Cheers, the best sitcom ever. And old Taxi re-runs. And My Two Dads, of course. And does Soap still count or was that the late '70s? Loved that as a kid.

Matthew

Agreed!

Cheers imo is #1 sitcom of all time hands down barr none!

Taxi I like, Family Ties, Alf was ok.

There are soo many good ones, Fresh Prince, (or was that early 90s, those years go by in a blur. )

Chris, I think soap counts, it ran into the 80s I believe.

I was a Soap fiend. They used to replay it on Comedy Central or E! (I can't remember which) some years ago. Genius!

Family Ties
Cheers
Silver Spoons
Diff'rent Strokes
The Facts of Life

I don't know why, but so many of the more adult themed sitcoms of the 80's depressed me, Cheers included.

The only real sitcom in the 80's was the show with a theme song so cool, it was on the charts for like 10 weeks, plus it launched the career of a little know actor named William Katt( House anyone??)For those deprived souls out there with an empty childhood, Greatest American Hero is a show about a Special-Ed teacher who gets visited by aliens. They give this teach the "Suit of Unearthly Powers" which grant the wearer super strength, flight, invisibilty, flames, telekenesis, vision of events without being there, protection from bullets and fire. Theres also a bunch of other powers but heres the catch. Our special ed friend lost the manual to the suit. What do you get when you cross a power suit, A special ed teacher, and a lost manual. Ill tell you what you get, one hour of pure genius. If you dont know the show, You definately know the song:

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

Or how about the very famous George Costanza version

Believe it or not, George isnt at home
Please leave a message at the beep
I must be out or Id pick up the phone
Where could I be??
Believe it or not Im not home.

Greatest American Hero?... More Like Greatest American Sitcom!

Dude, don't call kids in Special Ed classes "tards".

You show your ignorance and immaturity when you do.

KingBison
04-22-2004, 11:02 AM
I guess making fun of special ed is a no no on the shoot. Funny what you can and cant make fun of on this site. Ill edit my post. I apologize to the people i have insulted.

Efexeye
04-22-2004, 11:06 AM
I just take it raw because I'm a teacher, and I have to tell kids constantly how to behave towards the Special Ed students. I guess I just feel that an adult (or semiadult) should know better. Calling a kid a 'tard or a retard because they are retarded is no different than calling someone by a racial epithet.

While we're on the topic, saying something is "gay" or calling someone a "[censored]" is just as bad as any racial slur, yet it's considered okay and funny. I know when you say something is gay it doesn't mean that it is homosexual, but it's still not very considerate towards homosexuals.

KingBison

Was that last part directed towards me or my post?? Not sure.

I totally understand where your coming from. But there are so many grays areas when it comes to what you can and cant make fun when it comes to social or racial groups. Example, its ok to say to your friend "Dude you ride the short bus to school" but I cant say tard in my post. Weird.

Threadkiller
04-22-2004, 11:17 AM
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Saying something to your friend in private is not the same thing as saying it on a public message board.

Your friends know you and know what you mean when you say it. On a public message board you run the risk of being misunderstood and coming across as a total ass.

You might say that to your friend. But would you say it to him loudly on a crowded subway? In front of your old sunday school teacher?

Holy cow! I remember Greatest American Hero, and I remember watching it all the time. Sadly, the fact that I watched it and knowing the song are my only memories of it. I also recall that I used to watch Perry Mason movies with my mom simply because they had the Greatest American Hero in them.

Have I mentioned that I have George's song (with Jeff substituted for George) as my voice mail message?

KingBison
04-22-2004, 01:54 PM
Thats awesome. Thats funny you have that as your voice mail. I had it on my answering machine for a while but it got old. But none the less its a classic episode.

I couldn't find the name of the pinball machine from Silver Spoons on Google. However, I did find that he had Asteroids Deluxe and Tempest in addition to Gorf. Tempest was a badass game.

The show of which you speak was called:

Too Close For Comfort

starring none other than JM J. Bullock and Ted Knight (from Caddyshack fame).

I had to resort to a friend to find the answer though.

Matthew

Tempest was a kewl game! So was the original Star wars, I remember sitting in that fake cockpit for hours!

Man, I just have to say that Ted Knight is not famous for Caddyshack. He was already famous when he made caddyshack. What made him famous was a little show in the 60's

I watched plenty of them then. But there's one I just can't figure the name to or the very plot to. The only thing I can remember about it is that it was about an old red-headed lady that brought up 4 girls. Two of them were very hot, with one of them two having blonde hair and hazel eyes, the 2nd one having brunett hair and green eyes. The third girl was very fat and looked like a pig child with long hair and chinese looking eyes, while the 4th girl was short and black. Can anybody think the name to this 80's show and maybe post a pic or two of the group. I just can't remember the 80's anymore. Guess it's because I watch too much Malcolm in the middle and play my X-Box too much.

And since we're giving out points for rare pics, extra points to the person who can post a screen-cap of George Clooney shagging all 4 girls.

Extra-extra points if Mrs. Garrett is in there too.

Now I remember a little bit more. It was called The Facts of Life. The only thing is I couldn't stand the theme song to it so I closed my ears and turned my head away from the TV set. Isn't the green eyed brunette haired girl with a ponytail now a country singer of some sort that took some time out to vacation up in switzerland? I think her real name is Shania something. She's married to an ugly looking dude named Mudd Lange, I think. I knew she would sing After that show ended in 1988.

I've even fought the one whose screen name was "Bandit Reynolds Style", "Mayor McCheese", "Bluntman and Chronic", and "Affleckie". I know your organization of friends, Threadkiller!
