View Full Version : Barry's Idol

For those of you who were skeptical about Barry Manilow being one of the best songwriters of all time, take a look at what he did with the final 7 on Idol.
This was a fantastic night for all of the singers, even John Stevens, whom I was never a fan of, almost did a good job!
Mannilow took these people, and made them be their best. The arrangements of these songs that they did were fantastic!
... I wonder what would happen to these guys if these singers spent a week with Jimmy Page...

They would rock.
I don't mean that as 'they would be awesome' I mean that as, they would ROCK . . . I would laugh my ass off if one of the contestants started singing the Immigrant Song. Reminds me of School of Rock. I love that movie. Jack Black kicks ass.

Alright where do I begin....
Sadly, I had to work at the video store, so I couldn't experience this live, but thanks to the DVR I had the chance to fast forward through the commercials and get to the Manilow action!
Manilow is awesome. I was really annoyed with the fact that some of these contestants were trying to hard to actually made the public get the idea that they actually know who Manilow is (including Jasmine and Diana), and the 'Barry looks like Clay' jokes were dumb and overly used. Come on, this is the man and in my opinion, I'd do Manilow then Aiken.
Ok, now to the performances:
Diana: Ok, When did Mighty Mouse enter the competition. I didn't like her performance last week, she sounds like she is 1 month old baby crying for a bottle of milk. God, it was disturbing to hear that beautiful song with cotton balls pressed in my ears.
George: Ok, he was good. A little pitchy, bad notes, but Manilow isn't his thing and you could tell. But, I did like the fact that after a bad performance, he still had a nice on his face. He is my fav. so far. Totally a great guy.
Jennifer: Ok, I can't stand the girl, but she did ok this week. I didn't think that it was the song for her, but hey, what do I know compared to 'the man?' I just don't like the fact that she is overly 'cocky' when it comes to her performances, she is not Whitney nor LaToya for that matter. I think she will be leaving the show shortly, not due to her performances, but due to her attitude. We ain't needing no divas in American Idol, got it!?
Jasmine: One of my favs, but she wont go far. Liked the song, liked her. I love her outfit.
LaToya: Wowzahs! She rocked the house! I loved her performance. She was by far my favorite for the night and for this year. She is just amazing. I will be putting money on her! Any takers?
John: Umm....no.
Fantasia: My second pick to win this years' competition now since I heard this kick ass version of that classic. I actually think she is one that gets better and better every week.
Bottom three: John, Jasmine, Diana with John going home. Thanks for ruining my favorite Manilow song [censored].
This version of American Idol was by far my favorite night of music. Not because of Manilow, but I felt all seven singers belonged there, with the exception of John Stevens.
Sporting my Manilow Live t-shirt, I will now conclude this by saying, I told you Manilow rocked!

How the hell are they going to have a Manilow night without any "At the Copa"? I at least expected that the whole gang would sing it, if not somebody doing it as their song. Bastards.

Manilow is performing on the results show tonight. Maybe the producers will make up sit through a Manilow mix, down really bad, and Copa will be featured.

Allright, WTF happened last night ?
Jennifer did great Thursday, and John for the last 3 weeks did terrible, absolutely dreadful!
How in the hell is this red-headed nitwit still here ?

I like it. I think its great people are picking a shit-head for an idol. It actually quite funny that this is happening. Im happy jennifer is gone. I dont like her very much.

I didn't get a chance to watch it last night, but I am GLAD Jennifer is gone. I had a lot of non-happy thoughts for the girl. One article online described her face movements like 'an NFL linebacker giving signals.' Classic. Glad she is gone, her voice was annoying and lets just hope John gets the boot next week.

If John wins, that would probably spell the end of amerian Idol. LOL Or at least the end of complete audience control. Lots of people stand to lose, tons of money if that shmuck wins.

Keep in mind this is a singing competition, not a competition on looks. Although Jennifer was rocky in the beginning, the last 4 or 5 weeks she did a great job. Her voice was not annoying at all. Fantasia has also done a wonderful job, some of her singing actually brought a tear to my eye, yet she was in the bottom 3.
I can't believe this crap, I liked John when he was a crooner, but lately he just sucks. He is tone deaf, constantly sings flat, and is boring to listen to, yet week in and out he still somehow moves on.

To be honest, it is a looks contest hands down. Despite the fact that they can all sing, looks have a HUGE fact in the deciding factor of the show. John Peter Lewis' voice was horrid, yet he continued because he was oh, so cute. Much can be say for a lot of people including Jasmine.
Did you hear that Carmen (the Lauren Hill-type) was killed in a car accident this past week. How sad.

Yeah, but we are shallow Americans. Our main goal is to vote up the good-looking ones. Then, when their singing careers don't pan out they'll resort to posing for Playboy or appearing on car commercials. Either way, we'll be entertained.

I'd just like to point out that I don't watch this or any other shows of this ilk, only one I did watch was eason 3 of big brother because there was always some quality childish and very entertaining arguments. But even so watch or not you always know the winners because te media shoves them up your nose.

Well, you have no right to talk. You aren't the thinest person in the world.
Btw Matthew, remember how I said that Jennifer would get kicked off for your 'diva-'ness? Well, I have no doubt that is exactly what happened. She was on the morning news this morning, throwing her divaness around saying she deserves to be up there and crying. She is a bitch. She should have been kicked off no matter what.
Matthew

What did I say about her "diva" ness ?
I in no means thought she was a diva.
