I know we usually talk about movies. However, What is your favorite song, and why? With a side question of: What is your favorite Maynard James Keenan song, and why? If you don't know whom he is relax, a lot of people don't. Please be honest, I don't care what music turns you on, just as long as something dose. I'm of the belief that music feeds the soul. You have to have it. So let me clarify to all of you, that when I ask what your favorite song is I mean, what song do you love more than ANY other. Fear no persecution from me on this one.( as if you would anyway /forums/images/icons/wink.gif )
My favorite song is: " Babe I'm gonna leave you" by Led Zeppelin
My Favorite Maynard song is:"Laturalus, Swim, or The Outsider"

>I know we usually talk about movies. However, What is your favorite song, and why?
This changes constantly, and by mood. But one that always sticks out is Kenny Wayne Shepherd's "Blue on Black" -- it sounded like an old favorite even the first time I ever heard it. Of course, I'd also put Anthrax's "Fueled" up there, too, and Elton John's "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road," and Oingo Boingo's "Sweat," Harry Connick Jr.'s "It Had to Be You," Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye," and too many others on the list, mostly for the different memories they evoke. Like I say, changes every day. Right now, your post has me listening to Tool as I type all this.
>My favorite song is: " Babe I'm gonna leave you" by Led Zeppelin
I'd still go with "Kashmir" as my favorite Zep tune.
>My Favorite Maynard song is:"Laturalus, Swim, or The Outsider"
If we're talking Maynard with A Perfect Circle, "Magdalena." If with Tool, I'd go with "Aenema," with "Schism" and "Sober" close behind.

I can't say I have a favorite song. I listen to way too much music to pick one song.
You should be specific about the Maynard question too. Like, are you just talking Tool and A Perfect Circle songs, or are covers and guest appearances included? I mean, he's done stuff with Tom Morello (Shandi's Addiction "Calling Dr. Love"), stuff with the Replicants ("Silly Love Songs"), appeared in a Deftones songs, did Muhammad My Friend with Tori Amos. I even like the remix of David Bowie's "Disco King" on the Underworld soundtrack that has Maynard singing backup, and the Puscifer song where he's singing solo in a weird, jazzy style.
As far as his two official bands go, I really like Lateralus too, also Pushit (both versions) and The Grudge. I think The Hollow might be my favortie APC song.
EDIT: Also, I have to ask. What is Swim? Are you talking about Aenima?

I was looking for the other thead and just got lost in a endless see of "oh I remeber that" so I thought I would just come back and answer.
One favorite song is impossible. but a list of favorites at the moment:
Probot: Shake your love
Lacuna Coil: Heaven's a lie
King's X: Black Flag
Anthrax: Cadillac Rock Box - Although Ryall's right Fueled is maybe the best song they ever did along with Among the Living
Kiss: Shock Me
OutKast: So Fresh, So Clean
Public Enemy: 911 is a joke
Willie Nelson: Devil in a Sleeping Bag
well that is off the top of my head, but secret shame: I also kinda like the new Britney song: Toxic, I am so ashamed. don't hate me /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

My favorites change on a daily basis, but I usually have a favorite song for each band.
Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil
Led Zepplin - have to agree with Ryall on Kashmir
AC/DC - Back in Black
Doors - tied Whiskey Bar and People are Strange
Beatles - that's like Sophie's Choice - couldn't choose
ZZ Top - tied LaGrange & Sharp Dressed Man
I. Ron Butterfly - In the Garden of Eden
These are the bands and songs that haven't changed from my favorites since I was a youngin'
"Wait a minute. This is rock and or roll music." - Simpsons

Im the same as fangirl. My favorite song is the one Im just really feeling at the time. Currently my favorite song has to be Lamb of God - Vigil. The song is badass. Im not sure how many of your are in to Heavy Metal, but if you are let me know. I love to discuss.

Favorite Song: "Given To Fly" - Pearl Jam
There are others that are close, but this is the one that I just could not do without.
Favorite MJK song: "Jerkoff"
Also I am kind of shocked by all the "Kashmir" love. I wouldn't really call myself a Led Zepplin fan (I love a coupla songs, and I'm pretty apathetic about most of their music), but I despise "Kashmir". It is so damned repetitive, and the repetition seems to go on for an eternity. Now "Going to California" that's a good one.

In reply too:
I'd still go with "Kashmir" as my favorite Zep tune.
I've never gotten "Kashmir". Good song but (for me and thats the key here) Puff daddy ruined it for me /forums/images/icons/grin.gif .Everytime I hear it I picture Puff Daddy singing it and its painful for me.
The strumming for "Babe I'm gonna..." is just so bad ass that it dose something for me. The way Page takes you from super depressing into delightfulness is great. He dose that with a lot of Zep's songs though, " The Battle of Evermore", " Black dog", even " Dazed and Confused".
If we're talking Maynard with A Perfect Circle, "Magdalena." If with Tool, I'd go with "Aenema," with "Schism" and "Sober" close behind.
All good choices.
Have you had a chance to listen to the new Perfect Circle. Great. I haven't heard anything about the new Tool yet. I know its is rumored to come out before Christmas.
In reply to:
"and Elton John's "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road,"
Elton John just plain kicks ass.

Well, I was going to post what is your favorite " Tool" song, but then I figured there might be people who liked " A Prfect Circle" more and so on and so on.... So I figured I would link everything into a little catagory I called Maynard James Kennan ..... I know it is hard to choose.
In reply to:
"Also, I have to ask. What is Swim? Are you talking about Aenima?"
Yeah, I just call it " Swim". I know I shouldn't but I do. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Tool is one of the greatest bands of all time. There like the 90's Journey. In 20 years only people from our era will remember them.

Britney has officially taken Madonnas' place as Queen Mega-slut of the entertainment industry.
No offence Smurfy, but it really pisses me off when someones' musical success has nothing to do with music.
When I was visiting my nieces a few weeks ago , Rolling Stones "Satisfaction " came on the radio and my niece said.
" I hate it when all these people steal Britneys' songs "
It's a good thing I have this "no strangling, no stabbing , no bludgeoning " policy . I can't believe I share blood with this person ?

Man do I loathe that Joan Jett for ripping off that cool ass Britney song, "I Love Rock & Roll". You would think that being as old as she is, she wouldn't have to rip off some 22-year-old in order to have a hit song.

I really don't like Spears, but i love that song for some reason. Maybe its because I listen closley to the background voices in many songs today. I just think the song is fab-o. My cousin is funny, she goes, man I hate Britney Spears...I wonder if her brain is as plastic as her boobs...mind you she is only 6.

Are you kidding me. Journey is a great band. Tool is a great band. Trust me, I love tool. I love Tool more than maynard loves tool. My ferrets name is Maynard for christ sake. Im just saying that there not going to be remembered in the future. Or maybe they will. Im not psychic I just like to pretend I am.

Honestly, I think Tool has staying power but that's just my opinion. I think they have as much to remember as bands like Pink Floyd and The Doors, although Maynard isn't all outlandish and out of control like Jim Morrison.
I think Pearl Jam and Radiohead will be on the tips of tongues for many years too.
My real question comes from your comparison with them to Journey. I don't doubt it, but I just don't see it.

I don't see it, but I also doubt it...but I feel the same way about Radiohead, so what do I know.

I really, really don't like Maynard... so I'll skip that part.
I think my favorite song is The Everlasting Gaze by Smashing Pumpkins... but it changes. I'll Catch You by The Get Up Kids, Something Vague by Bright Eyes, Down by Blink... hm some days I even think Regulator by Warren G is my favorite song.

Now this is my kind of post. I could post pages and pages about Led Zeppelin.
But my favorite... that's hard. It really depends on my mood. Over the Hills and Far Away, Battle of Evermore, Stairway to Heaven, Rock and Roll, Communication Breakdown . . . I always listen to Stairway to Heaven 6 or 7 times when I'm trying to sleep on a bus or something. It knocks me out. I listened to Led Zeppelin on a recent bus ride for a school event, it was a 2 hour ride, on the way back I listened to Stairway to Heaven at least 10 times. But my favorite Zeppelin song over all, is probably Over the Hills and Far Away.
I also am a huge fan of La Grange by ZZ Top, and Low Rider by War, Under the Bridge by RHCP, and Free Fallin' by Tom Petty.

I think I have CD's from every type of music except Polka, so I really can't pick a favorite song. It all depends on the mood I am in at the time.
Classic Country - Seven Spanish Angels (Willie Nelson and I think it's Ray Charles) and I Fall To Pieces (Patsy Cline)
New Country - The Dance (Garth Brooks)
Classic Rock - Love Hurts and Oh Pretty Woman (Roy Orbison)
80's Rock - In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins)
Jazz - Betcha By Golly Wow (Phyllis Hyman) and anything from Sade
Metal - Blasphemous Girl (My Ruin)
Metal/Rap Fusion stuff - The Ghost of Tom Joad (Rage Against the Machine)
Rap - I don't really listen to it enough to have a favorite.
Blues - When Love Comes to Town (B.B. King)
Easy Listening -Mandy (Barry Manilow) and Lost In Love, All Out of Love, Chances, and The One That You Love (Air Supply)
Yes, I have left out a lot, but I just listen to way to many types of music to really narrow them down.
Oh yeah, and screw all of you who were gonna rag on me for the Barry Manilow and Air Supply entries. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Wow,
A lot of really great posts. I have to agree with the consciences on this one, Yeah it does depend on the mood and well...the year. I mean it was kind of unfair of me to ask everyone to tell me his or her all time favorite song. There are sooooooooooo many to choose from.
Anyway, I've always felt the best way to really get to see whom I have the most in common with is to see everyone’s taste in music. The worst part of it is I underestimated you poop shooters. Hats off to all who joined in the fun. Thanks!!! If anyone else wants to partake I’ll keep checking,

When I was stationed in Oklahoma, this dude was speeding down I-40 and a trooper pulled him over. Luckily for him, he was listening to Rock 100 'The Kat' and they were playing 'I Can't Drive 55'. The cop walked up to him and said, "Hey! That is the Kat. I like that song. Just keep the speed down." He then let him go. The dude called up the radio station and thanked the DJs for playing that song when they did.
