The last pets I've had were Sea Monkees. It's about all they allow in college. I kept them alive for pretty long but I had no practical way of cleaning their aquariam, so they all eventually died. Before that I've always had gerbils as pets, since my parents were allergic to both cats and dogs.

I have two cats that are brothers- one is a shorthair named Rocky, after The Rock, because he is such a slut that he was dubbed "The People's cat" back when I was watching wrestling. His brother is a longhair named Kosmo, as his hair sticks out like Kosmo Kramer's.
They were a Christmas gift, and while I love them, I do NOT in general recommend giving pets as gifts. It's like saying- here's a little extra monetary responsibility for ya, and you can't leave town for too long, either!

When I got married, my wife brought a yellow cat, Sugar, along. She is absolutely terrified of people. We have since gained a second cat, Lucky. She loves people to the point that she'll head-butt you to get you to pet her.
Edit: Oh yeah, and a fish with no name. We can't play with him/her/it, so I tend to forget about him/her/it.

If you don't pet Rocky, he'll pet himself using your hand. (That whole headbutt technique is very familiar to me.) That's if he isn't sprawled out on his back waiting for you to rub his belly. Kosmo is a lot more xenophobic- he likes to run and hide whenever I bring someone home that he hasn't met before, although he warmed up to Karmattack very quickly.

Naming goldfish is fatal. To the fish.
Everytime I named a fish, it died the next day. A friend of mine loves fish, and she named them, a few days later, died.
She got new fish, her sister's friend ran into her room, and named her fish. Couple days later, they died. This has happened on several occaisions actually.
Moral: Naming fish is potentially deadly to the fish.
My family and I have fourteen birds.
Yes, fourteen.
We adopted all of them and as a result, are able to give them the love and attention they need.
All of them exotic.
They drive Me nuts sometimes, but for the most part, they're a lot of fun. The Cockatoos and African greys are My favorite.
By the way... I taught the Greys to whistle the Simpsons theme song./forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I have cat named Yoshimi (named after the Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battes the Pink Robots") She arrived on the night of my birthday last year, yelling on our balcony. OUR FOURTH FLOOR BALCONY! I have no idea how she got there, but I was drunk and tired. I opened the door, she got under the covers and has lived with us since.
By the way Astaban, just thought it was funny, when I was in high school, I had a rat named Jimi. Also for Hendrix, obviously.

Agent Orange and I out for a walk. She likes it when I take her outside on a warm sunny day. Oh, she is a Tangerine Honduran Milk Snake and is a little over a year old.

This one is my daughter's snake. He is the same age as Agent Orange and he is an Albino Honduran Milk Snake. This is an older picture, so he is actually larger now, but not as large as Agent Orange. He is eating a "Pinky" mouse here, but is currently up to what they call a "Hopper" or a small adult mouse.

For some reason I always imagined working at a pet store would be cool........until a someone mentioned the baskin robbins selection of dookie they delt with daily. Took the cute an cuddly out of it for me.
I have a turtle (the only kind of pet you can have if you travel a bit / they are the cactus of the pet world). His name is Houdini. He's escaped from his pen a dozen times when he was small. I use to leave food out for him and he'd show up a day or two later from where ever he was hiding. I put him in the tub when I go away on trips and stock pile his food(sometimes have the neighbors watch him).
Here's the little bastard.

This is our gorgeous dog called Westie. Yes she is a West Highland Terrier named Westie. My partner has zero imagination. I tend to call her Westie McWestalot. This pic was from a few months ago. I don't think she liked her new tshirt (it said Spoilt Bitch on the back)
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa99/emmaf106/WestieMay08.jpg
Westie is cute for sure but, somehow I think of dogs in clothes as some sort of blasphemy.
If Westie could talk, it would be: "Aahhh yeah, about the shirt....."

Yeah we only put jumpers on her during Winter because she gets cold... other than that, she's normally nekkid!
I can very well see that. I've seen scottie's literally tossed in the snow no problem, and then others that wouldn't put their foot in it if T-bones where popping out. Hell, we use to take golden retrievers out hunting in the winter. they'd run into the freezing cold water to retrieve a duck; shake off the water and sit on their blanket waiting for the next shot. But, my hong kong neighbor's golden retriever is literally afraid of the water......yelps and runs away.
too funny. I do miss having a dog.

What is it about cats that's so damn funny!
I looked at JK's cat pics and even though there is nothing funny about the pictures, I laughed. All I could think of was previous cats I've owned and their mischief.
Friggin turle I have now..........not as fun as cat. No cat fishin', no kitty rodeo, he just tries to escape. I'm seriously contemplating have the discussion with the turtle.

agreed. I think all reptiles seem to have one emotion: "go fuck yourself."
There is no way in hell they are 'smiling on the inside.'
its a completely different pet to have. there's no love. no cuddling. no pats on the head. they are bitter resentful pets. and yet I can't bring myself to get rid of him. plus, they live as long as we do so; there's no waiting for him to die in a few years.

We have a Bearded Dragon Lucille 2, Tobias just died we buried him next to Buster under our big oak tree. two Yorkipoos Jack n Bella, A Parrot Fish, A Bala Shark, African Cichlide, a really cool silver fish and you can tell how happy she is by how dark red her fins are, when she is stressed or unhappy her fins are almost see through it's crazy and really cool and a handful of random tetras.
We are on the hunt for another Dragon that I want to name Barry but I think the lady wants to name it Lock and I would be cool with that

I have one cat. American short-hair Calico, but mostly grey, brown and white with just a tiny little bit of orange on her belly and one paw to indicate her Calico genetics. Really nice, sweet, gentle cat. Isn't in your face all the time, but likes the odd bit of attention. Just happy to sit near you and soak up the odd bit of attention as you go by.

Darn. My brother in law had a dog with epilepsy. It was bad, and getting worse. The vet advised him to help Aggro stop suffering for good. After a second and a third (and a fourth) opinion, he accepted the suggestion.

I'm sure that'll eventually happen to Beladi but right now we've got it managed with meds to where she has a bout of seizures about every 3-4 weeks. When it starts getting to the point that we can't stop them, we'll have to do the humane thing. :(
