View Full Version : Initial reviews for X2 pretty positive

Both Variety's and Hollywood Reporter's reviews came out today, both are positive. The Variety one I can't link ya to, because Variety is a pay-subscription website, but basically it said it is a vast improvement on the first (twice as good, as the title would indicate Todd McCarthy said), though it is a bit too long. Hollywood Reporter (which you can read at http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hollywoodreporter/reviews/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1875065) just plain old liked it - and said it may even give Matrix a run for its money. NICE.
Hope it's good. I'm really looking forward to it, X-Men United subtitle regardless.

That is great news. I loved the first one (minus the ending) so I am very excited about this one. I am trying not to become too excited about it because it could disappoint me like Spider-Man did and then I will cry. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
There is a great preview at Yahoo for the movie that might be a good read for those of us who loved the comics (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&id=1808406654&cf=prev).

I'm not really a fan of the X-Men but you better believe I'll be seeing this as soon as possible.

All dug it, and said it was better than the original. Chud.com called it "the best superhero movie ever made." I've yet to read a negative review.

I'll be going to see it on monday. I hope its okay I wasn't too fond of the original. Might depends who remains from the original, darth maul as toad was a wasted effort in the first film and they didn't really go into depth over the wolverine/sabretooth rivalry. Anyway there is hope for this one.

Neither Toad or Sabretooth are in the sequel.

Comics into movies... Can't wait! I wouldn't miss it for the world. Except if it's horrible sequel that's equal to Mortal Kombat Annihilation/forums/images/icons/mad.gif. But I'm sure that can't happen.

I liked Spider-Man. Even though it wasn't as true to the comic as it could have been. And I wish the movie would have been darker. Kinda like the first Batman. But the plot problems really come from time restrictions and how much plot you can assemble into an hour and a half movie. (Still wishes it was Gwenn Stacey instead of Mary Jane). But overall I still loved the movie. But then again I'm bias about the movie because I used to always read the comics.

It deserves the bad-mouthing. I consider that movie the Emperors new clothes. Someone sold his soul to the devil to get that movie to make $400 million in the US.
The Matrix is 10 times better and most people know how I feel about that movie.

[/ QUOTE ] I hated the first film myself, and I dubbed this one "mortal kombat anal lotion" cause it reeked that badly.
Razorback; I like spiderman, more than the matrix, its a good action movie annd it uses bullet time effects lol. Anyway its the best Dafoe movie I've seen and I've seen speed 2, maybe you should watch that instead, or maybe you just want to watch pure cheese and go watch Fast and the Furious where everyone is like "acting lessons????? who needs them?"
except michelle rodriguez, shes nice in that butch dominant woman sort of way.

Oh my God... it's not anyones best movie. In fact, I thought Dafoe sucked ass in it. He was the major reason for me not liking it. Over-acting and really not taking his part seriously... yuck. What are they putting in the popcorn at theaters that makes people like junk?

he was just having a good time on set, okay he killed the film slightly but that helped retain some of the comic book charm (where was parkers well timed quips?) at least it borrowed from a mixture of comics plots, but as good as the storylines were, its like drink, you have good ones, mix them all for a big orgy cocktail, and you'll probably feel sick by the end, and well. overall its still one of the better film adaptions of comics out there.

I don't know... you may have a point but I still did not like the movie.

Razor, I'd be very surprised if you find X2 lacking...IMO they really did a great job, with only a few instances (maybe 5%) of so-so material/dialog. And yes I realize I'm opening myself up to a lifetime of ridicule from you if I'm wrong...

Cool. I saw Identity last night and absolutely loved it so I am hoping for a back to back love fest. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Yeah, there were occasional weak spots of dialog, but you could get throught them by coming down from how cool something else just was. They got "BAMF" down, too.

I kept saying "BAMF!" in my head over and over. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Three of my favorite characters are Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Cyclops and all of them are impressive so far.
Of course another character has yet to make herself seen... but she will clearly be in the next one. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

So then I assume it's safe to show my face (figuratively) around here again after giving my glowing recommendation? Glad to see you all feel the same way about it...Got ya beat Razor...Just finished my third viewing...

I think the movie was excellent! I walked out with a smile on my face. It's too bad they didn't explain anything about how Logan and Lady Death Strike had been an item long back. But I guess there was time constrictions. I loved seeing the name Remy LeBeau in the list of mutants. Hopefully that is a small hint that he will be in X3. Gambit was definately one of my most favorite in the comics. Also one of the Doctors on TV was Henry McCoy (Beast). That will kick ass if he's in the next one too. If you missed those two things pay close attention to catch them next time you watch it.
But over all Nightcrawler was the shit. God I love comics. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I tell ya, can Alan Cumming act or what? I still haven't seen that guy do a bad job. I would liked to have seen Beast in there. Still a great summer movie non the less.

[/ QUOTE ] At the San Diego Comicon last summer, Bryan Singer said he wanted to put Beast in one, too. He just didn't have room in this one. He said he's hoping to put him in X3. So patience, my dear man...

I think I will stop at 2. That way the movie stays "new" in my mind until I get the DVD.
