The granddaddy of karaoke songs has got to be Living on a Prayer. Sing this song and what the whole crowd get into it. Really anything by Jovi will do this but Living on a prayer for some reason just makes everyone wanna sing. And its cool cause the words arent hard and everyone knows the chorus

People always make me do Man In The Box by Alice In Chains because I rock out like a mofo on that song.

"It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones. While I exaggerate the vocals a bit, it's my dancing that makes the song work. See, I'm 6'3 and about 155 lbs. So when you see a lanky freak trying to jive like the man, well, its entertainment in its purist form.

Oh, you rock like a sweater-knitting grandma.
And staying on topic, the only time I've karaoked (is that a word) I did a very inebriated version of Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane." I came in a measure late, so I got to redeem myself by slurring the words to Elvis Costello's "Alison."
It honestly amazed me that there are these people that think this is their ticket to stardom. I suppose it could be now with those American Idol and Nashville Star shows. The bars on Broadway and in Printer's Alley are only around to keep the Nashville illusion alive, that the troubador can quit his factory job and play in a Nashville bar and wind up on the Grand Ol' Opry. Have I mentioned this before?
Yeah, so I enjoyed my drunk butchering of songs that one time.

I've had two karaoking experiences. First time, me and a friend, both of us incredibly white, did "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' It" and "Baby Got Back". Second time, I did "No Excuses". I didn't realize that I had to turn on the mic, so I sang the first verse without any sound.

I don't want you, cook my bread,
I don't want you, make my bed,
I don't want your money too,
I just wanna make love to you.
I don't want you, be no slave,
I don't want you, work all day,
I don't want you to be sad and blue,
I just wanna make love to you.
I can tell by the way that you baby talk,
I can see by the way that you switch and walk,
I can tell by the way that you treat your man,
But I could love you baby, it's a cryin' shame.
I don't want you, wash my clothes,
I don't want you, keep a home,
I don't want you to be true,
I just wanna make love to you.
I don't want you, be no slave,
I don't want you, work all day,
I don't want you to be true,
I just wanna make love to you.
I don't want you, keep a home,
I don't want you, wash my clothes,
I don't want you to be true,
I just wanna make love to you.
Ya can't beat that.

my mom forced me to do Son of a preacher man by janis joplin....it was embarassing, and my voice squeaked a few times /forums/images/icons/blush.gif ...i think a good one would be to do Hello, I Love You by The Doors.

Son of a preacher man was sung by Dusty Springfield not janis joplin. But if Joplin had her own version, I am unaware.

My favorite Cake song is "Short Skirt/Long Jacket".
I am not a fan of karaoke, and try to avoid places that have it. My bad vice is piano bars, especially Pat O'Brians if I am in The Big Easy. It is probably because my house tends to be a bit piano bar-ish when we have parties.
Most parties end with 20 of my drunken friends doing their versions of the classics while I play. Have you ever heard "Girl, Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away" sung by 20 drunk people with a piano back up? No? Come over next week. It isn't pretty, but it is fun.
a favorite to put in as a suprise for someone in your karaoke party, is "i touch myself' by the DeVinyls.
One of my fav's to do for real is "Naughty Girls need love too" by Samantha Fox. A crowd pleaser i tell ya.

I dont think you can really Karaoke Cannibal Corpse. Dont get me wrong, Aside from Cradle of Filth, they are probably the greatest Death Metal band around. I think The Haunted and or Napalm Death are better Karaoke bands, Canibal would be too hard to pull off without a real band in my opinion.

My staples are
"[censored]" by Denis Leary
"One" by U2
"Here & Now" by Letters to Cleo
"Wild Wild West" by Escape Club
"Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles
"Add it Up" by the Violent Femmes
One of the fun things my crew does is Karaoke Roulette. Each person fills out a slip for the person to one side, in a circle, and turns it in. Nobody knows what they are singing until they go up. Easy fun and embarassment.

There's a bar nearby my house at the Ramada Inn that does karaoke every Saturday night that me and my girlfriend go to. I usually select some regular song and do Weird Al's version, or in the off chance that they have a song i've parodied i do that. lately i've been doing COUCH POTATO to Eminem's LOSE YOURSELF, but i choked last week and forgot the third verse. I was so pissed. I'll be doing TRASH DAY tomorrow night tho (Al's parody of Hot In Herre by Nelly)
Tho, since i just got KARAOKE REVOLUTION for Ps2, i've been playing that a good bit. Sheesh, that game is scary-addictive. In case you missed it, here's my (shameless plug) review:

I am waiting for you to do a review on the lord of the rings game and the dragon ball z game (I was playing it with my bro the other day, and the game is bloody addictive...and I can't stand the show). /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Just a hint. </font color>

Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight," of course.
I've never made it all the way through the 14-minute version without someone ripping the mike from my hands about the time I get to "...the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mush and the chicken tastes like wood."

Ramada? The one in Loch Raven? I used to go there. And not to encourage this john guy, but were you at the Revolutions screening at the Senator?
Friday night was a weird set for me. I did "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "Sweet Home Chicago," then "Never Gonna Give You Up." All over the place.

Yup, sure was. Tuesday night. It's cool to have friends who work for the sneak preview company...
I'll post my thoughts of the flick in the proper thread tho...
Oh, and Smurfy-one, i reviewed the DBZ game when it came out for PS2. I just got the Gamecube version in the mail yesterday (Atari is SO slow) and since it has improved graphics, i may review it again, but it's basically the same game as the PS2 version. Check out the review in the archives:
http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/gameon/archives.html
And to keep this on topic...Saturday at Karaoke i did "Trash Day" (Al's parody of Hot In Herre by Nelly), "Ode To Ronald" (my own parody of "Santa Monica" by Everclear) and "Couch Potato" (Al's parody of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem)...i roked. My gf also rocked, and i joined her for "Bring Me To Life" by Eveanescence. I still need her to sing my parody lyrics for that one, tho...
