View Full Version : All Things Walken
Everyone was talking about Christopher Walken in another part of the forum, so I figured, HEY! A Walken thread!
So... What's your view on the man named...
Christopher Walken?
I'm a fan. First movie I saw him in was "Dogs of war" as a child, liked it then and I like it now.
He's able to laugh at himself too, which is great. "The Continental" anyone?
His body of work, Well to quote him, "Wow! Wowee wow wow WOW!
Start the shootin. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I know i've seen him in tons of stuff but I only seem to remember him in waynes world 2 and that one where he forsees martin sheen doing george bush's job. Oh and that music video where he's flying around on harness and dancing, that was pretty cool.

The Continental - one of the best Saturday Night Live Skits of all time. "Would you like some Champang-ne?"
Certainly prolific, he is in some of my favorite movies (The Deer Hunter, True Romance, Suicide Kings, Annie Hall) and also in some truly terrible stuff (Wayne's World 2, Excess Baggage, Blast From the Past, Kangaroo Jack).
His performance in Catch Me If You Can was wonderful, and he was also perfect in Scotland, PA. I hope he picks his next few projects carefully.

Besides all the great performances in movies, he has to be one of the best talk show guests on the planet. You never know what the hell is going to come out of his mouth and he is always hilarious no matter WHAT he's talking about because his delivery has gotten so outlandish at this point that it doesn't matter what he says, he's just funny.

I totally agree, he is one of the most unpredictable people, but in a good way. When I see Walken slated for late night talk on Ryall's TV Recommendations, I literally jump for joy. There's somthing about the way he talks that is like a metronome for comedic timing. His speech in Pulp Fiction still stands as one of the most hilariously delivered monologues ever. And his role in Suicide Kings was probably the best display of his talent for acting.
He may be typecast in movies as a madman, but he still brings something unique to all of his performances. Personally, I'd like to see him guest star on more sitcoms or host a talk show for a week.
Walken as a Jimmy Kimmel guest host? I can only hope.

The man is half-god, simple as that.

There's just no beating his scene with Dennis Hopper in True Romance. No beating it.

I was just going to say that. That scene with Dennis Hopper in that movie is one of the best ever put to film. If you have not seen that movie, see it just for that part.

I gotta have more cowbell!
The cowbell skit, God that was funny! Will Farrell almost made me piss myself with laughter! But Walken... His delivery, cowbells, genious.
I liked him in King of New York. Most of his work really.
Anyone see him and Dafoe in "New Rose Hotel"? I thought it was alright. I'm a big William Gibson fan, so I was happy to see that one done. Except... It needed a much bigger budget.

"I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell."
Classic. And who can forgot his monolugue from Pulp Fiction? Only Walken can keep your attention long enough to let you in on where he hid a watch for three years. Hint: Up his ass.
Okay, less of a hint, more like I told you. Anyway, the man is awesome.

That one with Martin Sheen was the Dead Zone, directed by David Cronenberg. Good flick.

Walken is the man! It doesn't matter how crappy of a movie he is in, he will bring it up out of the ashes.

Agreed. Walken is the man.
I had almost forgotten about "The Continental"; thanks for reminding me. One, or I guess several, of his finest moments ever. How many times did he do this sketch? I count at least three.
As for movies, great in everything, but Pulp Fiction takes the cake! Funniest scene in the movie, and that says a lot. I must admit that I am biased, since I believe this to be the greatest movie of all time! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

He's the Walken Man. Well, any other man stops and talks.
But the Walken man walks.
That scene between Hopper and Walken in True Romance was excellent. I like the guy in anything, even the Weapon of Choice video.

Obscure greatness:
Walken in Mouse Trap
Walken in Fatboy Slim's video
...Kevin Spacey impersonating Walken auditioning for Star Wars as Han Solo.

Deer Hunter was definitely his best performance.

The man has been in at least 73 movies, so it is hard to pick his best. If I had to narrow it down, in no particular order, I think the following are his best movies:
Deer Hunter
King of New York
Suicide Kings
All of the Prophecy movies
Pulp Fiction

Maybe this is wrong, but it seems like we should make a couple of different lists: starring roles and cameo/appearance roles. There are some problems with this; Pulp Fiction would be relegated to the cameo list, which many would consider, quite unfairly, the lesser of the two. Oh well, who cares what people think?

Christopher Walken is just one of those people who is undeniably cool without even trying. Him, and Michael Caine.

Wish I could find a Simpsons clip of Walken reading 'Goodnight Moon', but Fox's legal hounds do their best to keep the internet free of such pleasures.

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago for the same clip... Then the full episode was "acquired". :)
