Whats your favorite sitcom and why ?

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I have got to say that CYE has become my favourite sitcom of all time. It is painful to watch at times and LD often makes you wince rather than laugh but it is always compelling viewing.

There are no scripts other than a brief outline of the scene, other than that each episode is improvised which makes it all the more impressive

Favorite Sitcom ever or now?

Because ever would be Alf and now I am kind of interested in Crub and Sex and the City. Almost anything HBO puts on its network is good, except for K Street.

I will have to agree with you on that one Asteban. The 'That 70's Show' kicks ass. It is definitely on the top of my list of sitcoms.

I think Friends is up there with 70s Show and Seinfeld. But how could you people forget the Simpsons?

Efexeye
01-11-2004, 01:04 PM
Psycho-

A) The Simpsons is not really a sitcom. It's animated, and there is no laugh track, plus there are more than 3 or 4 recurring characters.
B) If you think That 70's Show is as good as Seinfeld, you should be banned from posting opinions about television.

Alf was fantastic, but my favorite All-Time is Cheers. IMO that IS better than Seinfeld. (althogh seinfeld is very close.)

Favorite currently is probably Frasier, or 70s show.

My favorite new sitcom: Arrested Development. Simply hilarious. Opie can seldom do wrong.
My favorite sitcom that got cancelled for no apparent reason except NBC execs are a bunch of f*ckheads: Hidden Hills. It had a hot mom.
My favorite animated sitcom: Futurama. Bender represents so much of my life...
My favourite from the UK: Red Dwarf. The one where Rimmer takes up the mantle of Ace is a classic. (By the way, where the hell is the movie?)
My favorite above all others: The Simpsons. It looked as if it were soon to be the end, but this new season has proven there is still life in Springfield.

Matthew

OF COURSE Father Ted and Night Court, man I miss so many when I start thinking.

Father Ted is probably my favorite non-american, with a close second to "Keeping up Appearances."

My favorite Father Ted episode is PROBABLY Speed 3.

Sitcoms, I think, are very hard to pull off well. By in large, I would say most are crap. However, there are a few that can transcend the medium.

Seinfeld
All in the Family
I Love Lucy
That 70's Show
Arrested Development
Cheers
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Then there are those that might be considered sitcoms, but that I don't feel really fall in that category.

The Simpsons
Sports Night
M*A*S*H
South Park
Sex and the City

Then there is the hilarious sitcom-spoof, That's My Bush.

Asteban
01-11-2004, 11:54 PM
I'll have to add to my list.
Of course That 70s Show is number one.

Then(not in any order...I think):
Arrested Development
Friends
Everybody Loves Raymond(its pretty good, I'll watch it when nothing else is on)
Malcolm in the Middle
The Simpsons(although I don't necessarily agree that its a sitcom)
3rd Rock from the Sun(God I miss that show)

Alf kicked so much ass.

My favorite situational comedic moment is when 13-year-olds tell me how great the Simpsons are now, and then say, "Tracy who? Wasn't that Tony Hawk episode like the best ever?" It makes me feel old.

The Cowbell sketch is my favorite Will Farrell sketch ever. The thing I like about Everybody Loves Raymond is that, something tells me that is how my life is gonna end up, and its scary. But seriously, the guy that plays the father(his name has slipped my mind, Peter something I think) makes that show worth it.

Alf does still kick ass, although he did sell out . . . It made those comercials ALMOST tolerable.

Family Guy, WHUT!

Can someone post the definition of a sitcom? I always thought the definition of a sitcom was having the same characters(animated or not)take on a different "situation" each week with comedic results. Whether you agree or not, Simpsons can be classified as a sitcom and my favorite. Next is Family Guy. Another animated sitcom. BTW, someone posted that Simpsons weren't a sitcom because there was no laugh tracks. So Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley among countless others that were "filmed in front of a live studio audience" are not sitcoms?

Efexeye
01-20-2004, 02:48 PM
I just don't see animated shows as sitcoms- it's a whole other genre unto itself. I don't care if you agree or not, that's just how I feel.

The only reason it's unfair to consider Simpson's a sitcom is because it's about twenty times better than pretty much any live action sitcom.
