First, I really enjoyed this week's column and can't wait to see Elf.

Was the ommission of Adam Sandler from your SNL alumni stuff on purpose? Is he that unlikable? Or is it that his movies are insipid and appeal to very specific audience?

And as for Murray not being likable enough. What About Bob? What about Groundhog day? Caddyshack. The list goes on. Ferrell will be a very lucky guy indeed if people continue to mention his name in the same sentence with the likes of Bill Murray.

I think an important distinction between Ferrell or Murray and a lot of the guys you talked about is that they don't define the movies they are in. Let's face it, every movie featuring Sandler is called 'an Adam Sandler movie' when people talk about it. Same with any decent movie featuring Mike Myers, Chevy Chase and Eddie Murphy (voice acting doesn't count). Sure it's cool that those guys are so funny, but their movies are more like vehicles used to deliver their funny rather than actual movies.

As for Ferrell, I believe you when you talk about how he is so committed to a role that he'll be a prick if the script demands it. What I am afraid of is that he won't have the talent required to pull it off. I wouldn't question his heart, but I would question his ability. Since he's going to try anyway I hope he can pull it off.

Um...oops. Seriously, oops. I completely forgot. I liked Sandler's old movies (8 Crazy Nights isn't among the ones I liked, nor is Mr. Deeds). Wow, can't believe I forgot Sandler.

Oh, I never said he wasn't likeable--I love the guy--but that lots of his roles aren't warm, easygoing guys like Ferrell plays. Some people find Murray oft-putting, even in movies like Groundhog Day. I think he might be the most respected ex-SNL'er, though.

That's definitely not always a good thing.

I agree.

Yeah, me, too.

Thanks, man.

<font color="purple">I loved Elf. I thought it was a great movie. I laughed, cried (yes, in my 'older' age I seem to cry over everything, Finding Nemo, Star Wars), felt like a kid again and was sort of distracted by those yellow tights.. awful color..

And as for bewitched (how awesome) is he going to be playing darin? This is the first news I have heard about this besides Nikki Kidman (bad choice) playing Sam Stevens. I am a huge fan of the series.

And great column Chris. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Keep up the jolly good work.
