When I was in college, I won a contest for piano, and for winning I got to tour florida as a piano soloist with the Orchestra.

I had a TON of fun, congrats to you, and have a great time!

Don't you love it when school pays for you to take a vacation? I got to go on one of those for FBLA back in the day and it was fantastic.

Well, the school doesn't really pay. You raise funds through selling candy, and taxes pays.

This is 1 thing I don't mind taxes going to though, I think it is great when the teens get to go somewhere like this.

Damn, I really wish I could go to Florida right now. I'm at Buffalo, and it's cold, and the snow, and the walking in the cold and the snow. It's like god is punishing me.

Our band went when I was a sophmore and again our senior year- oh so many moons ago... It was really cool. I had mono but there was no way in hell I was going to eat the twelve hundred bucks I put up for the trip! I wound up with my roommate's girlfriend and when we marched, they broke protocol and stopped the whole parade so we could play our band's "theme" song. (That was a proud moment- I think we scared some kids on the parade route- we marched with a 180 block and when we played Slavonic we only played double-forte.) We found out Chip and Dale were Metallica fans and that assh*le dwarf- Dopey- gave us the finger for no reason at all. Epoc Center was kind of a let down, but overall, it was a blast. Good times- you'll have fun! That was over ten years ago for me and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

I'm stuck in Massachusetts, where you can't go anywhere without seeing a [censored] trying to marry. And we're stuck in this situation, too; all the thinkers are in their Florida homes.

What's wrong with a "[censored]" trying to get married?

Asteban

Our trip costs almost 500 a person. We have a ton of fund raisers, but what isn't paid for by fund raisers we have to pay for out of our own pocket. So far of my own money I have 165 in the bank. Through fund raisers I have around 100. So I'm well on my way. We're selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts right now. June is too far away /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Oh yeah I forgot to mention. We aren't playing in the parade, just playing a concert thing. I'm glad we're not playing parade because then I would have to haul 2 instruments along. I play clarinet for concert band, and mellophone for marching. Whee.

Hey Asteban, Congrats!
I'm not to far from Orlando, I have to get Myself over there and go for a ride on the "Mission to Mars" attraction.
Local news had a piece on how people are barfing on the ride because it's so intense! So in response, Disney has stocked the cockpits with "air sickness bags". Don't know if that's really true though... /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Oh, uh psychofiend...

Yeah, I was also once on a bando trip to Florida. We didn't perform anywhere in Disney World, we played at the Gator Bowl halftime show. The night before that the city held this huge New Year's Eve bash just for us bandos in the city convention center, and I was up partying until four. Then we had to wake up at 8, practice for an hour, and march in a parade before we went to the game. I was so tired that I slept through the entire second half. Even the crazy Georgia Tech fans couldn't keep me up.

Really? Can that be right? I thought psycho was gay? Why would he be so upset about his own kind marrying each other?

Don't want to hijack Asteban's thread but...

Psychofiend, if you did type what most of us think you did, what's the hell's wrong with You?
Afraid of what lurks underneath your manly facade?
Dropped on your head as an infant? Are You "Camel Toe" all over again? Maybe an inbred cousin?
What? What's the problem Psycho?
However, if You did'nt then I'm sorry for what I just typed.

hijack away, I don't mind. If you are criticizing him about him saying [censored] ah well. I make fun of gay people and defend them at the same time all the time. I know way to many of them for me to discriminate.

I think it's important to realize in whose company you are speaking. There are plenty of things I might say around my friends that I wouldn't say on TV in front of a national audience.

I can say '[censored]' when talking to my gay frined and he gets it and the context in which I meant it. On a message board though, I run the risk of being misunderstood. So even if I'm not misunderstood, I come across as an ass merely for opening myself up to the possibility.

Hey Asteban,
Did you forget to mention that I'm going to Florida with you. We are in the same band.

I'm glad that we're not playing in the parade. For those of you that don't know (which would be everyone but Asteban) I'm the sophomore drum major, they call me the Dsquared major because I conducted the drumline this year. I also play the bassoon for concert band, and the clarinet for pep band, although that doesn't really matter.

ILovePapaSmurf

No, no it doesn't.... but you just felt like you had to mention it, didn't ya!?

Asteban

Why does that Dsquared major sound like it came from Mary? (sorry to all of you, who obviously don't know mary).
