While reading the post about what everyone is doing this summer, I noticed that several of you, including myself plan on doing some golfing. Well, I just figured I'd start a post about golf. Anything about golf. Clubs, scores, complaints, etc. Well, I'll start it off.

I've been on my highschool golf team for 2 years now, next year will be the 3rd. Our school never had a girls golf team, but as soon as I signed up other girls started signing up, also. We only had 3 the first year, but we had 4 last year, enough for a team. My average score on 9 holes is around 54 of 55. I'm not too great, because I don't have much power, but that shall change this year because . . . I GOT A NEW DRIVER!

My grandpa had an $150 driver, but he didn't like it, so he gave it to me for Christmas(thank god my grandpa is very very short, about the same height as me). It's a Fire-forged Snake-eyes. If any of you know what that is. I've hit a few balls with it out of my back yard. I live right next to a golf course. I used that club and I drove it almost twice as far as I did with my old driver.

Sorry for the length of this, just wanted to get it all in. Heh heh.

That's pretty cool Asteban.
From what I hear, It turns out there's some great courses here in Florida. I have family that plays all the time. I however, have never played a game. I really don't know much about it, but am thinking about giving it a try.
At the very least, I'm going to go and practice at some of the local driving ranges.
Awwwww yeah, Happy Gilmore style!
Got any golf sites I should check out? /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Nah, I really don't read up about golf, I hate watching golf, but I love playing. The golf course I live next to was rated I think 4th best in Illinois. Which is kind of strange for being in a small town.

I love golf. Thats the way it is though you either love it or you hate it. Sadly, I haven't played in a few months. I need to get back out there. All I can say is that your worst day on the golf course is going to be better than you best day at work...(there are exeptions to every rule though). One of the best things about this game is the only person you can beat is yourself.
Also, yeah , Flordia has some of the prettiest courses around.

Bt the way, anyone watch the Masters.... Man was I happy for Phil...

I've only played golf three times in my life- three times my dad took me to play golf and after the third time he swore he'd never take me again...
The first time out I shot a one-twenty something-or-another on eighteen holes. My dad smiled and patted me on the back and said "Not bad, son. Let's go grab a beer and a steak."
The second time out, I shot a nintey-eight for 18 holes. My dad kind of halfway smiled and said "That's pretty good- I think the wind was with us most of the way, really helped out those drives. Let's go get a Coke."
The third and last time, I shot an 82. My dad said "Son, it took me five years to get down under 90 and you hit an 82 your third time... I hope you're not too tired because your ass is walking home."

That was 15 years ago. I haven't picked up a club since.

I love to play golf- it's the perfect way to get exercise and fresh air, whether you walk nine or ride 18. Obviously, the walking 9 is better exercise, but it's enjoyable either way...

I've been using the same Sears golf clubs I've had since 1994- bought 'em in college with my first credit card. I still to this day have never hit the driver on the course- it's the only fiberglass shaft in the bag, and I'm just afraid to duff with it. I use it on the range for fun, but I can't get used to it enough to use it on the course.

Just talking about it has me wistful for 7 AM golf, with the dew still on the grass and the sun barely up...just wish it wasn't so hard on the environment, is all.

Actually got to play a little golf Saturday before Easter.
If you ever get the chance, play the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama. Excellent courses. The best is Grand National in Opelika (near Auburn). I hadn't played in quite some time and was very impressed with my play.
I switched to the Natural Golf method, and I must say it works. Every drive was piped down the center...except for a couple I got lazy on. I pulled most short irons left, but all in all it was an enjoyable, non-frustrating day of golf.
I want a new driver. Mine is a Titleist 975D with a Proforce 65 shaft, and the face just isn't as hot as the current crop. My cousin had a new Big Bertha, and I hit it 20 yards further than mine, with a nice high launch angle.
I want a TaylorMade 580. I'm also thinking about replacing my long irons with fairway metals.
God I love golf. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I got out on Saturday for the first time this year. I was absolutely awful. I shot 21 over par on 9 holes. Not good. It was probably the worst I have ever played. Although me and my buddies talk a competetive game, none of us are very good. But it is just great to get outside for a couple of hours. When I go to that wedding in Oregon next month, we are playing at a country club. It will be my first time being on a really fancy course. I hope to embarass the guys that I'm playing with as they are not my usual golf buddies, and I don't think any of them "gotz da skillz".

I played on a really fancy course when my buddy Eric got married- the wedding party was 4 foursomes, and we played a scramble. I like that format- you don't have to worry about hitting every shot perfectly, and as long as they use a couple of your shots, it's fun.

That's a funny story, acutally- 2 days before the wedding those horrible blackouts hit here in Detroit, and there was supposed to be a barbecue the night before the wedding, but the grocery stores were closed because of no power. The country club was open, and they had all this meat, hotdogs, lobsters and stuff, so we bought it- it worked out really well, cause they would have lost it all anyway.

Man, we played golf 5 days in a row that week- he took off work the week before the nuptials, and I only work for 3 hours a day in summer, so we tore it up. 5 days, 5 courses. Fun stuff.

That sounds awesome. We've only got one free, full day, in Oregon, Friday, so that's the only chance we have to go golfing. And Thursday night is guys night out, so we are all going to be mad hung over, possibly even still drunk. Should be great.

The good thing about being on the golf team, is you play on a lot of courses. Only one of them was nicer than the golf course I live next to though.

It was in Quincy, IL. It's a private golf course, not a country club though. It was exhausting. It was a pretty difficult course, but for some reason I ended up shooting my best game of the season the day before regionals when our team (only 3 people at that time) took a practice round. It would have been even better, but there is one hole that is just a bitch, and I shot a 10 on that hole, and still had a better score than I had shot all year. I think I shot a 52 that day(on 9 obviously). I wish I had the driver I have now, last year. I predict that it will take a stroke off every hole I use it on, considering I can hit the ball well enough with other clubs. I don't have a problem with hitting straight, its the one thing I CAN do.

If I would have hit the ball better on that one hole I probably would have shot a 45, making it the best game of my life, haha. I'm not that wonderful of a player, but last year I didn't work very hard. This year, I'm working harder.

Our teams first year player went to sectionals, she shot a 98 at regionals. I shot 113, and the other player shot a horrible 135. My goal this year is to play more golf with the sectional player(oh wait, you all know assclown, shes an awesome golfer). Anyway, I'm gonna play golf with assclown and we're gonna go to sectionals. I'm shooting high this year! Or should I say low . . . (damn I'm a loser, haha).

You speak the truth regarding the driver. I always chuckle when I hear golf pros on TV talking about what a huge part of your score revolves around short game and putting. It does, but only once you're able to master the full shots.
Example: 500 yard par 5-
Pro hits drive 290 and a 4 iron 210 into a greenside bunker. Blasts out to 8 feet, misses the birdie putt and makes par. Short game makes up 60% of the shots on that hole.
The average duffer probably scores an eight, but four or five of the shots are full shots (tops, slices, etc.).

I already have a good short game, well . . . decent. My driving is terrible, with my old driver I hit the ball 150-180. Around there. With this new driver, wow, such an improvment. I still hit it straight, and now I hit it far. Maybe too far /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif I hope I get to use it a lot. Our course has quite a few short holes that I won't be able to use it on.

I hit a perfect drive the other day, but alas, it was on a dogleg right, and wound up on a little knoll in the rough. I can't ever remember hitting a drive through the fairway. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I got a hole in one once. A 114 yard hole on a dinky par 3 course, but still. My grandpa was there and nearly shit himself he was so happy. Unfortunately, I hate golf with a passion and every last arduous stroke has been made only by the promise that my grandfather is going to die soon. If you like it though, more power to ya, I'm just gonna try to stick to miniature.

We only planned on have 3 people for a girls team this year(not enough for a team). We just convinced another girl today to play, we're gonna teach her how. Its gonna rock!

Golf is a very strange sport. Please refer to Robin Williams last stand up special to see what I mean.

I actually have Robin Williams' routine on Golf downloaded on my computer. It is hillarious!

I can't play for shit, so I don't. However, I do watch it periodically, and did watch the Masters. I was also happy for Phil. It is about time he wins a Major.

I can't watch golf, I find it very very boring to watch. I watched the last round of the Masters one year because I was home sick from school, it was quite awhile ago. I think it was the year that Vijay Singh(sp?) won. I couldn't sleep all the night before because I was so sick. I turned that on and it knocked me out.

You hit the ball and you go find it.

You know what you do once you find it....You hit the [censored] again. It'll be great. We can even put a little flag in the distance, to give em some hope.
