View Full Version : Maybe I'm just drunk but.....

Okay , truth is, I am drunk ! ( and in no condition to post but hey , that never stopped me before so...) Whenever you guys find yourself in the company of large groups blood relations. Do you sometimes think, maybe there was some sorta baby mix-up at the hospital ?

There's no way I can really be related to these people ?

I say this because I will be spending my Thanksgiving with friends this year. We call it the "Orphaned Thanksgiving" though none of us are really orphaned. A freind of mine said it best and she was probably qouting someone else " Friends are Gods' consolation for the family you got stuck with."
I don't want to give the wrong impression here, I love my family but I get very depressed when spending time with them. I don't know why , maybe I'm afraid I'll turn out like them, And what could possibly be scarier than that ?

Oh, right, waking up without my penis.

Anyways ? Thoughts ? Suggestions ? Input ?

I don't agree. I think that family is the most important thing in life.

My entire family consists of my mother. No grandparents, no aunts and uncles, no siblings, nothing. Family cannot be a big priority to me, but my friends are my family.

Looking at my almost-ex-in-laws I had never known how far the word "family" can be shoved up someone's ass. They despise each other, say vicious things to each other, do vicious things to each other, have nothing in common, etc. It is amazing to me that they talk all the time about the imporance of "Family", and freak out if anyone wants to include or spend time with a non-family-member. Hell, it is no wonder my almost-ex has issues.

The sad part for me is that my family was really cool, and they are all gone now.

coming from not only a dysfinctional family, but an entirely dysfunctional family tree I do look at them and wonder where I fit in the jigsaw.

I think it depends how much family you see as you grow up, the ones that have been around me the most are the ones I get along with more, And in some cases hate moreso.

I have something like 12,000 first cousins. Family is everywhere around here.

But seriously , it is well that you don't, it means you have a cool family . I consider my friends a greater blessing that's all.

You truly are a Goddess you know that ? I was reading some of the old threads and Ryall said somewhere in there that if two poopshooters ever fell for eachother he would pay for the wedding. If you ever find yourself in Austin ask yourself : Who are these strange people and why am I wearing handcuffs ? .... Oh wait I was thinking of something else . I mean think about it a FREE wedding and we could invite all the poopshooters !

Robbo presides over the fan club so he determines who gets in or not. Denyse is an outside advisor, but actually has the most authority. Last time I looked, I was vice president and Razorback was one of those evil shareholders trying to wrassle away the company and create a corporate merger.

Now if only there was a way I could send her some chocolates and a pic without showing everyone here ?

I don't think I have ever agreed more with RB. Family is everything. (I consider my close friends to be family as well.) I love holidays because it means I get to drink with my family. Always a good time. Typical family outings at the Courtright house involve either eating, drinking, and playing Trivial Pursuit; or eating, drinking, and playing football.

I also have a boatload of cousins. Alas, the majority of them are in or around Indiana. Luckily, most of my friends have stayed in the state so they can take the place of non-Colorado-living relatives.

Family is a good thing, but mine doesn't let me participate in a lot of the family stuff. They are always like "I assume you are going to a friends house" and I'm all like "No, I barely am ever out."

I held the "Mark L Lewis Thanksgiving and Costume Party 2003" back in August. It was great, All my friends were going away for School all across America so I held my own Thanksgiving. To make it fun it was also a costume party.
The catch was we didnt eat Thanksgiving food, but instead everyone brought there fav. food.
So we had steaks, burgers, Soups, Pies, Cakes, Breads, Candies ect... Then we watched movies and talked.

It was the best Thanksgiving ever. Because generally you cant invite your friends over for Thanksgiving dinner, due to the fact they spend it with there family.

Also for the last 3 years I've always worked on Thanksgiving so it was nice to have something like Thanksgiving.

Also Friends dont let Friends drink and post

Lucky you. I wish I could spend thanksgiving with my friends. I love my family and all, but my mom tends to tell everyone that I am a failure and how proud she is of my brother for working at a fast food joint. Oh, how lovely.

Smurfy, that's why you stuff your gut and then peel out! I love my family too, but I let them bust on me when I'm not around. If you stay, it usually just adds fuel to the fire, at least that's how it works with me.

Yeah tomorrow (for me) will be pretty much like that without the costumes.

You guys made me smile this morning! Yes, Karma does have the heirarchy of the Internation Order of Zen correct. He forgot to mention that he gets a discount on dues because I am the vice-pres of the International Organization of Karma-Attack. For people who don't like forms to fill out we have the International Organization of Instant Karma. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Wingman, you are doing good things for my ego today...Thank you sweetie.

Droog, don't forget...that married title is dropping soon. RB is waging a hostile take-over, but so far no lay-offs are occuring. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Family can be great, but sometimes, they can really get on your nerves. Sometimes, I think we take them for granted until they are almost not here anymore.

This year, I am thankful that my mom just finished her last chemo (sp?) treatment with flying colors and doesn't need radiation treatment. Her last one was about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and she is doing so well, she and my dad are going to Florida for a week starting this weekend.

This year will be another year of just my daughter and I. No relatives visiting and we aren't visiting anyone. Not even gonna do the turkey or ham deal this year. I asked her what she wanted and she said oriental food, so we are cooking a couple of Philippino dishes. Of course, she is still gonna cook a couple of pumpkin pies.

It took years, and many storming out oof different occasions including one Christmas morning before all of my presents were opened, not to mention of course shouting, resentment, and so forth, but I'm now at a point where I honestly love and care for my family.

It seems we're all stubborn, opinionated, self-sufficient wise-asses, and we never saw it as something we had in common. Now we can exchange offensive jokes about Cleveland Steamers and blow jobs and stuff, just to watch the confusion on Evil Grandma's face as she tries to guess what the slang is. Luckily, she'd never believe we would talk about what we're talking about over thanksgiving dinner.

And Zen, I'm still waiting on my membership card. Of course, you're probably waiting on that side thing we discussed, so I will shut my damn trap now.
