or not. I wonder who's behind this? (Probably misguided fans.)

Sounds like a really good scheme, there was a woman who was absolutely convincing when she claimed to be Anastasia, the rumored sole survivor of the slaughter of the Russian monarchy, but was debunked by DNA testing. Some people can become so enveloped in a role they even forget who they really are. This just sounds like a get rich quick scheme, though. Even if it's the real deal, it only serves to entirely tarnish his memory, nothing to get excited about.

Not to lend creedence to a hoax... But it does seem like the kind of thing Andy Kaufman would do - like the kind of thing that would make him laugh, doesn't it ?

Could be. I'm definitely not buying into it. I'll wait until some highly official and credible news source like E! News Daily confirms it.
Of course if they DO confirm it, you realize that I believed it in my heart all along and will gladly, tearfully say so on TV.

A friend pointed out that this is a press release and not news. Makes sense why they would post it and it's something I didn't even notice.
It's from the same company who released the press statement:
"Ambassador From Mars Receives 181,634 Spam Emails - Says AmbassadorEdward Husmaphilpi, Age 432.7 years, returns home to Mars having failedto get a meeting with the President. "All I got was 181,634 spam-emailsfrom a Mr Edwin FFenfenbacker telling me that there had been a security breach at my bank and asking me to send him my credit card and domainname details."

I would call Bullshit but the line has been busy for hours.

Right, exactly. Plus, I went to the site the press release supposedly came from and couldn't find this anywhere.
I've seen this type of thing before, and it turns out to be someone creating a page using a replicate of the source code for an official page.....recreating all the links and everything. That's what I'm assuming this is at the moment.

If true it would be damn funny.
Wow!
If true, that is some funny, funny stuff.
It's totally befitting of Kaufman to pull a prank that would be the king of all pranks! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
I really do hope He's alive.
I hope it's true, it would be the ultimate practical joke.

<font color="purple">My mom just told me that he wrote in his will that the greatest achievement he could get was to die and come back 20 years after his death. If it is true, I think it is damn funny.</font color>

I doubt it too, surely something like it would have been all over the news. But if it is, then he;s pulled the mother of all practical jokes.

Elvis isn't Dead, don't you read the Weekly World News? Saying that is like saying that the NCAA is not a corrupt institution.

I was and am a huge fan of Andy, always have been.
Although I would not put it past him, it's hard to say that there is a chance this is Andy.
IF the dna and fingerprint tests are real, then this is true. Now all we can hope for is a Taxi reunion!

And this... </font><blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr />
Most important, if the Andy Kaufman I remember — the brilliant, unpredictable, erratic, and unique comic genius — had finally emerged from hiding twenty years after faking his own death, I have no doubts that he'd find a much more imaginative way of revealing his return than a free press release and a rather ordinary blog.
[/ QUOTE ] pretty much says what I was feeling most of all. If he would admit to it being a publicity stunt and something that would hammer home the idea he was the greatest prankster comic ever, wouldn't he do something involving more publicity and in an over-the-top, shocking way? Ah well.
Snopes is reliable and I totally believe this, but they still didn't list any facts that directly debunk the situation.
