I cant wait for the new Punisher movie, there hasnt been a classic comicbook film for years, ever since Blade infact i mean X-men 2 was good but not great and the hulk was a pile of shit (it was so damn boring) so this could possibly fill Blades and Batmans shoes

Meh, I could take or leave the Punisher movie. I'm a fan of the comics, but I won't make a real effort to see it.

Hellboy, however, I can't wait.

You do know that they already made one horrible Puisher starring Dolph Lundren. Lets just hope this one is better. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Should be, I mean John Travolta is in it. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

The trailer doesn't do much to make me want to see it. I loved the comic but so far there is nothing driving me to see this movie.

I mean, the trailer sure did something for me! Thomas Jane shirtless, oh baby, I am there. But he is a great actor overall. I loved 61*.

Bong, oh, I am sorry I looked over your post and missed the word NEW. oops.

Punisher is probably one of the hardest characters to translate to film. Spider-Man, X-Men, The Hulk, etc. no one had ever seen anything like those up on the big screen. But Punsher... the premise sounds like oh, maybe 100 other movies I have seen. In fact, the trailer seemed all too reminiscent of the Dolph Lundgren movie.

Now if they had decided to take it in the dark humor direction of Garth Ennis's recent run, well that would be another story.

I'm still watching the Hellboy trailer.

Yeah, a part of me really wants the Punisher to break the "R" barrier for a superhero movie, but, the way the marketing winds are blowing, I doubt it. Although, this may be a good time for a vigilante hero in terms of living in America. I for one am glad that at least they got some name talent to be in the film this time....

Yes, but there are those of us out here who have seen and remember Battlefield Earth and Original Sin. The latter shows how possible it is for Thomas Jane's acting to simulate nails clawing a chalkboard. The former shows a movie can actually look, sit and smell like shit and John Travolta will still put his name on it.
I loved The Punisher comics. I'm only mad they are fuckin up this movie because I got my hopes up that they were actually going to repair the original fuck up.

I was a Punisher fanatic in high school- of the 70 bucks I spent every two weeks on comics, the Punisher probably accounted for at least a third of that. I agree with Karma that Travolta SUCKS, but at least he is the villain and not the main character. I haven't seen one of his movies in years, but I sure don't have very high hopes for the new movie. The trailer looks cheap and uninspired, and it sounds like they are [censored] around with the origin story too. I wonder if Microchip will be in it? I think a spin-off series on the Discovery channel called Punisher's Armory would be a great concept for a show.

The Punisher movie has a lot of things going against it. One of my friends is working on it on the executive side. Here's what he told me.

Strike 1: First time director
Strike 2: Travolta is hit or miss. No way to know if that is a good casting choice until it's too late.
Strike 3: In order to get a wider audience, they are trying to get a PG-13 rating

Now, the idea of Punisher being PG-13 is insane. It should be NC-17 and I agree they should have done the Ennis storyline. The cool thing about the Punisher is that he is the bad guy in other comics, but the good guy in his own world. Punisher is best when dealing with Spidey or Daredevil. They just don't do crossovers like that in movies. It works better in comics and Punisher is just one of those that despite it's popularity it shouldn't have been made into a movie.

The thing is comic book movies dont have to be PG-13. Look at Blade 18 (or R in the US) or batman 1 & 2 both 15's (dunno what that is in the US) if it sticks to the dark comics and not the cartoon appearances in Spiderman it should be something to look forward to.

Oh and sorry I love pappa smurth didnt mean to sound nasty.

I just can't see Marvel releasing an R-rated superhero movie....I can't even believe they still publish the Punisher, really! He's one of only 2 superheroes I can think of without any special abilities.....can anyone name the other one, or think of one I haven't thought of?

Bong_Boy

Marvel write Blade and both Blade 1 & 2 were R rated.

Yes, but Blade is in a totally different vein from the other Marvel movies, plus, the standards of X-men, Spiderman and the Hulk had not yet been set when Blade was released, establishing a family audience.

Besides, Blade sucks. One AND two.

Bong_Boy

Excellent point, but Blade did not suck in my opinion, Blade 2 was bad though.

I kind of expected The Punisher to not live up to my hopes, so I can let it go.

Ghost Rider, on the other hand..........if Mark Steven Johnson "Daredevils" this movie, he might as well throw my inner 10-year-old down a flight of theater stairs.

Ghost Rider will Rock (i hope), apparently Nicholas Cage is starring in it.

um......that would happen to be one of the very things worrying me.
But his turns in Matchstick Men and Adaptation, especially Adaptation, give me hope.

The part that is weak sauce is the PG-13 rating. Ghost Rider is the spirit of vengence. The Spirit of Vengence = NC-17. You can't have someone become the earthly incarnate of Revenge and have him only "kind of" hurting people.
