...or people in the mid-west Michigan area. I want to find out who is around who would want to do some sort of get together. Enough being jealous of the California poopers always getting to do the cool stuff. Efexeye and I have talked about it and it would be cool if we could maybe make something happen too.

Ideas? Takers?

Matthew
12-11-2003, 12:32 AM
Karma, how far in midwest Michigan are we talking?

I live in mideastern Minnesota, right near the Wisconsin/MN border.

karmattack
12-11-2003, 12:34 AM
Eh, might be a little far for you. I basically meant people who wouldn't find it inconvenient to drive to Detroit or that area.

I'm near Flint and I-69, US-23, and I-75 all basically converge in that area if that's better.

I'm thinking we could have a viewaskew moviethon and hangout or something -- just trying to throw the idea out and see what happens.

Matthew

I wouldn't mind a weekend out there, I love to drive and visit places I have never seen!

Awesome. Sounds like something might be shaping up.

Efexeye

Cool- I'm definitely down- I have Christmas break coming up for school, and I have from the 19th to the 5th of January off, without anything really to do except get fat- I have an air mattress and a nice view for people who might want to stay overnight. Let's do this!

Matthew
12-11-2003, 08:04 AM
What specific city are we talking about? So I can check mapquest for directions/mileage to said city ?

Efexeye
12-11-2003, 08:23 AM
Detroit. The city of Detroit. Not Allen Park, or Canton, or Grosse Pointe, or Ferndale, but downtown Detroit.

The exact street address, if you are mapquesting it, is 1301 Orleans, Detroit, MI, 48207.

karmattack
12-11-2003, 09:57 AM
Awesome. It looks like we could assemble a small crew here. Um, now we just need to come up with a plan. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

There's always goofing around in the Greektown area -- bars, casino and such -- and then having our own Kevin Smith screening.
Affleckie and Efexeye, you both know Detroit better than I do.

Efexeye
12-11-2003, 10:03 AM
Yeah, plenty to do in the D- lots of music, casinos (although this teacher might not be able to swing gambling, the buffets are awesome) and nightlife to see. I wouldn't mind everyone just getting together and then figuring out what we're going to do- but making advance plans is sweet too. I know there are Michigan peeps out there- sound off!

karmattack
12-11-2003, 10:13 AM
just to get this out there, my vote is against the casinos too; I only mentioned the idea because most people I know like to go there. I don't gamble personally.

It was warmer up here today than it has been in the past 2 weeks. Plus there was finally a little sun. The funny part is everybody complaining about how they are FREEZING to death all the time, and I think it is balmy in the 60's.

FanGirl
12-11-2003, 04:29 PM
You forget I'm from Chicago. I used to not put on anything heavier than a sweatshirt unless it dropped below 30. It is a bit breezy out today. So maybe jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt.

Matthew
12-11-2003, 06:29 PM
KEWL It's under 700 miles, so I can make it there on 2 takes of gas, and like, 9 hours or so.

That would be a fun roadtrip!

I wasn't so sure, but since Afflekie is coming I have GOT to be there! (kidding)

I am not sure if I can anytime before the 10th though, with Christmas and such.

My birthday is the 23 (January), so we could all throw ME a party!

Denyse

But it's not in the 60's, it's in the 50's...And I'm old, so my blood is thinner. And It's really windy and my hair won't stay where I put it. And all of my warm turtlenecks are in the laundry.
/forums/images/icons/grin.gif Can I come up and play in the lettuce with you?

Oh, cry me a river, 50's.....We were 23 degrees with the windchill in Detroit today, with snow on the way tomorrow. You West Coasters get cold if it drops below 70.....

FanGirl
12-11-2003, 06:39 PM
I survived 21 Chicago winters including one blizzard. My dad didn't believe in snow blowers nor my sister shoveling plus I had to do ours, our eldery neighbors and then drive over and do my grandmothers. I think I've deserved some warm climate for a while. I do miss having actual weather every now and then.

I was so pissed that after I moved out here and then they came out with the flannel and fleece lined jeans. Where the hell were they when I'm waiting for a bus at 2am when it was below zero? I bought a pair for my sister who still lives there. She loves them. Cuts the wind and are so freaking comfortable.

OK, I'll cop to the fact that I'm being a big baby, especially since I LOVE cold weather normally, but the office I moved into has no heat so I can't ever get warm.

But what about you, E? Lately you seem a might on the crabby side yourself. Now, I love you like a board-brother, but your recent posts seem a bit off somehow...You got a reindeer stuck up your butt?

Efexeye
12-11-2003, 06:55 PM
No, I guess I'm just feeling my oats. Get it? Old Hand? Oats? No? Damn, I AM the Unfunny Comic.

Seriously though, I try to balance out my dick side with an intelligent contribution here and there- I just like swinging away at people who set themselves up. I really care about the board- I don't give a fuck what my rank is, but I do care that the board is more than just a place to praise Jay and Bob and then go rub one out at some obscure porn site.

So, sorry if I've offended anyone- I try to give credit to intelligent newbies, too, not just smear the idiots. Check out my record- I think it will bear itself out.

Hell, until lately, I didn't even think anyone read MY posts. Plus, I left the windows in my apartment open today because a friend of mine left a smoke burning in a plastic bag under my sink last night and the house reeked. Then, when I get home from work, my house is like 40 degrees. Here it is 3 hours later, and I'm still freezing my nuts off. So, I gues it's not so much the reindeer up my ass (that's a whole other topic) as the ice cubes dangling from my ankles. Sorry if I rubbed anyone the wrong way! (Except the stupid newbies. Because I hate those guys so very, very much.)

I guess you are right, it is in the 50's. Feels warmer when it isn't raining all day.

How about we check out a restaraunt, maybe a bar or two in the Downtown area, then hit my place for a screening? I wouldn't mind checking out Pirates of the Carribbean again, either....then, we can all go to Windsor (Canada) for hookers and bong tokes! (I kid, I kid....)

You know. I haven't had a vacation in about three years since I have worked at the newspaper. This sounds really fun. And I get paid that weekend, so maybe I will think about driving up there. If you all don't mind a west coaster crashing the party. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Now, come on, all you "West Coasters" really mean Southern Californians. What about us in the soggy Northwest? I did my time in L.A. and went north up I-5, but no one invites me anywhere. Sob.

Well, I would have attended, but I had a sneaking suspicion that it was all just an elaborate ruse to kidnap and sell me off to a fabulously wealthy Middle-Eastern Prince with a predilection for lithe, nubile, handsome young men. But of course, I think that every time I get invited somewhere.

Yeah Karma, that shit was a little *lays hand flat and tilts it from side to side* if ya know what I mean...

EDIT: so as not to post twice in a row to the same thread, I'll just edit. The Pistons are in town Friday the 16th and Monday the 19th, too (Martin Luther King Jr. day), so, maybe that could be on the itinerary. I think you can go for like 15 bucks.
