It's starting to bother me, because some people don't know this yet.

And many other Shooters have alternate identities, and I will give them away...maybe. I, for instance, have 2. But I bet nobody could ever guess which ones they are /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Anybody got a secret to hide (and willing to give us a hint)? Suspicions? Or, do you know something interesting about the Shoot, however random it may be, that you're sure others don't? For example, I know RB has several identities as well--he's mentioned that he uses them to keep people down to 3 stars when they get 'too popular' /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Yup, I posted a thread titled "Matt1 aka AnotherStoner" a couple of days ago. Also, I noticed My rating went down shortly afterwards. Think the thread was deleted.
Then a day later, it went back up.

I never got to read that thread, and it pissed me off. I was sitting there thinking, "Ok, why does Matt1 have two new names, and why did JIM's thread disappear?" As George Carlin would say, "It's a mystery!"

Folks, I think we should band together to ensure JIM's rating. How can we tolerate this injustice? Earning your stripes, and being voted down by newbies we piss off, those are scars we wear with honor. But this? This is wrong.

Oh, and be sure to post if you know what happened! Inquiring minds wanna know!

Just wanted to chime in with my two cents and try to clear up the mess. In the missing thread(s) I pointed out that at least 5 ( that's right 5 ) people are responding to the site from that particular IP . Matt1, RATM1966, RobinHood Daffy, Shifty , Another Stoner. All these people are on AOL . Uberbabe ZENS did some research and I'm not a techie so I don't fully understand her findings, apparently AOL routes through a caching server so all these people show the same IP. Hope you guys get this tonite I doubt this thread will be here tomorrow since it points out the impossiblity of policing the boards.( Which I really shouldn't have pointed out since it only serves those who would use it agaisnt us. )

Yeah, I'm kind of pissed that all the threads we have pointed this fact out in keep on getting deleted. I was just as confused as anyone else as to how I could have the same IP as someone else. But to finally put it to rest, you all have my word that I'm not AnotherName. Zen will have to explain it because she is the only smart one here.

Wow, I became "Uberbabe" and "The Only Smart One" all in one thread. I think my head just got bigger! But alas, I am fitting of neither title.

To quickly sum up the problem...AOL uses caching servers to distrubute pages to their users. For example, if 5 AOL users all request the page www.moviepoopshoot.com (http://www.moviepoopshoot.com), they are held on a internal AOL server, and the AOL caching server with 1 IP address goes to retrieve that page. Then it distributes said page to those 5 users internally. They do it for reasons of IP address conservation, and also some typically shitty AOL reasons.

It is a pain in the ass for webmasters because your metrics on site usage are always off. You could have 600 AOL members coming to your site but you only see 1 IP.

All these duplicate IP's are coming from the same caching server named cache-ntc-ac03.proxy.aol.com As Billy Joel would say...Matt1 is an Innocent Man.

Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey. I post as Stewey sometimes, when I'm feeling saucey, but otherwise I just use my actual name. There is a user on the board, Kalibak, and he works at the same place I do, so we share an IP. But again, it's not me.
