This Friday I am attending my first Cub game of the season. Last week I did get to attend opening day for the Rangers, and it really got me in the mood for summer baseball.
Time to declare some team love...who are your picks and favorites for the year? Anybody going to games yet? Anybody waiting for me to say "This is gonna be our year!"?

Plus, I have to say it...my friends and I are meeting up at Goose Island, but it won't be the same without Denyse, Efexeye, Karma, and FanGirl. I will drink some Cranberry Blonde for you all! Sniff Sniff...

Well, I played baseball for 14 years, and I USED to love it. Now, the only way I like it is if I go to a game, which is easy, because I could throw a baseball out my window (if it opened) and hit Comerica Park. I can't watch more than an inning on TV without dozing off, unless it's my friends and I drinking beer and doing something else at the same time.
That said, I followed the Tigers all year last year and am ashamed to say they are from Detroit. Guess we'll just have to settle on having one of the best teams in basketball and THE best team in hockey here in the motor city...

I always support the Philadelphia Teams, so this year I'm going to see if we can unregister the Phillies as the city's baseball team. I can't even pretend they have a chance this year. Maybe I'll go to some AAA games this year.

Maybe the Tigers will pull through this year. It has been a rough run after last year.
From what Ryall says that park is pretty great.

HA! Fuck the Sox. Whiney ass bitches.
I am still proud to have proof of you in Wrigleyville you freakin' southsider. Oh, and wasn't it Efexeye who claimed he couldn't see the scoreboard through my hair. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Doubtful- until Mike Illitch, who owns both the Red Wings and Tigers, decides to start spending some money on the Grrs, it ain't gonna happen. And what's up with the whole 5 dollar large pizza deal? How is that going to help the Tigers improve? (Sorry, you need some context- Illitch owns Little Caesar's Pizza, too.)

No argument there. The park is awesome.

I think its great that the Tigers have already have won the same amount of games that they did like mid- May last year. You can thank Carlos Guillen for that (And for his uncredited error last night that cost them the game).
I may have to start rooting for them now that the M's are doing their best '03 Detroit impression.

As usual, I will be rooting for the Cubs. They are the only way that I can get my dad to watch sports, and that means that I drink free. I'm guessing that the only games that I will make it to this year will be the Sky Sox, the Rockies AAA team. Monday nights are Guys night. Dollar hotdogs and dollar Blue Moons and Killians.

Wow, you have a cool minor league team. Good beer and everything?
Our minor league club around here barely has five people that go to the games. The beer sucks and is expensive.

I used to go watch this minor league team that would put opposing players on the 'hot seat'. If that player struck out, beers were like a dollar for the rest of the inning. You will never see a crowd get behind a pitcher like that. It was such a cool idea.

Do any of you guys play fantasy baseball? It is my guilty pleasure. I can't get enough of it!

That is a good idea. Really, minor league teams are only successful if the club is good at marketing it properly and making it fun. Our local club sucks at that, so nobody goes.
You can go to a Brewer game for basically the same price as the Single A club. Which would people choose?

If you don't got on specific nights, beers are horribly expensive. But if you go on guys night or ladies night they are mad cheap. It will be fun to send my pregnant wife up to buy me beers on ladies night.

Holy CRAP! Could I have picked a better game to see? I doubt it. Double back to back homers (one set to win the game), Sammy Sosa ties Ernie Bank's Cub homer record, Dusty Back flips his shit and throws stuff everywhere.
(Then, of course, I proceeded to the nearest bar with the 40,000 other people to drink my happiness into more happiness) /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

*sigh* I miss those days when I would go to the Angels games with my binoculars and stare out into right field and just have a glance at Tim Salmon's nice, firm, meaty...
Oh, wait, sorry Baseball. I hope the cubs make it all the way this year. It was heartbreaking to see them loose last year. Have a couple cold ones for me Zens!

Even though it is only April, I got chills when I saw Sammy and Moises go back-to-back.

I know. It was just amazing. Goosebumps everywhere. The two guys next to me picked me up in the stands they were so excited. Beer was falling from the upper deck...it was just amazing.
What made it so cool is I got to take my friend from Texas to that game. What a way to introduce him to the Cubs and Wrigley.
