Cameras, Cameras, who's got the cameras?

Hi!
I am just wondering, if anyone out there knows what type of video/movie cameras that people like Kevin Smith and Lloyd Kaufman use on there earlier films (clerks for Smith and The Toxic Avenger for Kaufman).
If anyone has any idea or knows straight away or knows how I could find out please tell me!

I would also like to say that it does'nt have to be those 2 specifically, just people like them. Independent film makers.
