A post I made got me thinking: What's the best sports film ever? Pretty straight-forward. Here are my picks:
Bull Durham- This movie completely captures the essence of baseball like no other movie I've ever seen. Plus, it's funny as hell.
Rocky- The American dream personified. Stallone hopped on a slow train to shitsville after this one, though.
Caddyshack- Two words: Cinderella Story.
The Longest Yard- Reynolds style baby! This movie is tough. Best football movie ever. The soccer remake made me want to gouge my eyes out.

I don't think you could get any better than Bull Durham, Rocky, or The Natural, personally.

Escape to Victory. Any film with Michael Caine, Stallone and Pele in has to be a winner.

Good question!
My Top 6 of All-Time are:
For Love of the Game, The Mighty Ducks 3, Ice Castles, Air Bud, Ladybugs, Any Given Sunday...no, wait, that's not right at all.
ROCKY II -- I know the first one is technically better but to me, since I used to own a Fotonovel of this one as a wee lad, I've always loved 2 more.
Rocky: What do you want me to do?
Adrian (in a hospital bed, post-coma): Win!
Me: tears like a mofo
CADDYSHACK -- watchable from just about any point you come into it.
HOOSIERS -- still the best sports movie ever
BULL DURHAM -- one of the most fun, and well-informed, sports movies ever. Ron Shelton, how'd you go so wrong after TIN CUP?
WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP -- tell me you didn't go play some playground hoops after seeing this movie.
Honorable mentions: VICTORY (Pele and Rocky and Austin Powers' dad in the same movie?), COOL RUNNINGS, the last half-hour of THE NATURAL, SLAP SHOT, FIELD OF DREAMS, THE LONGEST YARD, THE BAD NEWS BEARS, BRIAN'S SONG and even A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN.

Awww, I forgot about basketball. I think Hoosiers is the best basketball flick ever, and I feel like a dumbass for leaving it off of my initial list. Hopper is so good in that.

Yeah, I really punted that one too. Of course Hoosiers should have been on my list. That should probably be #1.

I'll go for A League of Their Own. I thought it was rap. See I can use modern slang. Or is that in the wrong context?

Whaaaat? Nobody said Brian's Song! That shit made me cry like a kid the first time I saw it. Well, I was a kid the first time I saw it but man it's a great flick. Eight Men Out and Bull Durham definately tie for second.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned North Dallas Forty. Nick Nolte delivers one of the finest performances of his career portraying a lovely and promising young figure skating girl who must overcome adversity when her vision becomes impaired. I think. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it.

For me its Field of Dreams. "People will come Ray, people will most definately come". Its a classic!
Honourable Mention goes to Youngblood - purely for Rob Lowe's naked bod!!! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Hold on,let me get this straight. Nick Nolte plays a half blind figure skating GIRL? If he managed to pull that off then I'm sure it was the best performance of his carear

The Natural- even though they changed it to a happy ending for the movie. I still get chills when I hear the theme music and picture all of those big lights exploding as Redford runs the bases. dun-dun-dun......dun DUN dun dun......AWESOME.

slapshot was cool but i liked Rudy that was one of the greatest sports movies also any given sunday love & basketball the natural thos e r all awesome movies
I'm not sure if it qualifies as a sports movie and i know it's not the best, at least in the traditional way althought it may qualify as Ugly, Matt Singer you may want to look into it.
Anyway Gymkata stars former U.S. gymnast Kurt Thomas, who according to imdb.com, missed out on the Olympics because of Carter's boycott, anyway he must use his combined gymnastics and karate skills to participate in something called the Game. Why he has to do this i don't really remember, but the Game is like a cross country race to the death, that eventually takes him to "the Village of the Crazies." This is the best part of the movie with all the crazy people popping out from around corners and cackling in the windows of this Eastern European looking town. in the best scene of the movie a bucket is knocked of a well that just happens to have two rings just like a pommel horse. What happens next you can only imagine. Matt i'm telling ya, look into this movie for GB&U man, it was made for it.
