Awfully quiet today....kind of spooky...is this a calm before a storm? Is Dmoney massing troops to invade and tell us they are adapting Lord of the Rings? Or has he come into a large sum of money and is now coming to all of our houses to kick our buts?

DMoney has secret information on a sequel to Kill Bill Vol. 1 that no one saw coming. He says that its coming out sooner than we think, like this year. Man, that DMoney was such an insider, I envy him.

Apparently he has inside info on a new movie starring the one guy from Lord of the Rings. It's called Goonies. His sources, mysteriously referred to as "they," say it is coming out sometime in 2005 and it is awesome.

We should take this quiet time to make sure each thread has there full supplies for the upcoming time that Ryall will be gone and the teenagers will be online. Fill all the buckets up with water, sharpen pitch forks, soak the torches in gasoline, board up all the windows and make sure we have enough duct tape.
Except in efexeye's threads since he loves the newbies so much. They can take shelter in there. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I am waiting in anticipation for 4:30 so I can get heck out of here!
Want to hear a funny story? Well, I think it is funny. Anyways, I was at Best Buy with the boy's brother and they had a demo running of Episode III, so I took control of one of the controllers, played this 8 year old kid, beat him, lost to his dad, lost to his 6 year old daughter (actually I let her win) and beat the 8 year old kid again. So, as this family left, I was waiting for a player and this teenage boy, probably 15, sits down, grabs the other controller and we go out it. I'm Obi-Wan, he's Anikan, well, I beat him, 3 to 2 and as he gets up to leave, he says under his breath, 'Fucking bitch,' throws down the controller and walks away. And that is one of the reasons why I avoid the X-Box. ;)

Word- standards have simply gone down. I am only 29, but, as I sat in Taco Bell at lunch today, I simply could not believe the language of the two teenage girls sitting at the table next to me. Every second word out of their mouth was "fuck", "bitch", or "nigger". They weren't being quiet about it, either. This is a public place we are talking about, with little kids everywhere. When I was that age, my buddies and I may have used foul language, but at least we didn't broadcast it for everyone to hear.
It's a byproduct of the whole "be yourself" and "keep it real" movement in youth today. The only problem is, no one told them that if who you are is an asshole, it's probably better to try to be someone else, and that "keeping it real" doesn't mean purposely being a jackass, or saying whatever you want whenever you want. That attitude leaves you in jail- exactly where I'm sure those two future drains on society were headed.
Smurfy, sorry, I didn't mean to give the impression that that kids' behavior was acceptable- I just meant that you shouldn't expect too much from a 15-year-old who is alone at Best Buy.

And that is one of the reasons why I avoid the X-Box. ;)I remember a similar story when I was in an arcade, satisfying my pro-wrestling craving with the game WWF Wrestlefest. The game has two modes; battle royal or tag team tournament, and at any stage of the game, should a player desire a power up, they must insert more money. Great scam.
Some eight year old decides to join in my game already in progress as I almost had the battle royal beaten, on one quarter no less (ah, the days when arcade games were only a quarter). Kid joins in and since I cannot physically turn and beat him sensless, I do so vicariously through my cunning use of Hulk Hogan, versus his Ultimate Warrior. I beat the kid within an inch of his life, just enough so he can't get pinned, and he puts in another quarter. And what's left of the cpu's attack me, as well as this kid, who doesn't know the propper nuances of at least getting rid of the cpu's before going after "player 1".
I once again, beat him enough to almost have him finnished off, and the shit puts in another quarter! Then, he almost beats me.
I clear the last of the cpu's, and just wail on this kid, and he keeps putting quarters in, until he finally runs out, and I can give him the spanking his mommy won't. The sweetest tears I ever saw came from that brat when the ref counted three when I beat him.
At seventeen, it made me feel like a big man.

Just to let you all know that yesterday I was going to go crazy on some little kids at EB Games yesterday. I went to pick up the boy from work and he works next door to an EB Games. These two kids were playing episode 3 and I really wanted to play. And they kept playing. Not following the unwritten rules of giving up your controller if you loose. So I am sitting there and they just keep playing, so finally I go, you know what, I want to play you all need to give up that controller. You've had enough. They were pissed and I ended up loosing. Speaking of creepy movies, I have in my possession a copy of one of the very first films ever produced by Darren Bousman, the first time director who is currently writing and directing Saw 2... A buddy of mine went to college with him (three years ago) and loaned me a copy of their final student film. I realize it is a student film, but I'm interrested in seeing how far the guy has come. According to my friend, he's a first-rate dick and a hack. We'll see.

That's all it is lately, any topic where people disagree with each other ends up being a thread is about who gets to post what, about how newbie fucktards have just as much right to be here as regulars, and about how boring the boards are because everyone is just so mean to each other. For the regulars, any thread on a serious topic is really just for us to flex our muscles. I have no delusions that I'll be changing anyone's mind on a message board, but it gives all of us the ability to hone our arguments, strengthen our beliefs, and helps us realize why we came to those conclusions as individuals.
To lose an argument is to turn it into a flame war, and on a public message board, the losing of the argument is there for all to see and later archived. Nonetheless, one has lost and it is public knowledge for all those who wish to hold it over that person's head.
It's the newbies that don't know how to argue, and when bested by logic of all things, they pull the the old "yur all 40 n livin wit yo parents baz-mint," card. That person deserves what's coming to them after that, and be it flame or not, it is going to be more intelligent than anything the newb would ever contribute.
In the most recent case, we have this one person acting all sensitive and claiming people are playing too rough. One thing lead to another, and a thread was closed, and persons were warned by the powers at be. Now everyone seems a little gun shy because of some pussy (yeah, I said it) went all Cindy Brady (not Fangirl) after he got booted because no one likes him.
Now we're left with topics that won't hurt anyone's feelings, and that's the boring part. I can't count the arguments I've had with RB, and I freakin' respect the guy. He helped me realize that if I don't like something, why waste my time with it. BAMS and I disagree on everything from music to religion and I invited him over the next time he's in Nashville.
It's grown-ups that can argue and still remain friends when they realize that even though they have differences, we can still interact civilly. The kids that don't know how to act when the adults are talking are the ones who get punished, not the inverse.
Efexeye

You said a mouthful, man, and I agree with every word. Arguments on the boards are a flexing of metal muscle, that's ALL.
I am still refraining from going after a certain Canadian newbie because I like to think I'm a little more civilized than that, but when the guy is calling me a little bitch in PM's instead of posting what he thinks, like he has a pair, I quickly become inclined to take liberties with the idea of decorum.

Nice. The reasons that I love to argue both religion and politics is so that I get to hear the other side(no matter how crazy...or how damaging to my point they are). I wrap myself up in liberal blogs and liberal talk radio. This just a great job of honing my points, but without flexing my muscles against others that differ...there is no reason to even be passionate about my points.

I can't believe anyone took his side. We all knew the deal, despite the lack of IP adress. We at least knew something was amiss, and suddenly every newbie was the witch. Of course, a few of us were baited into arguing, and when the person cried foul after being logically bested he outed himself.
I still don't know exactly the post that drove him over the edge into the profanity spree that he launched into, nor will I understand the reasoning behind trying so desperately to come back into a community that he professed to hate, yet did not want him in the first place. The duality of a flaming newb.
It still applies that when the kids don't know how to act when the adults are talking, they break out in tantrums. There are two types of attention; good attention and bad attention. The ignored, bored child figures that the bad attention is better than no attention. Then there is the outburst of tourette's like proportions.
Plain and simple, we have nothing to worry about. The adults should still discuss the pros and cons of any issue without worry. We need no rules of conduct for the board, as others have sugguested. While the idea was only for the best intentions, it only gives power to the "b@llikerz" and the "snoobie boobies," which is the last thing they should have. Likewise, we shouldn't even have to police ourselves. We've had an amazing community for three years, which is occasionally interrupted when a Jaundice_Camel_Lizard decides that the boards should be all about their crazy antics. Regular activity shouldn't stop because of one post, save Ryall or if there ever comes a day when (and you know we're all hoping) Big Kev actually posts when he's not under the guise of Dmony or Gillan.
The regulars and other that have been accepted into the community should have no worries about unloading on each other because that's what families do. We also support each other in all of our outside endeavors. The only times problems consistantly arise is when some newbie upsets our communal balance enough to make us fearful of having intelligent discussions.

Yeah, it followed its natural evolution- the regulars gave him plenty of rope with which to hang himself, and, given enough time, he did so, but not before a thread got locked because he whined like a little bitch. In retrospect, that may have been a mistake, but, this is a big board for Ryall to moderate- I mean, the guy has a job and a life- and that was a forgivable mistake, I think.

Personally, I have to learn to ignore that behavior in some of the regulars here that still don't know how to argue without getting personal and sullen when they are out-witted. I'm definitely guilty of being a righteous ass- I don't attack people until they attack me, then I gleefully go after them with both barrels, but maybe I should just learn to be the bigger person. I'm working on that, but it's tough sometimes.
Agreed- I understood the suggestion about rules, but I disagreed with it. It's a slippery slope between saying what is okay to post and what isn't, and not having any freedom at all on the board. I would like to discuss serious, even controversial topics, at times, without being preached to or having my personal values attacked.
The regulars and other that have been accepted into the community should have no worries about unloading on each other because that's what families do. We also support each other in all of our outside endeavors. The only times problems consistantly arise is when some newbie upsets our communal balance enough to make us fearful of having intelligent discussions.
That's a good point- fights with family are the worst fights, because both sides have a personal stake. I think the regulars here should get to say what they want to each other. Sure, I may say "shut the fuck up" to my friends in RL- they don't take it personally, but it happens around here, and suddenly it's Flame On! We should leave the really outrageous flaming for the ball-licking noobs.
Robbo, nice post man- very thoughtful, and it made me think, too. This is the kind of thing I come here for. (Well, this and bad puns from Karma).

So, I'm working late at the print shop(one of our pressman's back went to shit) and coming back and forth from the press. Is there anyone out there that has sales experience? The matriarch (on one side of the family) saleslady that's been here since we opened in '78 just retired. We've got a few leads, but nothing in concrete. Anybody out there can hold up to 105 degree summers? Sales experience is preferred. And I don't mean the 7-11 variety. Not that there's anything wrong with that :) . I thought about your store today, or rather the fact that you said you most have to play hip-hop or metal in there to avoid complaints*. I was listening to Catch 33 by Meshuggah (I just decided to buy the album and replace the downloaded one), and thinking about how much it would probably scare your customers.
*I think what you were saying is you mostly play hip-hop and metal, but the metal crowd complains when they hear hip-hip while the urban crowd doesn't complain at all.
Dammit you people where are you! this complete lack of activity is forcing me to do actual work!!!!
*I think what you were saying is you mostly play hip-hop and metal, but the metal crowd complains when they hear hip-hip while the urban crowd doesn't complain at all.
So does that mean there is a possible connection between the type of music that is listened to and the mood people are in?
Metal crowd gets irritated listening to hip-hop, is it because of the music or because the metal crowd is used to listening to an aggressive attitude and therefore it affects their reactions towards everyday life?
It could be a combination of that and maybe the hip-hop crowd is more laid back or maybe they just don't want to mess with anyone who listens to metal in fear of pissing the metal fan off, but then that would throw one's image into the whole equation... which really gets me nowhere because image is fake.
Oh, and, Hi Dave! Don't work too hard.

My summation had more to do with people's sense of entitlement. Anywhere I've worked, crackers feel like they are in the right to complain if hip-hop is on the overhead, regardless if it's the shoot 'em up type or not. Meanwhile, no one complains if the Hail Satan type metal happens to be playing. If hip-hop is on the overhead, that will heavily determine how long whitie stays in the store, but anything could be playing on the overhead if a person of color saunters in, and they would still check out our wares.
I'm trying to be subtle about asking whether or not race relations (at least in Tennessee) are as advanced as we'd like to believe, and if that has anything to do with hip-hop not being accepted by some people as a legitimate musical genre. The discussion lead no where.

*I think what you were saying is you mostly play hip-hop and metal, but the metal crowd complains when they hear hip-hip while the urban crowd doesn't complain at all.I should retract or altar my statement on that. The metal crowd doesn't complain about anything but emo, even though they've no idea what it is. It's hillarious when they go off on whiney emo kids while I've got Fugazi on the overhead, and they want to know all about the band playing now. Even better, is Sunny Day Real Estate, the band for whom the term was coined. But my absolute favorite moment is when the metal kids are all, "Let's kill emo kids," and then they ask for My Chemical Romance, which is a manufactured band chock full of every single emo cliche they claim to hate.

Sorry I didn't pick up on that.Though it is a good point.
I doubt race relations has advance much at all. I mean white supremacist still exist. I'd like to believe everyone could be colorblind when it came to skin, but some people are still brought up to believe less of someone because of the color of their skin. It really doesn't make sense to me. I just recently found out that a friend of mine believes that there should be an all white race. I asked why, and he couldn't give me anything more than a 'that's just what I believe' type of excuse.
I just don't get it. How will the human race advance if people don't look deeper into why they think the way they do? You can't get the prize from searching at the top of the cereal box.
Even better, is Sunny Day Real Estate, the band for whom the term was coined.

It seemed like any domestic would have sufficed and since Bud tastes like ass...
...and? I really want to hear this thought through to conclusion.
He should probably quit shoving the bottles up his Bunghole? I don't know.

"I couldn't really think of any Memorial Day appropriate beers."
"Uhhh, Budweiser?"
"It seemed like any domestic would have sufficed and since Bud tastes like ass..."
I was just curious where that train of thought was going.

I belive that in this case the "..." was not the trailing off of a thought, but indeed more of an expression. We all know the one, eyebrows lifted, eyes wide and face held still as the word "ass" pitches slightly upward as if to say, dumbass!

Yes, but that's not an American beer, now is it?

JJ just forgot to finish his sentence because he was puking up in his mouth at the thought of the taste. Ever notice that skunky Bud in a bottle tastes exactly like PBR in a can?

I think we're going to have a white trash party for my birthday. The wife and I also tossed around the idea of making it a white trash/dirty Mexican party, but she things that her family might get mad about that. She may go all "chola'd" out anyways.

A buddy of mine throws a ‘Spicy Food/Shitty Beer’ party every year, he has a contest for both categories. The basic rules are:
Last years entry cannot be duplicated.
You can’t bring more than a 12 pack of beer (he feels bad throwing away all that shitty beer).
Everybody must eat and drink a sample of what they brought.
A special award is also given for the cheapest 12 pack of beer (receipt is necessary to be considered for this prestigious award). I think last years winners were Steel Reserve, Habanero Mango Shrimp, and a 12’er of American Beer for just under 3$ (less than 25 cents a beer).
I almost picked up some Steel Reserve the other night. How is it?

I tend to be a generalist when it comes to life, I know a little about a lot. I usually look to an expert to help formulate a basis of opinion. When it comes to getting fucked up on a budget I trust the Hippy/Bums/Street People of Boulder cause this is all they will buy.
In other words if you like the taste of aluminum, this is the beer for you.

Never had, but I am not a fan of Belgiun beers/ales. There is one I really liked, the XXX Bitter (can't remember the producer) but for the most part they are way too sweet for my tastes.
My summer drinking beers are usually lagers and wheats. I just picked up an Oberon Dark Wheat last night, very tasty!

AHH, the Schlitz Shits.. those were the high school days..
You throw a White Trash party too? I throw one of those, but the highlight is my "Thug Life" parties.
You wear baggy close, fake jewelry, drink 40s of Olde English or Colt 45 out of a paper bag, and hourly everyone does a shot of Crown Royal or J&B. Usually the night ends up listening to and enjoying Cyprus Hill.
You could have a K-Fed party where you do all that, but end the night by writing your own crappy rap songs.
Pa-pa-Zow!!

If I remember right, they used to sell cases of that for $8?
We used to drink alot of 40s of Steel Reserve back before Justin joined the Navy. With my crappy fake ID I would go in and buy 8 40s with three guys waiting in the car for me. I'm sure that didn't look suspicious at all.
And yes, Steel Reserve suuuucks. Tastes like the high gravity version of Old E. Bleh!

"Whats up with today, today?"
So I was just wondering how we got all these new people who actually seem to want to stay and contribute... What's up with that? I am all for it, but what are we going to do when we want to rip into the peons that have a lower post count than us? I mean, they must know less if they have a lower post count right? (RB, I am looking for confirmation here).
Also, TLS, happy 2000.
