Okay techies, maybe you can help me...

Get this--every time I right click on a folder in My Documents, the folder will stop responding. Does anybody have the slightest clue why this might be?

I had the same exact ANT problem. The exterminator charged a grip though. The week after that i realized my comp was working really really fast, but then i found out it had a really awful SPEED habbit and had to send it to a rehab facility. Its clean now though.

FORMAT, AND REINSTALL!

That sucks. There can be many reasons why. I hope you backed up your data in case you have to to a reinstallation.
It could be a corrupted data problem, virii somewhere on your system, a physical problem with your hard drive, and so on and so on. What I'm getting at is, it can be a software or hardware problem.
I think You should take yourself over to PCPitstop.com (http://www.pcpitstop.com) to see if they can find anything wrong. That site helped Me clean up a DLL file problem that was freezing up My computer.
Then, go over to Tech TV (http://www.techtv.com/techtv/index.html/)
and sign up to be a member, from there You can access the forums and ask them. I've gotten some great help from the folks who post there.

Because I had a Compaq before this one, I have very little trust in computers, and have done a pretty decent job of backing everything up. I just really don't want to get in over my head.

This is also a very odd thing, but (and I'm using XP, never had this problem before) Defrag will work, but the System Cleanup will not. It doesn't freeze the computer, but it seems like some programs just take ages to run, and some don't ever finish. Winamp, and WMP are also this way..

Is it more likely that certain programs can give your PC a hard time, or is it more likely that I just have viruses and/or corrupted files, etc.?

Everyone gave really good comments. I would also try ScanDisk, Disk Defagmenter and "Regclean" (it can be downloaded and run to clean out outdated system registry entries.) Cobwebs of crap get left in your registry even after deletion or uninstallation of programs,etc... Hope this helps. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Nah, those annoying kids would always be outsmarting me in their efforts to skip class and/or detention. maybe every now and then I'd give one of the slackers some moral advice and they think of me almost as a an, I suppose god, I'd be the teacher who came into class and changed the lives of all he met.
