View Full Version : One Hand Hyping

I'm pretty awful at this hyping thing, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Not that this board for "Columns" is really used for that, it seems (shouldn't "what's the best Kevin Smith movie?" go under the other forum? Doesn't matter...).
But today (a day early, my Easter/Passover/Lakers Playoffs present to you), I talk about meeting Ray Bradbury, take a look at whiny Ed Burns' new movie CONfidence, take an advance look at a SPEED RACER DVD and profess my deep heterosexual love for Dave Grohl.
All right here: http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/onehand/index.html
Also up right now is a new MONKEY MAN, some TV RECOMMENDATIONS from moi (full of really bad jokes, as always), Antony Teofilo's JERSEY GIRL profile continues in RENAISSANCE MAN and a few letters from all you wacky so&sos in the MAIL SHOOT.

Yeah, I wondered about the appropriate use of this forum too, but oh well..
Anyway, enjoyed your column! Martian Chronicles is a fave of mine too, though the book I try to read at least once a year is actually "Franny and Zooey"!
Keep em coming!

Ryall... I have this hetero-passion for Grohl that is nearly mad. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif The guy is just brilliant! He may be the most talented mother-shitter on the planet (outside of some Delta Force operator who plays guitar, sings and sneaks into enemy territory and blows shit up too, all before 6am).

Wow. That Bradbury stuff was great. I've never been a fan (mostly because my life used to be so terrifying that reading scary books turned me nearly comatose with fear, just thinking about all the monsters that hadn't attacked me yet) but I understand that he's revered by anyone else who likes to read. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif And he sounds like such a cool guy. I might give his books a try now that I'm not such a scaredy-cat. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
...Did you actually send Dave Grohl that letter? /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Seriously, "The Veldt" still scares me.

I totally agree with you about everything you said about Dave Grohl. I saw Foo Fighters in concert a few years back in Toronto, and they are just entertaining on every level. For added amusement, they had a freak show on the side of the stage.
As a side note, I've seen Dave in many interviews, and he is just about the funniest guy around. It's so nice to see someone in the music industry who is successful, and actually seems to want to be there.

anything that has even the slightest mention of Dave Grohl really doesn't need any hyping...
and i fully agree..one of the best things about seeing Dave Grohl perform is the bits in between the songs....he's a very entertaining fellow

No, that's cool, other than the fact that I sound a bit like an obsessive mental patient in my "love letter" portion...lemme know if people rip it apart or praise it wildly!

It's okay to be such a huge fan.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Grohl is one of the best entertainers of our generation. He doesn't need fireworks or dancers or big screens, he's a man of pure enthusiasm and energy.
And he seems like a genuine person. His enthusiasm doesn't seem to be fueled by contracts or money. He will be around a lot longer than most of his peers in the industry.
And he's so frisky... damnit! Your love letter is now bringing out the borderline hetero love for Grohl in me.
But I completely relate, man. His concerts have this lasting impression on you that is hard to express to other people. Just don't mistake Grohl's birthday for an anniversary with a significant other, or do anything that mixes up love and fandom.
" I sound a bit like an obsessive mental patient in my "love letter" portion...lemme know if people rip it apart or praise it wildly!"...
For the most part the people over there seemed to be into it. a phrase that seemed to come up in almost every post, especially the ladies posts, was something like "Aww, that's sweet." and most others seemed to get what you were saying. one dude wrote something about how you nailed the vibe of a Foo show, and it made him want to see them agian. That being said, a few folks were weirded out by it.
If anyone is interested there is an acoustic video for Times Like These on FooFighters.com under the news section.
