View Full Version : Matrix Revolutions Quicky Review (some spoilers)

I just came back from seeing this movie and while I knew the entire plot and scenes I enjoyed it. I don't think it is as good as Reloaded but it is much better than the first one (though, a home movie of a baby farting could be better than that movie).
The action is pretty intense for a good 45 minutes of the movie and the rest is build-up with some action. I think that where this movie loses points with me is in not stopping long enough to pay attention to the words (the words seemed to mean more in Reloaded). I do give the movie points for daring to kill off major characters and for not ending too far from where the first did... back to basics, so to speak. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The people I went to see the movie with had issues with the extremely camp acting and scenes during the big battle, but I don't get too worked up over that kind of stuff. However, I imagine that many more people will be bothered by it.
Anyway, I would give it a grade of B.

>I don't think it is as good as Reloaded
It's not even as good as one of the most disappointing movies of 2003?
Incidentally, unless they edit me out, there should be a piece in this Sunday's LA Times with me talking about the movie and other fall releases. Needless to say, I don't quite share your opinion about this one OR Reloaded (one of the most disappointing movies of 2003).

I can't wait to see a commercial that says:
"One of the best movies of the year says Moviepoopshoot.com"
Is the article going to have you as Chris Ryall - Moviepoopshoot.com?

I told 'em they could only use my name if they used the site name, so we'll see. That'll probably result in them cutting me out entirely, but she said she liked the site, so I'm hopeful...

That's okay Ryall, lots of people are allergic to brain food.
Anyway, Reloaded spent so much time philosophizing that it barely moved the story forward and Revolutions had to tie together all those loose ends. Intellectual nuggets consist mostly of elaborations of themes and inquiries expressed in the second film, but, thankfully, in their place are some clever plot development and the most dramatic, epic, and nerve-racking action sequences I've seen. Dialougue for the bit characters is a bit of a sore spot with too many short, cliche-sounding quips, followed by a cut too more action, but that's the only fault I can distinguish.
I think this one might be better recieved by the critics, the love scenes (which this time means professing love, not love making) are actually believable, at least far more than ever before, and for straight up action this one delivers better than any other Matrix movie. Egg heads might concern themselves with whether the process of Agent Smith's development implicates logical extensions of the Nietzschean archetype (which in fact predates Socrates and Callicles), and if so, the morality of such a state, and if so, if it might be the antithesis of a moral state and what sort of moral state that could be, but Matrix: Revolutions should have more than enough big explosions to satisfy those unconcerned with such questions.

I like the philosophizing in Reloaded and I dig the concepts of Revolutions. My dream movie (of this type) would be one with no action, just the type of dialogue we had in Reloaded between the Architech and Neo. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I have a philosophy class that plays out like your dream movie. Some times its a good movie, but other times I fall asleep.

I had a class like that once... except that everyone else fell asleep and the professor and I ended up debating for 5 hours. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

My dream movie
[/ QUOTE ] So, did you ever see the movie Pi and what did you think of it (no cross-thread pun intended)? I enjoyed the dialogue in that although it's not really the same kind of stuff.

It was cool. Not my favorite genre though.

How about Waking Life?

Waking life was good but I had a hard time staying interested. But I have the typical attention span of someone who was raised by the family television.

WAKING LIFE was amazing... I love things that are heavily draped in existentialism.
