I'm interested in buying the Matrix, Star Wars and LOTR sets when they all eventually come out. In your opinions, which is better--to buy them separately or as a set?
Take Fellowship of the Rings for example--it has a LOT of extras on it. Will the Fellowship in the set have as much, or be re-packaged with less perhaps?
I appreciate your feedback. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Eeek! Hard to say.
I own the original trilogy of star wars, and then the special edition. Then I bought the first 2 star wars, you know those new ones, on DVD. If they come in a box set, I might not buy them. So, can't help you there.
Not a big fan of the Matrix to buy the dvds, but I know my whole family will buy the dvds and the dvd set when it comes out.
Same with lord of the rings, although I love lord of the rings, so I might be in line to buy them too..or I can just stare at the Frodo banner the rest of my life. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
Hopefully that helps!
It's all a plot to make more money off the geek fanboys (and girls) I bought the Two Towers 2-disc edition, even though I knew the 4-disc special edition is coming out soon. Thing is, I gladly plunk down the cash irregardless- I have not the patience to wait a few more months for the good disc. So when the big two dozen-disc boxed set of LOTR comes out, I'll be forking over the soul of my first born child to own it. And when the bad-ass boxed set with all the Star Wars movies comes out, my second born will go on the block. I'd sell my own soul, but I already did years ago when I really wanted to learn how to play guitar... oh wait, no- I'm wrong. It was when I had an urgent need for a Baby Ruth. Besides, you can sell the non-special editions on eBay or at work. I traded Fellowship of the Ring for Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock.

If you don't want to pay for it then don't buy it. No one is forcing you to buy anything.

I'm not complaining, just making an observation and relating my experiences. Hell, I own three versions of Apocalypse Now on VHS and two more on DVD. I don't even want to talk about Army of Darkness... it's just plain sick! I'm a fanboy and I'll gladly buy every edition. The only one who seriously complains is my girlfriend... "It's just a different cover and you have both of these already on other discs..." "But sweetie- it's the BOOMSTICK Edition!!! It's Bruce!!!"

Sounds like you got money to burn, man. I think Vlad wants to know, possibly because he's somewhat like me--financially on the down-and-out, and probably can't afford every version.
Does anybody have any idea what the sets are going to be like? Some sets (like the Star Trek movies) are just the movies put together in a box. Others are remastered, with new footage, or whatever. Has anybody heard anything like that about these?

One dvd suits me fine usually, though I did replace all my VHS's films with dvd counterparts.

You see it depends, The matrix is probably one of those movies thats going to be a good one to get as the box set. Youll probably get all three movies, the animatrix and anything else wachowski duo can stuff in a fuckin dvd.
Fellowship of the rings probably will just be a box set that will have all three extended special editions(the ones that come in the collector boxes). so you might just get each special edition on its own.
Usually though you get a better price on the box set than if you bought all the movies individually. this is not always the case. Plus always remember that when you buy a box set, you going to take up extra room on you dvd rack.
The StarWars DVD box set will probably be the biggest selling box set ever and George "I got more money than southeast asia" Lucas knows it. So You can bet your sweet ass cheeks that that one is definatly one that is Box set worthy.
