My nominees are
The haunting, remember this on the genesis? you played the role of polterguy and you had to jump into various items trying to scare the various family members out of the house, you also got ectoplasm for big scares which you had to keep levels up otherwise you go to the otherside and have to make your way back. It might be good using sims style graphics as the original was an isometric. also a little easier, more varied levels so u can pick where to go? perhaps.

another I'd like to see would be Streets of rage, just think of all the possibilities, shedloads of characters, fluid animation (2D naturally, not a 3D side scroller) larger levels, combos etc, basically same as it ever was only much bigger and more varied enemies.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

Go ahead, ignore it.

Streets of Rage was good. You know what game I'd like to play a souped up version of? Bionic Commando. You had that great claw arm that you could use to swing around with and you were swinging around the place shooting evildooers. A 3D version a la the Spider-Man: Movie game could be a lot of fun.

I'd really like to see a next-gen version of Super Dodge Ball. Since it was from an isometric perspective it would be great as a 3-D game.

Another great one would be Battle Toads. It was based on fighting but had tons of variety. I mean, the whole rappeling stage was completely unique, and some of the other concepts like the battles from the boss's perspective were all great because the control was flawless. An update to that game would be a great revival.

where did strider go? i miss sidescrollers. i might be old, but games these days are just too complicated for me. i could handle having good graphics if we just had a new sidescroller. where is the metroid/super mario bros/chip 'n dales rescue rangers of our generation? or even rygar? i miss easy games

Isn't the new (fairly new) Contra game a side-scroller?

The game Rome on the Amiga 500 deserves a sequel. It's my favourite RPG ever. You start off as a slave and through murder and deceit become Emperor of the Roman Empire.

Rygar has already been redone. I loved it on the old NES, but I haven't tried the revamped version.

I wish Lucas' video game company would remake some of its graphic adventures like, The Dig, Day of the Tentacle, and Sam & Max!!!

I want to see a next-gen version of the Shining Force series that was on the Genesis. Those two are my favorite RPG's ever.

I know that there were releases on the Japanese Saturn and probably the Sega CD, but they were hard to get. I'm thinking new, updated ones.

I would love a remake of Yar's Revenge, just to find out why a fly is trying to eat a brick wall.

Another Maniac Mansion would be soooo sweet.

A game that should be revamped, a good joe montana football that was on genisis. Or a [censored] sequel to the X-men game on genisis. Sequels should be made for ps2, x-box, or PC.

i know they made an x-men accademy, but anyonewho hd genisis, know the x-men im talkking about....

Dave

Another Yar's Revenge fan? What a kickass game that was.
The game i'd like to see remade is Road Rash from the Sega Genesis. When i was in college i used to play that game non-stop. Drinking and Driving and beating up other Motorcycle riders DO mix!

COBi

Chaos Engine! I know they made 2 but they should be out for PC. Also games like gaunlet are in short supply and shouldn't be. At times like these i miss my Atari!

Omaru

wow another atari fan, they should bring back Speedball, Xenon and blood money as well, what else, umm.. Another leisure suit larry (joke)

they should bring out a version of duoble dragon on the ps2 or anyother of the next gen consoles, man that game kicked ass.

05-02-2003, 04:03 AM
A couple of games come to mind. First, what about Castlevania? That kicked booty. Since there's an Atari thread, how about Space Invaders.....ahhh, the memories. My last game, which isn't much of a game is Paper Boy...I think that's the name...where you had to get the paper in the mailbox.

COBi
05-02-2003, 09:32 AM
YES blood money was quality! Double dragon would be cool and they could even add more moves. Also one that my bro played alot Turrican. That was cool.

Ah, one of my fave topics here...i may do another rant column on game remakes...

Anyway, there is a new Castlevania game coming out this fall for PS2 (there's also been a few GBA games, the newest due out next week). Ninja Gaiden, Rygar, Shinobi, and Contra all got remade last year, but only Contra was as cool as the original (stayed a side scroller, and, even better, was just as hard as the original, and still used the Konami code!)

They made some Road Rash sequels for PSOne, but they weren't much to speak of. Road Rash 3-D stunk, and Road Rash jailbreak was awful. They need to do one like the old Sega CD/3DO game, i played that til my hands bled...

A game that i'd love to see on PS2/Xbox/Gamecube that will NEVER come out (mainly b/c they'll prolly screw it up) is SNATCHER, my all time fave game (see my first review for details). They remade it on import Saturn & PSOne, but they were edited down, deleted the violense and stuff, and the graphics were actually pretty cruddy when compaired to te definative Sega CD US version. If you've never played this game, seek out the emulation online. Quite awesome.

Another game that deserves to be remade is Kid Icarus. I mean, Nintendo is remaking ALL their old staples, it seems, why not this one? I loved this game back in the day...

Enough ranting from me...

You are one of my favorite people here now. Shining Force was godlike in it's fun factor (this coming from someone who hates a lot of RPG's) The problem here would be that if they remade SF, they'd probably go for all the slick ass graphics and ruin the rest of the game (like in the newer Final Fantasy games) If they stuck with the simple graphics but expanded the levels, included more characters and spells and of course, brought back that cute little turtle guy that gets super freaking tough when you get him promoted a few times, the game would be on the top of my list.

Also, I have to add that Tetris needs to come back, not any of that stupid N64 Tetris shit, I mean the kind of Tetris that you can go to an arcade and play or the kind of Tetris that you can turn on your old NES and play, no changes, just Tetris!

Shawnathan
05-02-2003, 12:27 PM
I love it when people acknowledge my existence. (I'm looking at YOU, Mom and Dad.)

I totally understand what you're saying about the dangers of remaking this game. The thing that I loved about this game so much was the replay factor. There were so many characters that you could use in your army that you couldn't possibly use them all. So, switch out the characters on the next game. Man, I wish my genesis still worked. I'm getting a major jonesing for this.

not any of that stupid N64 Tetris shit

[/ QUOTE ]

I assume you're talking about Tetrisphere, which was, yeah, shit, but N64's The New Tetris was quite awesome. It had the option to just play plain old Tetris, but it also had the option to play plain old Tetris 4-player! If you've ever played Tetrinet you know how much fun that can be. Of course TNT was a rather rare game so if you ever see it in a bargain bin somewhere, I recommend picking it up.

As for Paperboy, that had a revival on the N64 late in its life so no one really ever saw it, but I rented it once and it actually had the same arcady-type fun to it. It had the formula down well, but it also had these stupid boss battles that had nothing to do with the game. Otherwise a fun little title. Its one of the few revivals that doesn't over do it on adding next-generation concepts.

I unfortunately don't remember the name of the game that I think should be remade. It was about a boy who loses his frog and it gets all radioactive. And what happens when things get radioactive...they get huge. So this boy goes on a mission to find this frog and he's got this fancy car and it can go underwater and ... Anybody else remember this game? I can't look for it online because the stupid government computers won't let me go to game websites.

Shawnathan

masterblaster is the name of the game that you are thinking of.

DarthMaulRat
05-02-2003, 01:26 PM
Yeah, i know what you're talking about now. The game was like a platformer when you were in the car and an overhead shooter when you got out and went in doors. You got the name right but it's backwards, its Blaster Master. That was a kickin' game for the NES, my one friend has a cart of it.

You know, for Gameboy Gargoyle's Quest was a terrific game. Probably the best game I had for Gameboy. I'd like to see that one come back, but in color.

However, with all the Star Wars games that were made, my favorite to this day was the old old old arcade game, where you were in the X-wing and made a run on the Death Star. It had terrible graphics with the wire framing, but I loved that game. I know it came out for the Commodor 64, but no one has those anymore.

There is another game I was thinking of, but I'll remember it when I have coffee.

jjcourtright
05-02-2003, 01:45 PM
Yeah, MasterBlaster. That game ruled. It was also single-handedly the most difficult game ever made. It was completely umpossible. Did anybody ever get past the fourth level?

COBi
05-02-2003, 01:57 PM
Did any one ever have rainbow island? That was classy i'll never forget the hours of practice it took for me to beat the vampire boss.
Also Rod land- i think thats what it was called, two player game with a pink haired and a blue haired dude. More games for 2 or more players should be made GAUNLET why did that die?

you obviously haven't played gauntlet: dark legacy. that game rocks.

oh, and i did get the name backwards. my bad. i am so rap.

how about little nemo: the dream master, or a boy and his blob?

A boy and his blob was fun I remember that game.

I would like to see a new Toe Jam & Earl, and Tetris Attack.

I agree about all the shitty tetris and similar puzzle games for the n64. I remember one esp. bad one having to do with water, but I've blocked the name from my memory.

I'd love too see arevival of all the old Sierra games

King's Quest, Space Quest, and of course Lesiure Suit Larry

... btw, they get NO props for having the original "survivor horror" games with the
old Laura Bow games!

Okay, true enough, nest tetris. They also released that game for PS and I tried playing "normal Tetris" on it but the points were all different and tthey didn't have the original music. I want my original tetris, none of this bastardized shit that keeps coming out.

Omaru

Forget nes tetris, tetris isn't tetris without the russian theme tune from the gameboy.

Sorry, is that what your sig is from?
Anyway, Nes tetris will always be better than GB Tetris wether or not it has the Russian music.

Omaru
05-04-2003, 07:02 PM
yeah I borrowed 80% of my sig from that song.

Another game I want re-released (not remade, just re-released) is full throttle, it would tie in perfectly as a budget game when the sequal comes out later this year. And updated slightly so it has support for modern sound cards. that used to be one of my favourite point n click games.

In the vein of good ole beat em' up games:

What ever happened to the Ninja Turtles game that was supposed to come out? I remember Jon Woo bought the rights to TMNT and wanted to make a movie, and then Konami relinquished the rights for a game. I suppose Woo sold the rights or his contract expired because I haven't heard anything on the movie for a long time. But why does that have to stop the game?

TMNT The Arcade Game was one of the greatest beat em' ups that actually came on consoles, and Turtles in Time was also great.

How about a port of the X-Men arcade game? I probably spent more quarters on that 2-screen machine than any other arcade game.

Omaru
05-05-2003, 06:31 PM
get ready for a series of teenage mutant ninja turtles games based on the re-vamped cartoon which aired in february on fox over there (I didn't like it personally), but I noticed it borrowed more from the film but lost some of its overall charm.
Anyway the original side scrolling beat em up games were pretty good.

I wish someone would remake Elite properly.

Frontier and First Encounters were too complicated to be enjoyable. Just update the grpahics, chuck in a few more missions and make it multi-player. That's all I ask.
