<font color="green"> Oh man, I love Ocarina of Time that has been my favorite game of all time since I was about 10....or however old I was when it came out. But I frickin love that game. I've been playing Wind Waker, but its just not the same. I like the cell shading and all, but its just not Link to me. Don't get me wrong I love Wind Waker its a good game, but Ocarina is so much better. </font color>

Those Pokemon games are dangerously addictive. After a while you develop a nervous twitch and keep repeating "Gotta catch em all, gotta catch em all" over and over.

I second " Rogue Squadron" .The game that probably sucked the most Hours away from my life, however was the original " Doom " .

Gotta vote GTA, all of them sucked enough of my life away except the second one. Pokemon the first couple of games were playable, but in terms of RPG's out at the time I was playing the Final fantasy games more.

Ocarina, easily. It represents Nintendo at its best, breaking new ground and simultaneously perfecting it. The game is enjoyable from beginning to end, because of its well crafted learning curve. Actually, I spent the most amount of gameplay hours with Perfect Dark, which would have to be my No. 1 multiplayer title.

ratm1966

I've played the hell out of that game on PC and was wondering if was any good on the Gamecube. Sometimes the games just don't play as well on other platforms. Maybe I just can't get used to the change up in the controls. Speaking of Gamecube- Metroid Prime is the best FPS I've ever played.

Games that start out on PCs are normally dumbed down when they are converted to game consoles. Game consoles still can't compute as fast as a PC yet.

Bionic Commando, beyatches.

The GTA series are my personal favorites....but I have to admit that Micro Machines for Nin 64 is one of the best games to play when beer and company are involved.

Edit: Goldeneye stole my youth, so I have to give it some respect too. Splinter Cell is a favorite and I've played Ocarina of Time from beginning to end three times. GTA still owns though.

Ilovepapasmurf: you never heard of super mario kart on snes?, it was one of the first party games, so what other party games did you all play. tony hawks playing horse was one for me, and before that I we used to play alot of Worms and bishi bashi special. terrible one player games but excellent in large groups.

Effexeye: I liked the original MGS as well, probably because it was a mixture of games, it was a sneaker, it was a sniping game, it was a arcade rope descent, it was a simple fighter and an on rails shooter. And I dunno why but taking out that HinD was one of the most rewarding moments in my gaming history. Til the guy came back later and I thought "wtf when the hell is this sob gonna lay down and die"

Yeah I actually remember it, it was the one where you never actually face a metal gear at the end, there was a version out on the sony msx computer that was meant to be better, but that version was still good. Sheesh, i've held off posting on this topic, just because i wanted to see if anyone had any similar tastes as mine, but the topic has slightly exploded here.

As far as best game of all time? For me, hands down, it's Snatcher on the old Sega CD. Back in the day, Sega CD was my shiznit, and the whole reason i even got the system was for that game. For more on it (because i'm pretty sure that most of you other than Omaru haven't heard of it) check out the very first column i did here at the 'shoot.

My favorite game series is Resident Evil, though. I was never much of a horror movie fan until almost out of highschool, but the RE games dominate my consoles just about any free time i have...

And, of course, we can't forget the one of the best games ever, Super Mario 3. They still haven't been able to top it...

Ian-

What is it that is so enthralling about the Resident Evil series? The crappy control? The one-dimensional characters? The "scariness"? The tired plots? The hackneyed dialogue? The subpar graphics? (Ok I realize the graphics on Gamecube were good, but that was like the 10 billionth remake of the 1st Resident Evil). I just don't understand the appeal of this series....can someone explain it to me?

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay, the controls aren't THAT bad. Seriously, this is the one thing that pisses me off the most when people say they don't like the RE series because of the control. It's quite simple, UP is FORWARD. No matter which way you'e facing. Once you have this in mind, the controls are fine. Get over it.

Secondly, one-dimentional characters aside, this is basically an interactive horror film. Do horror films have characters with more to them than what's on the surface? Not usually. So this, coupled with unintentionally humerous dialogue only makes me enjoy the games MORE. It's a flippin' ZOMBIE game, for chri'sakes. What're you expecting, Shakespere? Still, the plots of some are better than others (the first RE is awesome, despite being a blatant rip off of most NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD type films) and it's more startiling that scary. I jump when dogs leap through the windows and attack you, i'm not overly frightened by it. There are some genuine scares too...so, yeah, it's not the scariest game around, but i still enjoy it for what it is, Survival Horror.

And you can't complain about the graphics...they're PSOne games for craps' sake. They were GOOD for that system. The remakes and newer games look really good (from Code Veronica on) so you really can't complain there.

Sorry you disagree, but i didn't expect anyone too anyway. I said these are MY favorites...

My personal favorite of the series is "R.E. 3 Nemeises" though the Graphics are dated by todays standards ,it's really cool to mix the different types of gun powders and come up with different types of Ammo.I wish they had left that in for Code Veronica.
Also the laughably bad voice acting has improved markedly since the the first game in 95 , In all incarnations since.
My favorite games involve flying around in outer space and blowing things up, my next favorite category is a nice gory FPS.
I rarely step outside these genres but for rare exceptions like R.E. and G.T.A.

Omaru
12-06-2003, 06:20 PM
I love the voice acting in code veronica, you can imagine them just eating the microphone, especially that bad guy with the really camp voice. of all the one's I've played or watched other's play I think I like 2 the most then code veronica, I'm just glad That Nemesis in the 3rd game wasn't as persistant to hunt down and follow you as the killers in Clock tower 3.

On a side note of sarcasm Tomb raider should technically be a horror game. It comes out in unwanted sequals with various loopholes, are as cheesy as hell and lacking in any real plot other than to make money on yet another samey release /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Just because I am an anal bastard the correct code to Contra is Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start, most people did the B, A twice because you can miss it the first time, I think people like to press select because you can use all the buttons in the pad then (it doesn't matter if you do). The only other code that I remember by heart is the code to Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! 007 373 5963 for Mike Tyson. Most people have already named some damn good games, I would like to include:
Dr. Mario, Half-Life, Galaga, Warcraft, Snood, and who can forget Pac-Man. It's all about the timeless classics...

I like it, but the learning curve sorta takes a sudden steepness once you get projectiles (nailgun for example) took me a few attempts to get this fuel can back to a crane and then there was a little subgame involving using the cranes magnet to keep hittin manhunters with a dumpster, I was not getting the hang of it at all but still managed to suceed first time. The gore is just an unpretty veil over a fairly cool stealth affair (cause you go with those guys in melee or gunfights early on, you might win but you dont usually without a severe ass kicking.)

Omaru: So is it a fun game? How would you rate the replay value? Does it compare at all to GTA?

Omaru
01-08-2004, 09:27 PM
It's fun, its much more confined than GTA, in fact thers no freedom really but that adds to the survival atmosphere overall, replay value, well theres other difficultys and theres star ratings (you get 5 stars for playing in the hardest difficulty and completing in a fast time with the most brutal kills) I don't think I'll go through it again once i'm done but I thinkk I'll play through start to finish, The only replay value I'll get out of it is the trial and error techniques for each level.

Sorry to disagree, Smurfy, but for the hardcore gamer, the 'Cube is kind of a joke. Weak hardware, expensive and unwieldy peripherals, and teeny, tiny little controllers. The one thing they do have going for them are their product licenses- Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, etc. The XBOX is the state-of-the-art for home console gaming.

Yeah "Outcast " is cool once you get a light saber and some force powers. Really frustrating though. I've played most the way through the game many times and only managed to beat Dessan twice. Both times with the collapsing pillar trick, once it fell on his lightsaber after he'd thrown it at me and he was left defenseless. I got him up against the wall for nice bit of hack and slash. Damn ! that was satisfying! The other time the pillar fell directly on him. I was wondering if anyone ever found other ways to beat him ?

<font color="purple">Its ok, you can disagree with me. Its your opinion.

I do, however, think the gamecube has way better graphics than the x-box. Have you seen the nice craftman ship they gave Mario Sunshine. Awesome. Nintendo has it right on with thier graphics. They have come a long way.

Even with the n64, the graphics were amazing. I think that is why I loved playing Diddy Kong Racing so much. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif</font color>

I've thought about selling my PS2. What stopped me before is the lack of Grand Theft Auto for the X-box and the shape of the controller, but no longer. Now it's purely financial. I will do my best though. /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif
I already uninstalled Uru from my computer. I didn't like the gameplay and I realized I was getting myself into something enormously time-consuming.

Wow, playing-games-in-Sixth-Form flashback!

I used to love this game. In versus mode, placing proximity mines all over the place - I was one of those sneaky gits.

I was a screen peeker so I always saw where my brother put them.

I think it was an underground silo level(?) The one with the toilets in - placing a mine in a loo on one side, and hiding in a compartment on the other, facing the wall - 9 times out of 10, my little bro would go to the wrong si-BOOM!

Now there was a game.

Also Goldeneye was all kinds of awesome. One-hit-kills with the pistols was my group of mates' preferred multiplayer setting.

You and I played in very similar ways, it seems.

I was a screen peeker so I always saw where my brother put them.
You, however, are the worst kind of scum. ;)

I did that all the feckin' time. :D

I know it will never happen, due to licensing issues, but it would be amazing if they released it for the DS. Imagine 8-player wireless multiplayer on that bad boy - EPIC!
