Today, Saturday May 3, Alabama Head Football Coach Mike Price was fired before his team ever played a game. The reasons were various but basically boiled down to the fact that he spent several hundred dollars in a Pensicola FL strip club and woke up the next morning with a strange woman in his hotel room who then charged $1000 to room service while he played golf.

Iowa State Head Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy is under suspention and will probably be fired after a drinking binge at a frat house on a rival university campus. He was photographed kissing and being kissed by some coeds.

My Question, Should a coaches personal actions off of campus lead to his termination?

I see nothing wrong with what they did.

Personally I would have gotten myself a half dozen high class hookers and bought shares in Jack Daniels and charge it to the teams credit card. and as for the Iowa guy if I was to lose my job by being photographed with coeds then it'd be for more than just kissing them I'd prefer it to be a full length movie of me boning the sh1t outta them. Shall I shut up now????????? OK

Just to provide the update to this story, Larry Eustachy was fired yesterday, as expected. I was expecting a little more responce to this, but oh well.

RE: Mike Price
If that's all that happened than no, he shouldn't be fired. If the "strange girl" in his hotel room ends up being a prostitue who was paid for sex than yes he should be fired. Suspended maybe but fired, no.

RE: Larry Eustachy
This story to me is a little more gray than the other one. He didn't do anything against the law, but it doesn't reflect well on him or the university. I don't think he should have been fired, maybe a suspention without pay would be more appropriate.

In both cases the fact that the media has gotten a hold of the stories has no doubt cost both coaches their jobs. Had either one been a more private incident the penalties probably would have been lighter.

At what point do we worry that our personal lives are public domain? Has passing judgement become more important than the job the person is capable of. The advances in technology allow the gossip mongers to have proof instead of hearsay.

According to ESPN.com, Mike Price was in the habit of buying drinks for students and frequenting topless establishments. In college, I can count a few times a professor did not buy drinks for us if he was in the same bar. Did that make my campus full of people who should be fired? I doubt so.

Here is the real shocker: Men Go To Topless Bars! Men Get Too Drunk To Remember Where They Were the Night Before! Holy shit! Call Sports Illustrated!

The coach did not get arrested paying for sex. Have the guy pay back the $1000, and move on. Why did he get fired? Because he is stupid enough to get caught doing what 1000's of other stupid men do every night. I know little about sports, but I do wonder how bad Alabama wanted a new coach. Sounds like a good way to fire somebody, get somebody better, and create publicity for their program.

[/ QUOTE ] The guy had not even coached a single game yet. He was their new, get somebody better, guy.

The Problem at Alabama, was that Mike Price was their 3rd coach in as many years. They had a problem similar with Mike Dubose in 1999, but just slapped his wrist because he was in the middle of a good session. He won the SEC championship that year. But he was fire the next year after going something like 3 and 7 and getting the team on NCAA Probation (He had Boosters Pay for Players under his watch.) I think that Alabama didn't want to go thru that agian, and decided to cut bait. this really sucks for his 2 sons who were assistants on the team and will probably not be retained by new head coach Mike Shula (What is it with 'Bama and Mike's?), as they both left pretty good jobs -one was an assistant with the NY Jets- to join their father in Tuscaloosa.
It's a case of a many little mistakes and other circumstances adding up to destroy a guy. Was any of the things he did fireable, probably not, Was the sum of them all, unfortunately for him yes.
and it's not like Alabama wanted to see him go before this, most of the 'Bama Nation was excited to see his west coast style of offense be played.
