Episode III will further connect the Star Wars saga, bridging the prequel trilogy to the original trilogy in new and surprising ways. As such, familiar faces and places will return in this new Star Wars film, which is currently in pre-production.
Reprising their classic roles from the original trilogy are actors Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker. They return to Star Wars as Chewbacca the Wookiee, C-3PO and R2-D2.
"I'm delighted to return as Chewbacca," says Mayhew. "I think his re-appearance in this film is a fitting way to tie the whole saga together, especially for Wookiee fans." Given that Chewbacca is a sprightly 200 years old in Episode IV, he is more than old enough to fit into the prequel timeline.
Maybe this will tie into Obi Wan seeking out Chewbacca in Episode 4? Or not.
Geez people.

I think it is a mistake to have Chewie in the next movie.

I'm fine with Chewie coming back. I think the only person that shouldn't be allowed to the STAR WARS movies is George Lucas.
Oh, and then Hayden Christianson.
How the hell do you mess up a STAR WARS movie? Hell, you even had Ewen MacGregor! And Natalie Portman! And C3PO...and Yoda! Well, sorta Yoda...an animated Yoda...

Methinks someone isn't fond of the big furry guy, am I right razorback?
Well the feeling is more than mutual. in about november last year I went to a british convenntion and seen the long haired guy behind the suit, and I just shunted him to meet other nobodies like Lana cox (model) Hacksaw Jim duggan and Jake "the cocain snake" roberts. who I was a bit afraid of compared to the overall friendliness of hacksaw jim.
I just hated him cause his screams were annoying, and he had that weird one sided [censored] love for han solo.

It's not that I don't like Chewie... I just don't think that he should be making an appearance in Episode III. Lucas has a lot of stuff to cover in 2 hours and I think that he will just be wasting our time with some Chewie time.

I liked Christensen in the movie. He was flat at times but I thought it had more to do with the way Lucas writes and directs than the actor (I could be wrong though).

I bet Chewbacca just comes in and saves someone. Oh, and I bet he also has rocket-jets on his feet for some reason.
I really wanted to like part II, but I thought it blew on every level. But that's just me.

Chewie and Han are just two strangers in a bar in EpIV. They don't need a backstory for EpIII. Period. What's the next announcement? There's going to be a scene where Lando and Obi-Wan are playing a game of cards? Having Jabba in EPI was a little too coincidental, there needs to be an end to this cameo backstory stuff.

basically everyone who existed in episode 1 and died in 4-6 are gonna be in it, and those that arent in eps 4-6 but were in 1 are gonna be killed off, so we'll probably see baby luke and his little sister get sent off. And the death of a certain gungam. Sweet! it might be the best of the new trilogy /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

I agree with that. The character had a decent introduction in A New Hope, and there really isn't a need to go back and do that all over again. But honestly, it's better than some of the other ideas people have been saying.
Wait, I'm just a silly girl. Get me out of this thread.

His part sure was written badly. I don't understand how you take one of the coolest badguys in movie history, and turn him into a whiner. How? Man, I don't pretend that I'm a smarter guy than George Lucas, but there's so many interesting things that could have been done with that character instead of the road they chose. For the life of me, I cannot understand why they decided to make him a whiny baby. This guy is going to turn into Darth Vader? Blech.
Brat Vader, Darth Whiner, Anakin since-I'm-a-whiny-baby-I-still-need-a-walker-... I dunno, I'm just takin' pot shots. I didn't really think it was that bad. Well, okay, it was that bad. But you could rationalize that Anakin was at that level of maturity where you think you know everything and you're bullet proof, but you're dad still won't let you borrow the starship on a Friday night. And then to be told constantly that you're the chosen one... I'd whine too. But anyway, about EpII- the whole chase scene kicked ass- I mean, holy shit that was cool! It looked more like Bladerunner than Star Wars. And then it all fell apart... I really REALLY wish Lucas would step aside and let Spielberg do III- he's doing some really dark stuff lately. Hell, let Kirshner come back. And for Pete's sake, kill the Gungan...

Well, even Osama bin Laden was a whiny baby before he became the greatest evil in the universe. During the Afghan war with the USSR bin Laden would go around the middle-east begging for money for the Mujahadeen fighters. Most people who knew him then thought that he couldn't lead a goat out of a barn and found him pathetically puss-like.

Yes, have Spielberg do episode 3, and then it could be about how in Palpatine, Anakin finds a father figure that he never had and...oh wait, that would just be every other Spielberg movie.

I'll just make the standard Spielberg joke about replacing the lightsabers with walkie talkies, so nobody else has to. It's a public service.
I think it'll be interesting to see Chewbacca in Ep 3. I don't know how they're going to do it though. I really really hope that they're not going to try to introduce some toddler as Han Solo, either. I have a feeling that introducing Chewie is Lucas' way of saying: "Look! It's got Chewie in it! You love Chewie! I'm still cool! I'm still cool! Please?"

Doesn't Lucas remember a little thing called the Star Wars Christmas Special? Doesn't he remember himself saying "If I had time and a hammer I'd hunt down every copy of that show"? There's concrete evidence that a boatload of cameos does not make good entertainment, even if it features some of the most beloved characters on earth.
I'm just surprised that Lucas didn't op for a CG Chewie. He'd probably prefer $10,000 Graphics over a $400 suit made of wigs, because he'd want to make Chewie look more 'believable'. I'd almost bet money that it will be a redesigned Chewie that is supposed to look younger somehow, and it will piss off the fans.

I'm still a Star Wars fan and I'll still see EP3 many times in theaters just to see the whole galaxy get enslaved in massive battles, but I think its probably the least anticipation I've ever had for a Star Wars movie.
If anything, I'd really like to start hearing news for Space Balls 2: The Quest for More Money.

to make chewiw look ounger they will just sweep his hair back, like they did for the "young chewie" card that came with the action figure in 1997. Basically his hair is combed straight back so he looks like teen wolf lol. or more like he just actually has a prom date so he had to groom it back.
