Looks pretty sweet, JIM! Has anybody heard anything about the PS3?
This brings up a question. I was going to finally by a playstation 2, or an X-box, but should i wait till the next generation of concoles comes out? It seems like i always buy when something is on the way out.

Dave, since the PS3 promises to be backwards compatible, I'm just buying old PSX and PS2 games, and playing them on my brother's PS2. I haven't bought a system in a while, because he buys them all. Little tough to wait if you don't have someone like that around, but when the PS3 comes out, I'll have all the old games, and won't have to worry about pawning off my used PS2.

Well, I love all of the current consoles.
You would be missing out on some great gaming if you sat this one out. It looks like it's going to be at least two, maybe three years before we start seeing the next generation of consoles.
As for the most bang for the buck, right now XBOX's holliday package is pretty nice. Two games in the box, and if you have broadband cable, there's a two month free trial for XBOX live.
Add to that, there's microsoft's platinum series of reduced cost games. Just like Sony's greatest hits series.
C'mon, splinter cell for $20.00?! that's great!
XBOX hardware is pretty powerful to boot. Just don't like the fact you can't play DVD movies out of the box, whereas with the PS2, you can. Oh, and with the current iteration of the XBOX, you can hack that console to death if your'e so inclined. There's a LOT that one can do with the XBOX if you open up the case and look under the hood. Microsoft does'nt want the end user to do this, but boy is it fun!
You can make some really good use of that hard drive if you want to. *wink *wink.
One bad thing though. I feel like I'm paying into the darkside when dealing with microsoft. Can't trust them I tells ya!
Sony's PS2 is no slouch either. It's great across the board when it comes to it's gaming and movie playback.
A huge library of titles, and as mentioned before, PS3 is said to have the backwards compatibility feature just like the current PS2 console. So the games you buy now, won't die in the future. Although, I'm hearing that Microsoft is thinking about doing the same...
It's online gaming is not up to the level of microsoft's, but at least for right now, there's no subscription fees like the XBOX. Don't get me wrong, it's fun too. I just have a problem with it's current pricing. They really should'nt be charging $180.00 for the package. It should be at the most, $150.00 for the whole deal.
Ninetndo's GameCube... Oh the red-haired child of the industry.
It's a great, great console if you just play games.
Nice hardware, and some wonderful, wonderful games.
Really, some of the best I feel. Plus, That price drop to $99.00 is a very sweet deal.
But...
They still have the problem with third party support. Nintendo is trying to make up for that with their own games, and the handful of companies that support it.
If you're into online gaming, forget about it. It's not happening. Although, a student recently made it possible to play network capable games through a PC and GC, It's a hackers project, and for now it only runs on his school's high speed network. It's not for the casual user at this time.
If there's a couple of games that you really want on the GC(Star Wars! Mario Cart! Zelda!), get it too. Just know that it's days are probably numbered. But crazier things have happened. Supposedly, they just increased their market share to thirty-seven percent. Not too shabby...
I don't know if that made it worse for you, but hey, jump in and get gaming! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

The Zelda bundle for Cube looks sweet, if you're a big Zelda fan. Both of the NES Zeldas and the 2 N64 Zeldas all on one disc, bundled in with the system. But that's just the Nintendo freak in me speaking.
But prices are probably the lowest they're going to be, until the next generation of consoles comes out (mid to late 2005, most likely). So which ever console you want, you should get now, while it's cheap but still current.
Thanx for all the info guys, I didn't know how far the next gen's were, but i figured that with the price drop on the current ones it might not be far off. but if i can get 2 or 3 years out of one i think it's a go! Now to make a decision....
