***Minor spoilers, but since you've read the book, they don't count***
It's one a those that you go to see purely for how it was executed, as with all crossover flicks. I think it's well worth a view, and I like how I picked up on some things from the movie I kinda maybe slept through or missed from the book.
I especially thought it was interesting that the gods were excluded from any real roles in the movie, it was hard to not notice. Guess it woulda been cheesy to try to include them in the movie though. Overall, I think the calls made by the producer were for the best. I can't afford to go see it again, but I must say I think it was a nice treatment of the story, and the acting was good.
One thing that keeps bothering me about these epics is the constant "voices" that make up the the background noise. It gets annoying after a while. Notice during the sack of Troy--you don't hear what's going on, only "Aaahhh, aahhhh", over, and over, and over. That was my only pet peeve.
I especially liked the casting for Ajax and Hektor! It's good--go see it /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

It wasn't bad , the action was cool the acting was sufficient. I didn't pay any attention to the hype or promos so I was surprised to see so many familiar faces. Especailly Saffron Burrows ( #8 on the ole top ten list )
*****************Possible Spoilers***********************
Knowing some amount of greek mythology means you know that none of those stories have happy endings. I suppose what struck me most, and what I walked out of the theatre feeling, was the futility of war and anger at foolhardy minds that find reasons to justify it. Oh, and they shoulda burned that fuggin horse.
************************End spoilers**********************
Wingman gives this movie a 7.2 out of ten.
I am interested to see what Wolfgang will do with "EndersGame".

Is somebody doing "Ender's Game"? A wonderful book, but I can't imagine the advertising campaign not giving away the ending.

whats with the eye rolling?
From what I've read and been taught the whole Troy thing was most likely 3-4 battles in the same Area within a generation or two. But through the power of story telling these battles became one, and then they became one big Epic Battle. And most likely the reasons for the battles had nothing to do with a Lady name Troy.
Its kinda cool if you think about how distorted the story became, It would be like WWII ,Vietnam and the Gulf War I all rolled up into one. So hundereds of years from now you would hear about how Hitler invaded Vietnam with help from Iraq and they formed the Axis of Evil. And how the Mighty AMerican FOrces invaded on D-Day and it all ended when we snuck an A-Bomb into Germany in a Wooden Volkswagon.

I loved that book! Not always an Orson Scott Card fan, but sometimes he really hits the spot. Have you read "Ender's Shadow" or any of the others in that series? I was told they suck; but I'll gladly accept a second opinion.

"Ender's Game" really is one of my favorite sci-fi novels. I own "Speaker for the Dead" (the first sequel), but I haven't read it, yet.
My guess is that the other books differ greatly in tone and pacing than the first. This may be a good thing, as there's really no way you could repeat the first book, without being, well, repetitious. This may also explain why some people are disappointed with the sequels. That, or they may just suck.

I thought Ender's Shadow was the best of the sequels to Ender's Game. The most satisfying anyway.

hmm its barely Fresh on rotten tomatoes. All I want to know is if the film is gory.

The day I start listening to critics is a sad day indeed. I don't understand critics who didn't like this movie- I thought it was pretty well done, even if the treatment of the source material isn't 100 percent accurate.
And actually, no, it isn't that gory- in fact, some of the blood effects in the massive battle scenes seemed pasted in, to me- as if they didn't think it was gory enough, so they painted some red in.

Yeah, If its not gory, that cool. If you go in and add blood cause you dont think its gory enough, thats just going to ruin the movie. It sounds like Troy is an ok movie, not great, just ok.

Like it just fine... For once, they didn't spoil the story, except maybe for the end, cause Paris and Briseis are supposed to die long before the end of Troy, but who cares... I also regret we don't have more of Ulysse, and Enee, and they forget Cassandra (Paris's twin).
But Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana and even Brad Pitt make a job of it...
BTW, Girls, this is a flick for u, and forget about bring your boyfriend, no use... /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I got to see Troy last night and.....I loved it! Seriously, has there ever been or will there ever be a more perfect specimen of man than Brad Pitt. I had to have a cold shower when I got home! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif I've never read the book and have only a general knowledge of the history (dudes in giant horse - gotit!) but I was blown away by the flick.
And even though some fuck tards (who I swear follow us to every movie!) tried yet again to spoil our movie experience.. (One chick in front of us decided to bathe in flyspray and some gonads behind us felt like doing a running commentary/translation) I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved it too. I think it is one of those movies that is much more difficult to watch the first time, than a second. There is a lot going on and one might get a little bored if not interested in all the characters, but I was hooked throughout.
I thought that Pitt was awesome. I had read somewhere that he was the lowpoint of the movie.... that person needs to stop the crack pipe. This is a fantastic movie, better than GLADIATOR. I can't wait to see it again.

Oh and there is no happy ending.... I was afraid that they would try and put a happy face on this story but there is nothing but love, pain, death, greed, and a sense of loss.
