That totally makes up for the Hollywood Homicide trailer. Why the hell doesn't Spielberg give up the commentaries?

Because it would be free film class from Stephen Speilburg. I don't like that he doesn't do it, but I can see why, and it has nothing to do with "ruining the magic" for the audience. People would pay hundreds of thousands to hear him give a speech. How many reporters would beg to be in the room to ask, "Uh, you know that movie Jaws? How'd you get the shark to bite George Shaw like that?" Why give all of that for free in the form of a stinking commentary track on a DVD? Face it, he'd lose a lot of money in speaking engagements if he were to do any kind of commentery track.

Okay I see your point, but does Spielberg DO speaking engagements? If he went around the country talking I'd say OK makes sense, no big deal. But I've never heard of Spielberg giving that sort of speech anywhere (I'm in NYC, so who knows what goes on on the West Coast).
And, perhaps I am being a little socialistic here but does he need that kind of money? Hundreds of thousands of bucks is chump change to him - you know the kind of percentages he gets on his movies now?!? Honestly if that was what it'd came down, that'd depress me to no end.

I did a bit of research (if this is not news to you then it may be to someone else) and he apparently hasn't done any director commentaries. I could be wrong but I can't find any.
Maybe he thinks he is too cool for that kind of stuff.

Yeah, Spielberg hasn't done anyu commentaries at all I'm pretty sure. Maybe one for Sugarland Express, I don't know. It pisses me off to no end. I'm a commentary addict. Wait a minute, that gives me an idea...
