I know most of you guys were preparing for 18 hrs of Oscar, but did any of you happen to catch 60 Minutes, Sunday night?

They had a story (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/26/60minutes/main602415.shtml) on North Korea using the Diary of Anne Frank, as a tool to brainwash their school children into believing that American's are Nazis. It was truly one of the most frightening things i have ever watched. How do you fight the perception of a people when their government only feeds them lies.

Holy insane pollitical assylum, I did watch that. My favorite part was when the kids would say, "I'm sure that camps like that exist in America." My initial comedic reaction was, "yeah, they're called textile mills." Then they showed the teachers telling the kids what to say, and I laughed even more.

As a former literature major and aspiring writer, I'm offended that these kids are taught that the central lesson in Diary of Anne Frank is to not hide from your oppressors because you will eventually be killed if you try to hide, or as they put it on the show, "Anne Frank is a loser." That one kid was all, "I won't hide when the evil Americans invade, like Anne Frank. I will fight them."

It's sad that someone could take a book about peace and use it as propaganda to push their own agendas. Only communists would do something like that.

I know, it's insanity. and they seem to be teaching the kids a self-filling prophesy. That is that the U.S. will invade, when the "glorious general" does everything in his power in provoke western nations. Like i said before, it was a truely frightening show.

This kind of stuff happens in other countries too. The USSR had some great ones. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
