About 7 years ago, my mom sold all of my old comics at a garage sale. Its a familiar story I'm sure and if I would have had space and they would have been more important to me at the time, I am sure I could have done something to prevent it. I didn't though. Now, I am finding myself drawn back into it a bit and am trying to replace some of the comics that I really enjoyed.
There was one comic that I LOVED, but I can't remember the name of it. It was a really dark book drawn with a lot of detail (reminded me a bit of the Swamp Thing and the artist did really good tongues). I remember three stories (they may have all been from the same issue, but I doubt it).
One story was about a mushroom that instantly killed people, but in the one second between eating the mushroom and death, people said the high made them godlike. Mushroom eating parties sprang up and the story revolved around a detective who was going around to the parties aftermath trying to figure out why people would kill themselves this way. In another story, a man who was dealt a shit sandwhich in life stands out on a corner and challenges God to a fight. God doesn't show up for the fight and the city falls into lawlessness. The man (his name may have been Leroy) becomes like a cult figure in the neighborhood until God shows up in the form of a little kid and kicks the crap out of him. The last story I remember was about a couple making love and the man throws a flip comment out about love which lead to a discussion about how they didn't really know each other that well. He makes a crack about how he could have been the guy to committ some murder that happened close to the house. The woman freaks out thinking he is admitting to murder.
These came out about the same time as The Nam and the marvel New Universe. I have tried talking to a couple comic store employees, but get a lot of blank stares. Does this series sound familiar to anyone? Is there some resource that might help me figure it out?
Thanks!
Clint
