Hah, a fun read... Yet I'm somewhat pissed at Microsoft again.

Microsoft Takes on Teen Over Web Site (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040119/ap_on_fe_st/microsoft_unhappy_1)

Bill and Co. need a reality check.
Or a good smack upside the head with a bat...that has a rusty nail in it. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I just keep being reminded of that Simpsons episode where Bill Gates yells "Sell him out, boys!"

I think they have a limited legal claim since the two brands are identical when spoken, but if he changed it even slightly, to MikeRoweSoftware or something, there's not much MS could really do.

I'm reminded of " South Park "

General: Get me Bill Gates in hyar. * Gates is brought in *
You said windows 98 would be faster!

Gates : Well it is, it's over three ti-

General pulls sidearm PAKOW ! * Brains splatter*

Companies can get excessively protective of their branding standards. All the lawyers on retainer to big companies must invent legal issues for job security. When there is a genuine lack of trouble, they create it, draft huge memos about it, tie up our courts with it, and then charge the original company hundreds of dollars an hour to fix the "problem" that was never a problem at all. But heaven forbid anyone taint the precious branding standards Microsoft has set forth.

It may be dangerous to say this, since I am a consultant...but one of my favorite phrases is this...
Consulting: If you are not part of the solution, there is good money to be made in prolonging the problem.

Bill Gates doesn't decide to get a 17 year old kid, his lawyers do.

LOFL. Then someone will sue them because their club name sounds like some other copyrighted name.

This also reminds me of the whole WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) and WWF (World Wrestling Federation) lawsuit.

Hmmm... it appears as though gates is an adherent to that old adage, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
