All i can say is wow. During my science-fiction class today some students critiqued(?) the evil dead trilogy, and they showed a few clips in class. I have never seen the movie so i didnt know what i was gunna get. It was the funniest thing i have ever seen in my life. I am probably going to try and rent them as soon as i can..... come on.... the guy shoots some wall, and like 100 gallongs of blood shoots out, thats quality movie making right there.
I just wanted to ask if i really should rent it, i have had some mixed reviews, and have been known to rent/go see horrible movies, i thought were good. So, help a brother out.

First off... science fiction class? Hmm.
All the Evil Dead films are pretty good, but Army of Darkness reigns supreme.

Yea, cool huh? Its a great class, the teacher is crazy AND i get english credit for it! its awesome. We read short stories by Ray Bradbury, and Arthur C. Clark. We have Watched Fahrenheit 451, Fantastic Voyage, and 2001: A Space Odyesy. Next semester the focus is on fantasy though, we are gunna read the hobbit.....

I took a Physics in Science Fiction class. I expected it to be just a movie watching class, but it was actually a good class, a very low level physics class, but still cool. Would have been a much better learning experience had I not been a Senior-level Physics student at the time. But it was an easy way to pick up a few credits. We watched Bladerunner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and a coupla episodes of Star Trek. The only assignment in the class was to watch a Sci-Fi movie and write about the good and bad science in the movie. Kind of like what they do at the Bad Astronomy (http://www.badastronomy.com) website.

I keep hearing about easy classes... WHY CAN I NEVER HAVE ONE?!?!
I know people who are always telling me how easy college was for them... about how they had to write one paper for a certain professor, then I take the same professor and I have 7 papers, a term paper, a final presentation, and 3 tests!
Arrrrgh!

I would say I probably went to 40% of my classes in college. Never let your education interfere with your learning. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Well, it would have been a lot easier for me to get into grad school if I'd had the kind of undergrad G.P.A. that goes along with attending classes....

I only took two "easy" classes. Physics in Sci-Fi and Male Female Comm. Other than that I mostly busted my ass. Every class that I took that wasn't a Science class had mandatory attendance. You lost points if you missed class. All the Physics classes that I took also had mandatory attendance. If you didn't go to class, you had no idea what was going on, and you failed the [censored] class.

My cousin went to all his professors at the start of his senior year and asked if his final grade could be his grade for the class. They all said yes, and he spent 11 weeks taking acid trips and smoking weed in his dorm room. Then, he sobered up, crammed for two weeks, and aced his finals.

Some of my professors give out 5% to 15% to your final grade for perfect attendence. That helps motivate me to show up. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Grading on attendance? That's very wrong.

Most of my professors do it, rolls into the "participation score" (read: arbitrary grade padding mechanism).

Yes, teachers do that. And I agree its wrong, but being absent 54 times in one year for my english class didn't affect my grade for that class. I passed with a B +.

I don't mind the arbitrary "participation score" because whenever I am in class, which is more often then not, I am King shit of fuck mountain.

I loved my classes in College and went to most of them. My college wanted to be accredited so they have to have all the BS classes, but since they were and Art school they catered the classes for artists (ie Easy).
For my math/science credits, I took The Biology of Coffee, Chocolate, Sugar and Spice, the Anatomy of Human Sexuality, History of Space Exploration, Science Film Seminar and Science of Acoustics.
Learned a lot in the coffee class...chocolate day was awesome. got to try a piece of every kind of chocolate.
In case you are wondering, I went to Columbia College in Chicago. Largest film school in the world and 85% of the graduates work in the field they graduated in. Of course there is a 75% weed out rate after the second semester. They let everyone in and then make you prove yourself within the program. Great school. Oh, did I mention Tai Chi counts and a general elective?

Definitely see 'em. Army of Darkness is my favorite of the three, you can check out my column archives for a review of it.
