Before I answer this, I need clarification. See, I'm from South Carolina, and this
In reply to:

Appropriate date for stores to put up Christmas decorations
[/ QUOTE ] can mean more than one thing. Does "put up" mean:
A) trimming the tree, setting out the nativity scene, stringing the lights?
or
B) Putting away the decorations.
I know people tend to set them out too early, or never take them down, and this question could go either way, and I don't want to give an incorrect answer based on my misinterpretation of the question.

When should stores start to decorate, I mean? Since there's already some here that have everything up, it's too late for this to make a difference, but I thought I'd inquire.
I have to say, after seeing ELF, it's put me in a bit of a Christmas mood already (plus the temperature is down to the high `60s, which says "winter!"), so for now, I'm okay with it.

Not eaten alive by an apex predator. Beyond that, it’s the basic stuff: Got to meet View Askew and Movie Poop Shoot people at the Stash Bash. Kind of nice to be invited, and I’m thankful for that. I’m not a woman. Childbirth, Pre-menstrual syndrome, Menopause? No thanks.
2. What are you least thankful for this year?
Getting laid off. Thanks a bunch, guys! Happy Holidays!
3. What's your favorite Thanksgiving Day food?
Stuffed peppers. I’m like a vegetarian and stuff, so mumsy would always hook me up with something less dead animalish than the traditional faves.
4. What holiday film are you most anticipating?

1. I'm thankful for this board. No, seriously, it's hard to come across a board that is worth posting on everyday. Big props to Ryall for keeping us animals under control.
2. I'm least thankful for reality TV. I thought that trend died 2 years ago, but it's still clunking up the airwaves.
3. Turkey! Not because it's the best tasting thing on the table, but because you can eat 5 lbs. of it and then let the natural chemicals lull you into... a... nice... zzzzzzz
4. Return of the King. I'm seeing it on Trilogy Tuesday, which means I'll finally reach my goal of sitting in a theatre for over 10 hours.
5. Decorations? As soon as they can. My local mall has these Reindeer that you can talk to (they're animatronic and operated by two people). I always try to have off-color conversations with them.

It's that time again...(it's actually past time, but don't hold that against me):
1. What are you most thankful for in 2003?
- Finally learning to follow my gut reactions and do what feels right to me, not what others dictate is correct. I am also thankful for my friends, who listen to me when I am not doing so hot and put up with me when I get wild.
2. What are you least thankful for this year?
- Any person who claims to care about someone, but in fact just wants to control and possess them.
3. What's your favorite Thanksgiving Day food?
- Turkey. My mom was never a gourmet cook, but she can really cook a mean turkey. This year it will be just the 2 of us, so we will be eating turkey for a LONG time!
4. What holiday film are you most anticipating?
- Return of the King. The whole LOTR trilogy has been a blast so far, and I am looking forward to the 3rd year of my group getting together to "nerd-out" and head en-masse to the theater. It reminds me how much we have grown up, but still think like we did when we were kids.
5. Appropriate date for stores to put up Christmas decorations?
- Day after Thanksgiving. I love decorating for Christmas. Even when I was living in a tiny, crappy apt. in Cali. I had a tree.

2. What are you least thankful for this year? I have to go to some stupid 6-week school in January because I am told I have to, yet I am retiring from my job in just over a year.
3. What's your favorite Thanksgiving Day food? Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream.
4. What holiday film are you most anticipating? LOTR: Return of the King
5. Appropriate date for stores to put up Christmas decorations? Any time between Dec 1 and Dec 24.

1. Most thankful? So much. This board, new friends, reuniting with old friends, some of the gigs I've gotten, things I've finally done that I always wanted to, and the promise of an even better 2004.
2. Not thankful that this year was spent single, but okay with it. I wonder if I'd done as much if I'd been spending time with someone else. Neither option is a bad one, but it's "grass is greener..." thing.
3. Mashed and gravy. Much much mcuh mcuh much mashed and gravy. I'm tempted to reserve a second plate just to mashed and gravy.
4. I'll take this to mean holiday-themed. Elf. I'm getting Christmassy lately thanks to "Love Actually" and constant viewings of "Nightmare Before Christmas" at work.
5. Despite my growing holiday spirit, I cannot acknowledge anything Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. I spend all time between that and Halloween reflecting on the past year, as well as our treatment of the Native Americans, then ironically enjoy every time the Redskins lose yards.

2. What are you least thankful for this year?
I am least thankful for the mpaa or whatever they call themselves. Supina my ass, I think music should be free to everyone and anyone. The itunes music store is a good step but what they did to napster is just wrong. What they are doing to users of Kazaa is even worse.

All the friends of mine who've lost their jobs.
3. What's your favorite Thanksgiving Day food?
Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy all in one bite.
4. What holiday film are you most anticipating?
What do you mean, "holiday film"? Do you mean like Christmas film, or movie coming out around the holidays? Man, you're a douchebag, you can't even ask a simple question.
If you meant "holiday film," I'd say I can't wait to see ELF again--it was so much better than expected--the kind of movie you want to watch every Christmas.
And otherwise, RETURN OF THE KING.
Please try and be clearer in your questions, dickhead.
5. Appropriate date for stores to put up Christmas decorations?
I'd usually say around Thanksgiving, but the day I saw ELF, last Saturday, I came out of that movie and wanted the world to be covered in Christmas decorations. So now I'll say "the day I watch ELF every year" is the day they should have them up.

TVP - Textured Vegetable Protein (not to be confused with the very very bad hydrolyzed vegetable protein which is an msg-type flavouring). I served some to my friends - I told them only after they gobbled them up that the stuffing was flesh-free, and they could not believe it. I also served them (tofu) chocolate mousse, which they also gobbled up. The meal was 100% vegan, and they wanted more. So, it's OK to like tofu, although, admittedly, for some it is an acquired taste.
