Karma's posting of the box from "A Christmas Story" made me remember that my grandmother when to school with Jean Sheperd, the guy that wrote "A Christmas Story". So, what crappy claims to fame do you all have?
My other one is that Kevin Costner is somehow related to me. I believe that he is my Great-grandmother's cousin.

Nicole Brown Simpson went to my mom and my aunt's old high school.
Umm... my claim to fame is I am related to Ulysses S. Grant. I think he is like my great (times 10) uncle.

If you're ever near Plymouth, check out the little keychains with all the families who came over on the Mayflower. Yep, we can trace our family back to one of those families--the Lathams! A proud heritage indeed /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

My girlfriend's dad lived next to Michael Moore, who I met once shopping at the mall.
Umm.... I am somehow related to Terry Lebonte. Damned Nascar.
Also, my sister's best friend from high school was Jill Weatherwax...the one and only Miss Hollywood. There is actually an E! True Hollywood Story about her because she was murdered. It's extremely weird to think about.
BUT, and this is most important, she knew Ron Jeremy. So my ultimate claim to fame is that there's only one degree of separation between me and The Hedgehog!!

Oh wow, I have lots of these.
1) My great great .....I don't know how many times.....Uncle was on the Mayflower and signed the Compact (name: *something* Priest...dont remember his first name)
2) My grandpa lived on the same block as Chi Chi Rodriguez when he lived in Puerto Rico, for those of you who don't know who that is, he's a professional golfer, really old guy.
3) My dad was almost a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, didn't make it because he couldn't find a 3rd sponser. DAMMIT! I WOULD HAVE BEEN HELLA RICH! Instead of the poor mofo that I am now.
4) Another great uncle of mine created the Chevy symbol
5) ANOTHER great uncle of mine was the Missourian senator that came up with the state nickname (the Show Me state) well...he's credited for the quote that it came from "I'm from Missouri, so you'll have to show me."
I think this is it....oh yeah.....and also Randy Moss (Minnesota Vikings) was signing autographs in the Wal Mart the next town over when I was there once, and I was standing right behind him and just thought he was some random INSANELY tall guy wearing a Vikings jersey, until I was in the electronics and I heard that over the loud speaker that he was signing autographs.....it was weird. NOW its it....I think. Damn, I might as well just be famous.

I went to the same high school as the Marshall Tucker Band.
A guy I used to live with's band opened a show for Jets to Brazil this summer.
Reese Witherspoon's mom comes into the Blockbuster I used to work for, as well as Amy Grant and husband Vince Gill.
I've had a beer with Dan Baird of the Georgia Sattelites.
I've had a beer with professional wrestler and former ECW TV champion Kid Kash.
I'm sure there are more considering this town, but these are just the ones that are off the top of my head.

That reminded me... my football helmet is in the Cool and the Gang's "Victory" video. They filmed the video in my high school (the video was based around a basketball game) and they forgot to take my helmet out of the locker room when they filmed a scene there. I had left it on top of my locker and when I saw the video there it was. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Lucas Haas , Probably best known as the little Amish boy in "Witness" also the guy that Saved the day with Tom Jones' music in " Mars Attacks " Played Keyboards for a local band (Austin ) in 93 94' Called "Saviour Soul " Those guys were great but they never "made it" , used to hang with 'em after shows at the "Black Cat " back when the "Black Cat" was cool.
Dated a girl who worked for the Austin Film Society 2002/03 . Was in the same room With the great Kevin Smith but didn't want to be that guy who comes up and interupts the conversation to say something stupid like I love your work or make some stupid J&Sb reference , he did however give me an acknowledgement nod from across the room.
Met Quentin Tarantino the same way , Letcherous Bastard was hitting my girlfriend trying to get her to go back to his hotel room, but I still like his movies.
Shared elevators with George W., Anne Richards and Jerry Jones.
Working with my grandfathers Sprinkler Crew , installed an irrigation system for Lee Roy Jordan. Really nice guy .
One of my best friends will be in the upcoming " Alamo" (unlees his scene gets cut) with Dennis Quaid, Although his title will be " Mexican soldier on horse " or something to that effect.
Met and bowled and drank with Diamond (Dimebag)Darrel at Sparetime lanes in Arlington Summer 1990
Hows that for lame claims to fame .

I have a bunch...
1. My grandmother worked for one of Capone's men who made his whiskey labels. She met Capone once..sort of...he was hiding in a bathroom and she said hello through the door.
2. I have been quoted several times about the Phantom Edit in the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, etc. in an article where Lucas was quoted only once. (Sadly it was under my Alias name)
3. My apartment was previously occupied by Martin Lawrence before he got his show.
4. One of my friends lived across the hall from Jenna Elfman and hubby when she was on Townies. Another friend lived in the same building as Jennifer Love Hewitt.
5. One of my best friends is solely repsonsible for re-editing all the Sex and The City episodes for syndication. This same friend has been in Sheryl Crow's house where she kidded him about stealing her silverware to sell on ebay. He has been on tour with Best of Seven and hung out with Dwezil Zappa.
6. One of my friends has appeared on, wrote one episode and wrote a novel for the ABC Series Alias.
7. Mick Jager asked me how it was going once. Michael DeBarres always made a point to say hello to me when I passed him on the set. I made Andy Garcia laugh once by saying "If God didn't want us to eat animals, he shouldn't have made them out of meat."
8. I was flipped off my Sam Waterson (Law and Order) when I cut him off. I almost ran over Matthew Perry when he was jay walking across the street.
9. My dad is one of the only people ever beeped on Good Morning America when he appeared in the 80s to discuss the hostage/terrorist situation in the Middle East.
10. And last but not least, the first thing Gillian Anderson said to me was and I quote..."And who the hell are you?" After I had helped her dad shoot a documentary. She asked where he went. I told her to the car to put the tripod away and then that's what she said to me.

1. Ali Campbell (singer of UB40) used to own a house 15 mins away from me.
2. Parminda K Nagra (bend it like beckham) performed in a play for my school in 1997.
3. One of my mom's friends is a TV extra who makes annual appearances on the same show's (E.G: hospital show he'll be dying or be a relative of a patient, or a cop show he'll be a victim or a criminal.)

Hmmm...
I have a few "crappy claims to fame"! Or whatever you want to call it.
Off the top of my head...
I'm distantly related to Bruce Lee.
I had family in the "Fighting 69th" Irish regiment of NYC, in the civil war. For instance, they defended the Capitol in Washington D.C.
Bugsy Segal was a "family friend" and best man at a family members wedding. Pre-Las Vegas.
I've met almost all of the "Reservoir Dogs" (at different times).
Had a conversation with Willem Dafoe.
My Ex-drummer is/was the Drummer for "Hole", not the orig. drummer by the way...
My Sister is a very well known D.J. and "personality"
In the NYC scene.

I've had tons of them, but I'll go for the sentimental favorite...When I was little, I went to school with John Wayne's two youngest children. His youngest daughter was a pretty close friend. I would go over to their house for play dates on occasion and frequently Mr. Wayne would be home. He always greeted me with a "and how are you doin' today, little lady?" in true western style. His home was the only home I've been in with an Oscar on the mantle and his is the only funeral for a famous person I've been invited to or attended.

My great-great-great uncle co-wrote Silent Night.
My cousin produced "Big Bird in Japan." Not that big a deal, really, but Muppetty.
One of my good friends was nominated for a Pulitzer, and is co-writing the sequel to Wiseguys (AKA Goodfellas) with Henry Hill.
I've sat down for a few beers with Gary Sinese, William Atherton (Walter Peck), Emily Bergyl (Carrie 2, and I was doin' okay...) and Mary McCormack (who only mentioned she had a boyfriend when he showed up, two hours into the conversation. D'oh!)
I also hit on Winona Ryder, but after about fifteen mintues thought better of it after about ten minutes because she looked too young. I found out the next day who it was, when she was on the news talking about meeting some "cool, funny people" at the sreening we were at (Rocky Horror, and I was a notorious flirt.)

An uncle of mine was a vaudeville comedian and then a standup/troupe type guy all through the 50s and 60s. Animation nuts would know him as the voice of "Baby Huey." He's still alive, and still does the odd role or commercial - he was recently in that ALF 1-800-COLLECT commercial with the old guy and the hot young girlfriend.

Resurrecting an old thread: Kind of a very crappy claim to fame, but more just kind of cool. The contractor that runs 99% of the building that I work in, is doing a lot of the armoring of Humvee's, so we have a lot of nationwide news organizations coming to see what is going down.
So, if you see some news of Humvee's being armor-ized, chances are good that you are seeing the building that I work in.

*Look at the Declaration of Independence. Find the really big, sloppy signature Step. Hopkins. Ancestor. His brother, Ezek Hopkins was the first Secretary of the Navy. Both were drunks (hence the shaky penmanship) and it is said that if any business needed to get done, you'd better do it before lunch.
*Buddy Dial was a professional football player in the 1950s and 1960s. He is a distant cousin.
*George McMillan was the Lt. Governor of Alabama during Fob James' first term. He is married to my cousin Ann.
*I met Tino Martinez and got to hold his 1988 Gold Medal. He went to my high school.
*Luis Gonzalez was the older brother of a friend of mine in high school (he also went to my high school) and I met him at several parties. He is much nicer than his younger brother. Looooou hit the single that drove in the winning run for the Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series.
*I was friends with the current governor of Alabama's daughter in college. I sang I'm A Little Teapot with a maxipad stuck to my forehead in his older daughter's apartment as a hazing ritual. She was Homecoming Queen at UA.

Yeah I got nothin.
George Jones' youngest son used to live next door back in Texas- back in the 80's when George was hiding from the IRS, he was there at Jeffery's for a few weeks. I was playing outside when the grand-daughter came out and asked if wanted to see her grandfather- we went inside and there he was- passed out on the couch... a living legend, sort of...

*Met Rita Rudner and Damon Wayons at a New York comedy club when I was in high school.
*Met Evel Knievel on an airplane.
*My daughter sat next to the wrestler Goldberg on an airplane and told him all about herself. He must be a really nice guy to listen to a five year old for an hour and a half.
*My cousin's husband is the doctor who invented the Pulse Oximeter. Everytime they say "What's his pulse ox?" on ER, that's what they are talking about.
*George Lucas lives down the street from my Aunt Effie in San Anselmo. She says he's a really nice guy.
*My cousin Ann (daughter of the ex-Lt. Gov.) used to work for George Lucas and her ex boyfriend, Fisher, was an extra in a bar scene in The Phantom Menace...I think. Now, she works for Steven Speilberg.
*We rented the medical equipment to the production company for the movie Cocoon. The only thing that showed up in the movie was the Hippocratic Oath that is hanging about 5 feet from my head.

1. Since this thread was resurrected, I thought I'd add one more claim to fame...I was to be a passenger on the ill fated PanAm 103 flight that blew up over Lockerbee, Scotland. I was bumped off the flight because I got chicken pocks (at the ripe old age of 22) and was barred from flying until my fever broke and I was deemed no longer contageous. I was to be flying home from England for Christmas (I was living in London at the time) and at this time of year, I am always reminded that I'm technically living on borrowed time. I still have the ticket stub, a fact that freaks some people out.
2. I was an extra in Gigli and 3 more of the worst 10 films of 1993...But that's more of a claim to infamy, isn't it? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I would, but it gives a lot of personal info. I don't mind the regulars seeing it, but I'm still a little leery about putting personal info on the web. Strangely though, the site features a picture of Jay and Silent Bob, an Army of Darkness poster, and multiple other inappropriate pictures (movies, tv, music, etc., not porn), yet they still chose it. I won a $1,000 scholarship and an oversized trophy. Unfortunately, the contestants I (and my fellow classmates who placed 2nd and 3rd) beat happened to be the same town our basketball team is going against in sectionals, so they turned it into a big "we beat 'em" thing at our pep session today. I fucking hate school spirit. I'm sick and tired of athletics being the center of a school. Anyways, that's about all of the story. Oh, I also got $50 from my parents and $100 from my dad's boss. I'm leaving in just a sec to buy a new CD, and I plan on getting GTA: Vice City Stories for PS2 on Tuesday when it comes out. Nice one. Also, just a follow up to my last post, I didn't end up buying a CD. I got pissed off (rather quickly) at Wal-Mart and instead decided to pick up the Special Edition of The Departed. I loved it in theaters and couldn't wait any longer to get it (I usually wait to get DVDs used at my local rental store for $10, but they didn't buy the Special Edition anyway, so I would have gotten the bare-bones edition plus had to wait another couple weeks). That annoys the shit out of me, and I've noticed it happening more and more - single disc dvds being realeased along with the double-disc versions. In and of itself it's fine because not everybody is interested in dvd extras, but then when it comes time to sell them at a reduced price they only sell the single disc version, while the double-disc just dissappers from the shelves. I completely agree. What happened to the good old days when everything was marked "Special Edition" and all the big movies only had double-disc versions? I have to say, though, The Departed was pretty much worth the price. I knew the movie was great (and was reminded of it's greatness as it finished up around 2 a.m.), but the extra features are actually pretty impressive. Two 20+ minute documentaries on the film and an hour and a half Turner Classic Movies profile of Scorsese (Scorsese on Scorsese).

Dark Helmet lives.
The villain of the 1987 Mel Brooks movie Spaceballs may be primed for a return as MGM and Brooksfilms Limited, in association with G4 and Berliner Film Companie, prepare an animated series based on the film. SCTV vet Rick Moranis played the character in the movie.
The pilot is being written by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, a longtime Brooks collaborater who worked on the Spaceballs movie and who will oversee writing for the series. Meehan has also worked with Brooks on the smash musical version of Brooks' film The Producers.
Spaceballs starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Daphne Zuniga, Moranis, and Brooks in a story that parodied many sci-fi films, chief among them Star Wars. The film grossed $38 million domestically.

I really wish that they could solve Jill Weatherwas murder. Next year will be ten years. Very sad story!!
Birdie
My girlfriend's dad lived next to Michael Moore, who I met once shopping at the mall.
Umm.... I am somehow related to Terry Lebonte. Damned Nascar.
Also, my sister's best friend from high school was Jill Weatherwax...the one and only Miss Hollywood. There is actually an E! True Hollywood Story about her because she was murdered. It's extremely weird to think about.
BUT, and this is most important, she knew Ron Jeremy. So my ultimate claim to fame is that there's only one degree of separation between me and The Hedgehog!![/QUOTE]

Did either of you attempt to beat the moron out of him with a baseball bat?
