This is new to Me! No, I'm not wearing a Dmoney suit either. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

I'm watching the news while on the web and they just had a blurb about Tom Cruise.
He supposedly told Empire magazine that He finds the Iron Man comic book series to be fascinating. Cruise went on to say that He would love to play Stark/Iron Man if someone wrote the right script!
Hmmmm.... Uh Smith, hey...uh... Smith, you there? /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
I think He would be a good Iron Man. Looks the part, is a great actor, yeah...sounds good.
Smith does love the comics... Could be a good pairing.

He and [insert fake suprise and gasps] Nicholas Cage have both been attached to it in one form or another for quite a while supposedly.
Here's the whole article from the website for those interested.

<font color="brown"> You can't turn around at the moment without tripping over a Marvel superhero on the big screen, and next up for the Hollywood treatment is Iron Man, which has so far attracted more interesting casting rumours than any other superhero property in town.

When the project was first mooted, long term comic fan Nicholas Cage and Tom Cruise both expressed interest; the kind of star wattage more normally associated with literary adaptations than men in tights.

Much has changed since, including the screenwriters, the script and the principal villain, but it seems that Cruise remains keen. In this month's Empire, he reveals that he is still working on a deal to don the Iron Man's armour.

"He's a fascinating character, but we've got to figure out how it's going to work. And everyone is doing a Marvel character these days. How do we make that new, create something fresh where it doesn't feel like, 'Oh, here comes another superhero story'?"

Iron Man, for those not up to speed, is billionaire industrialist Tony Stark, who must wear an armoured breastplate to protect his injured heart. In between running a company and dealing with alcoholism, he fights bad guys with the aid of an incredibly advanced suit of armour and a disturbingly large array of weaponry.

If the deal comes off, Cruise will be the biggest star to don tights and a mask since Errol Flynn, unless you count Stallone's Judge Dredd, which we don't. For the full interview with Cruise, and the complete lowdown on his latest film The Last Samurai, pick up the February issue of Empire magazine, on sale now, or click here to subscribe. </font color>

I just don't see this movie actually getting made, i think we are on the backside slide of the "Superhero" action movie fad.

I don't know. I felt that way, but my mind is changing. As long as movies have been made, we have had fantasy and science-fiction stories being told. I'm sure it will continue. It's so prevalent right now because such huge advances have been made in special effects and many things that were unimaginable yesterday are commonplace today. I mean, when superhero stories go away, what will they be replaced by? Bridges of Madison County and The English Patient over and over? Let's hope not. I think we're seeing such a rush of already established stories because of a few factors, one of which is a pre existing fanbase. But, I think the idea is here to stay more or less. At least, that's my 1.5 cents.

I heard about Tom wanting to be Iron Man before Daredevil was even being discussed. I think I've owned it on hsx.com for at last a couple of years.

Don't know who I feel about the casting. From the cartoons, I just picture more looking like Tom Sellec. I don't think he should play him, but that's who I picture. Besides which version of Iron man would they do? Didn't they rewrite his origin?

Cruise could probably finance half the movie, if he got the rights. I don't know who would be a good director for the flick, but Ironman's weapontry and strength naturally make him a character for a blockbuster action flick. We'd all like to see Smith get the gig, but he has the next few years of his career all filled up. Although most of you would disagree, I could see the Wachoski Bros. doing this flick. Sure, most people hate them right now, but they understand comics and do good action. I just hope they wouldn't try to write any of the script.

I could see Cruise playing Stark, but I was never much of an Iron Man fan.

I'm not too sure about this being the "backside slide" of the superhero movie trend. Spider-Man 2 will undoubtedly be huge, but I have a feeling Catwoman is going to deal a big body blow to the genre (or is it sub-genre?)

I can picture the end credits now-

A quick jump to black after an action shot of Tommy's hair blowing in the wind as the first strains of Black Sabbath are heard....."I am Iron Man"!
Ozzy is popular right now, they'd have to work the song in somehow...

I agree with you on Amazing Spiderman (is it still called that?), it is going to do hotshit at the box office, but it think beyond that it's the Dead Sea. think about what's coming down the pike, Constantine, Hellboy (which i want to like, but am nervious about), the aforementioned Catwoman, Ghostrider, the list goes on and on, and at a certain point i think that the general public will tire of all comic book movies.
What will be the next trend? who know's, Buddy cop's, Children switching places with their parents, Talking Babies?

Second that. Spiderman 2 will be big, and then, probably X-3 at some point. Batman 5 (6?) will proabably make a dent too, as well as whatever finally happens with Superman. Otherwise, I agree- Punisher looks terrible (I'm pissed), Hellboy looks like it's going to be A'la TMNT (just saw the trailer, he looks kinda cartoony, but WTF do I know)...what else...Catwoman *shudder*? Uhh.....I think that's about it. Superheroes have a lot of potential for movies- I think one day kids in film school will study the "American Comic Book Super-Hero" genre, much like we today study the "Hong Kong Action" genre.

As a New Line Exectutive said in Jeff Wells said in column today: "A $60 million Ron Pearlman movie? That's ballsy."

I have a feeling about Hellboy. A good one. I'm trying to lower my expectations though.

Wasn't it poopshoot boogie?

"I knew a girl who lived on the hill, she won't post but her sister will,

and she boogies, she does the poopshoot boogie."

I think those are the words.

Iron Man's been cemented in my top 3 all time favorite heroes since I was a kid and Cruise has been my pick since God knows when his interest was first reported.

Iron Man is:
- A billionaire playboy and the world's most elligible bachelor (a cinch for Cruise)
- A world-saving super hero (c'mon special effects!)
- A raging drunk and wreck of human being in all other respects, from his health to his personal life (this is the toughie)

Cruise doesn't usually get the chance to play characters with much depth, his forte is usually making shallow characters seem less so, but I think he could pull off the Iron Man dichotomy. The problem, as this story elludes to, is that writing a script that makes this dichotomy believable is a herculean task. How do you handle the exposition?, what's he like when he drinks?, can his battles and personal life be less than totally disjointed?, what villian?, can Mandarin make sense in a technological movie?, and does he fly in the armor drunk? These answers, some more trivial than others, all need to be satisfactorily answered in script form before anything else happens, I just hope they can get someone to do it.

I wonder what are the guys who wrote X2 doing right now...

<font color="green"> Hahaha Tube Steak. Funny. My brother somehow got ahold of some of those labels that grocery stores use to label meat. Well he put some of them together and put them on a PS2 controller, so now the controller is forever referred to as tube steak. </font color>

I find it's best packed in salmon.

<font color="green"> Packed in salmon? But that makes it taste all fishy . . . uh, I mean . . . crap I'm screwed. *nervously laughs then runs away*

Heh heh. Just kidding /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif </font color>

Well to prepare it properly you need some kind of pressure cooker. You need a place where you can create some friction.

Asteban
01-10-2004, 03:19 PM
<font color="green"> Friction eh? Well there's always my . . . . </font color>

psychofiend
01-10-2004, 03:38 PM
Hmmm... I was thinking a convection(sp??) oven, that way we could heat in from the inside out as opposed to the usual outside in. That way there is no need for fric-
Wait a goddamn second...
Oh my God, you people have been making innuendos. The tube steak must be a man's penis, you sick bastards.
