Here ya go. (http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/monkeyman/index.html)

Pretty funny actually. Lynch is no political comedic genius but he did get a few chuckles from me.

It is really a piss-poor attempt at making a point about the "Bush war" but the simplist will love it! Also, BIG EARED BUSH! It doesn't get much better than that.

Oh and Bush getting pulled over was GENIUS. I laughed so hard I exploded an eye. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

My soapbox is leaking? Jesus beezus, right on. What I meant was, everything ain't exactly done in Iraq. And once Iraq is "done", he's movin' on somewhere else. Not really a dig at the man (though I can do that, if you want me to), I'm just saying in the comic, he ended the world, in real life, he's still chuggin' along.

There are maybe two things that true war mongers and/or military radicals respect... and that is power. You show power and it can often stop war in such a region.

There is an interview with bin Laden on one of the PBS (Frontline) sites (uncut, un-edited) where he talks about the reason why al-Qaeda is now engaged in Jihad with the US. The underlining reasoning (besides the US placing troops in "holy land") is that "we" showed weakness in Mogadishu by pulling out after some of our men died.

Before that the Mujahadeen respected and feared us.

However, the country is and these people are speaking up against him knowing that their careers could suffer for it. I respect that.

This country needs more people willing to speak out against anything and everything we do or we may end up with another Guatamala/UFCO horror where tens of thousands of people were killed under the guise of "ending communism" that was later proved to have never existed.

Question, question, question... it is what will make us a better people and keep our government from going too far.

Oh, and as far as Brian's strip being topical, a little over a week ago, Lawrence Eagleburger, the Secretary of State under George Bush Sr, told the BBC : "If George Bush Jr. decided he was going to turn the troops loose on Syria and Iran - after that he would last in office for about 15 minutes. In fact if President Bush were to try that even now, I would think that he ought to be impeached. You can't get away with that sort of thing in this democracy."

Since Brian wrote his strip a couple of weeks ago, I'd say he was a super genius..

And I don't think it's a matter of being embarrassed by our power, it's a matter of using the power ethically. And in cooperation with the rest of the world.

But I am glad to see you got that belittling thing under control.

Karinations, You're kidding right? TV News is so right-wing it's ridiculous. If they show anyone anti-war at all, the newscasters make fun of them. So much for unbiased news reporting! And I am not just talking Fox either. There was an article about that in the NY Times last week!

Razorback
04-22-2003, 05:25 PM
Do you think that France, Russia and Germany (Russia and Germany have now basicly apologized for not supporting us) objected to the war due to moral or ethical reasons?

There are reason why those countries did not want the US and UK to invade Iraq and not a single one of them had anything to do with the action being wrong. It had to do with their unethical and illegal associations with Iraq during the last 12 years (some of which we have already found).

I don't mind people objecting to war (any war) but I do mind when people use fiction to do it (I am not accusing you of that, just making a point about others).

News channels have it easy, peace protestors practically make fun of themselves. The last rally in DC I saw on TV had some woman wearing bedsheets full of pins and flowers acting as their main speaker. It was hard not to laugh. And those protesting puppets? I know there's a signifcance behind them, but its so irrelevant to the purpose.

If protestors had their main speaker wear a suit, maybe they'd get some respect.

The news media in the US is far from right-wing. However, I think it is much more pro-American than it has ever been before. Patriotism is not right or left wing.

I think David Cross said something about going to an anti-war rally some months ago (could have been last year at some point) and that he was embarrassed by the people there.

He made a great point about the protestors dressing up like idiots and using silly slogans like "1, 2, 3, 4 we don't want your racist war" when it has nothing to do with the reality of the war.

If you want to be taken seriously you don't dress up like some 60's radical... you dress up like a respectable person, or at LEAST you get your facts straight and protest logically. Don't just protest because it "feels good".

Razorback
04-22-2003, 05:50 PM
I won't disagree with that. I think that is going on. What you should consider is why it is happening. The NY Times is just pointing out the obvious in that respect.

Why is FOX News so popular? Because right wingers are hungry for news/attitudes that resemble their own. They are tired of being told by the two coasts (where a large portion of the media resides and preaches its point-of-view) that their ideology is backwards and wrong.

So when the EIC (or whoever is running the show) sees that putting forth a right-wing "feel" to the reporting means an increase in ratings then that is what will happen.

I think that the news media has ignored the "silent majority" for too long and is now feeling the thirst of that mindset (similar to how Nixon ignored the vocal minority with his "Southern Strategy" and made the Democratic party the party of minorities by default, the news services are now seeing their audience abandon them for the other side).

RB

Razorback
04-22-2003, 05:54 PM
Don't think that the US walking around with a big nuclear stick will motivate other countries any more to build the same weapons. Those that want nukes are already working hard to acquire them.

If every one of our enemies had a nuke we would just become re-engaged in a Cold War mentality. That won't make the world any better... in fact, more people died during the Cold War than during WWI.

RB

Jessica
04-22-2003, 06:01 PM
Well, the article really only mentioned TV news in that respect.

It's fine if the majority of people feel a certain way. What I object to is the mocking of the either side on what is supposed to be an impartial news show. You have to admit that Fox news, particularly, is a bit Jerry Springer..

It's disappointing.

Anyway, I've spent enough time here, I need to get back to drawing.

I am one of those nutty people who actually researches his opinions. I think it is important that when someone asks you why you feel a certain way about something you don't just re-state what you heard on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, BBC, Al-Jazeera or what you read on MSN, Drudge Report etc. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

So...misguided...head going...to ..explode.

Ok the BBC is pretty much excluded from any reasonable political commentary.
Jim J Bullock is less anti-Bush than the BBC.
Karl Marx is all like"wow those guys are biased".
As far as "turning troops on Syria,it would be within every right to do so if we thought they were a substantial enough threat.
As far as an outrage, sure the NY Times,Washington Post,Boston Globe,CNN,ABC,CBS,NBC,National organization of Women, the NAACP among others would be outraged.
But would everyday, taxpaying, hard working, law abiding American citizens be outraged?
I'm not sure what the show of hands on that would be...
And as far as impeachment,i think YOUR boy Bubba is the only one to hold the office in recent years that needed to worry about that.
And as a side..
His wife's ass is so fat she could be considered an honorary senator of New Jersy.

>>>>>Since Brian wrote his strip a couple of weeks ago, I'd say he was a super genius..<<<<

Y'know...the term genius is tossed around waaaaay too much.

>>>>And I don't think it's a matter of being embarrassed by our power, it's a matter of using the power ethically. And in cooperation with the rest of the world.<<<<<

Define the ethical use of power?
Any use that is say...sanctioned by the UN?
Well ok let's say(and i don't know how you really feel about it)that if an action in defense of America is given the greenlight by the UN,that makes it ethical.(?)
There are some commies that would indeed say yes that would be substantial enough to go ahead and defend ourselves.
Which would be saying,in essence that foreign countries(99% of whome hate us,want our stuff, and envy our power)would decide when we could defend ourselves.
That makes tons of sense.

Where to rebutt? Heh...butt...

First, FOX lost all creditibility when the Fox News ticker on Sixth Avenue had the "news" headline: "Attention protesters: the Michael Moore Fan Club meets Thursday at a phone booth at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street." Class. Totally professional.

The BBC didn't make the comment. It was made TO them by a chum of Dubya's daddy. I know some people don't research their info, but it was in the same paragraph.

Syria is NOT a substantial threat, and so there ISN'T reason. That's why people are against it. I know people ultra-left to ultra right who agree on that. It seems only the Bush bandwagoners are behind this proposal.

If all of those organizations, who report to and/or represent the tastes of their customers or members, would be outraged, don't you think that DOES reflect the opinions of a signifigant portion of the public? By the way, I am hard working, tax-paying, and law abiding, every day of the week.

Bubba is not "my boy," nor is he some hero to all of us on the left. Go far enough left (or right in many cases) and you'll find that truly political people will be at least somewhat critical of the two-party system and the politicians it produces. I have not been in favor of any president in my lifetime. All of them have had indiscretions I find unacceptable, and I'll be critical of anyone who I think deserves it.

Killing is not an ethical use of power. If this administration was half as religious as they say they'd know that. They have a problem with ten-item lists, Commandments, Bill of Rights, whatever. The UN is a peace-keeping body. They are there to prevent war if possible. Non-killing type stuff.

How is a pre-emptive strike on a country that may be in possession of outdated weapons we sold them (that hasn't mattacked anyone since we last went in and whooped up) defending our country? Mention the World Trade Center and I'll gladly send you on a learning tour of Saudi Arabia, who we haven't attacked, we've actually used as a base of operations. Not Iraq, or Syria.

Do you understand the term commie, as in communist, as in not capitalist? If other counrties envy our stuff, it's not the DVDs, cars, cell phones. They would probably envy our food, shelter, medicine, the stuff we could easily afford to send them if we weren't spending billions building weapons to blast countries further back into the stone age than they already were.

And I'm spent...

Bad day at work, needed to vent.

Study a bit more... Egypt is the real problem. As for Saudi, we don't just attack an ally because a few of its citizens attacked us. If 19 Canadian citizens attacked the White House should we end all relations with Canada? Should we bomb them?

Sure, there is a problem with Saudi Arabia but it is much more complicated than "some of the terrorist were from there". The birth of Islamic terrorism has deep roots and they barely touch the ground in Saudi Arabia.

I'm not saying we should go after Saudi. I was making a pre-emptive strike against use of the 9-11 argument, mainly because usually I have to as a default FAQ when discussing this. It's sadly become habit.

All in all, I'd best be described as a peacenik. Why can't we stay home, or use the military for building roads and shelters in underdeveloped nations, or something positive? We have the intimidation of being the big SuperPower. Why not use our powers for good. Be an example to the world instead of making examples of others.

I know it's ridiculous and idealist, but I've found one has to travel further when aiming for an unreachable goal. Acceptable and plausable aren't how things get truly achieved.

............................................
And CNN retains their credibility after witholding information about atrocities being committed in Bagdad for a decade to maintain acess to the city?
That's pretty professional too.
I can see if you are an intelligence agency and want to protect your men,but to withould that kind of information from the public and the US government just to keep doing "human interest"(propaganda) stories on the effects of "evil" US forigen policy on the Iraqi people is treasonous.

>>>>The BBC didn't make the comment. It was made TO them by a chum of Dubya's daddy. I know some people don't research their info, but it was in the same paragraph.<<<

...........................................

A post by a cartoonist on a Kevin Smith board and research
just don't go together in my mind.
Anyway..
The BBC would put on any disgruntled person to get an oppertunity to take a shot at President Bush or Prime Minister Tony Blair so it's hard to take them seriously.
These guys would trot out ex-girlfriends if they could.
The BBC is about the same quality as the countries leading newspaper the SUN,the best scource for Britney Spears sunbathing photos.

>>>Syria is NOT a substantial threat, and so there ISN'T reason.<<<<

..................................

Ahhh you must work in the defense department or something.
Whew, now i feel better about Syria...

>>>Bubba is not "my boy," nor is he some hero to all of us on the left.<<<
..............................
All of you on the left huh?
You speak for a lot of people, that's pretty cool.

>>>Killing is not an ethical use of power.<<<
"Killing" as you say,is an unfortunate byproduct of war.
War is sometimes necessary as my uncles, grandfather and dad would tell you as they have all fought for your right to have your opinion.

>>The UN is a peace-keeping body. They are there to prevent war if possible.<<<

.....................................
That just happens to be made up of enemies of the US,no biggie..
We should take that building and make a nice ice skating rink out of it,or maybe a giant mall.

>>How is a pre-emptive strike on a country that may be in possession of outdated weapons we sold them (that hasn't mattacked anyone since we last went in and whooped up) defending our country?<<

.....................................
Yeah i agree, that doesn't sound like much of a threat to me.
What country are you talking about now?...

>>>Mention the World Trade Center and I'll gladly send you on a learning tour of Saudi Arabia, who we haven't attacked<<

................................
When are the troops landing, let's get to it.

>>>>not the DVDs, cars, cell phones. They would probably envy our food, shelter, medicine,<<<

.........................................
Yeah i was noticing all the Iraqi's looting blankets and guaze and not TV's and furniture...

>>the stuff we could easily afford to send them if we weren't spending billions building weapons to blast countries further back into the stone age than they already were<<
.....................
Sorry but the US is not in the catering business, maybe your beloved France can help you with that.

>>>Do you understand the term commie, as in communist<<

................................
Yeah You.

Don't know how he does it, but he does it. 29 hours a day, weird.

Oh, and I quote Razorback from the thread of posts after the last PATCHOULI strip---

"Brian, I am one MM's biggest fans. I read them all."

>Stick to writing barely funny dialogue.

Stick to flirting with Affleckie instead of the petty insults, man. This is pretty uncalled for.

Besides, I know you don't mean it--I guarantee you'll laugh at the upcoming strips with the new artist anyway, and then think how foolish you'll feel for saying this. You'll be all "Hey, Chris, can you delete my mean ol' post?" and I'll be like "no" and you'll be all "come on, man, I was just lashing out," and I'll be like "no" and then you're all "shit" and I'm all "still no" and then you're all "damn" and I'm all "should've thought of that before posting" and you're all "sorry, man, and tell Brian sorry" and I'll be all, "Well, that's a little better."

That's me, all thinking about stuff. Having ideas and whatnot. We should film him getting kicked in the balls, and then put it out in theaters with a warning preceding it saying how you should try it at home. When we lose the freedom to speak our mind, buy what we want, have what job we want, and get the government we want, we lose anything worth fighting for. If I was a commie, I'd be a bad guy in an 80's action movie. We have plenty of decent relationships with Communist countries. They were hated because we needed an enemy, not because the ideas of socialism are evil. A dictatorship is evil. We have a new enemy that fits that mold. Communism is just a red herring. Lynch is doing the same thing as Jim Davis, he's pursuing a career that he enjoys. Writing and drawing to appeal to the largest audience possible is known as adverstising.

Now I really hate flaming anyone directly, the 'own you' bit just sounded funny in conjunction with the 'cyber smokin', cause that's how us gangstas talk to oneanotha when we get in a hizzay over some shizzay like thissizay.

Seriously, can we act like adults and stop attacking each other? And using gay in a derrogatory manner is generally unacceptable on this board. I'm GLAAD it's not my decision on whether or not to ban you, that's up to the powers that be. Or the moderators. Call em' whatever the heck you want.

If you're going to cause a stink about it start with Comedy Central and work your way down to the rest of the world's population.
And i lived with a gay guy and grew up with 2 others and have said "that's gay" around them over 2 billion times.

MonkeyMan would be an awesome Muppet! He's got the right fur and a good shape to be made into a 3 dimensional puppet. Maybe you can get him to be the next character on Sesame Street who teaches kids not to believe everything they hear and the difference between a good and bad movie. But it won't end there.

You could then beat Alf to the punch and have the first talk show with a puppet.

Then that will fail and you'll have to do celebrity boxing with a puppet from Crank Yankers.

But things will pick up and MonkeyMan gets a gig being the weatherman for a little before moving into his own syndicated sitcom. Then the world falls in love so deeply with MonkeyMan that a unitarian wedding is held where the entire world marries MonkeyMan!

Never mind, that's complete nonsense. Monkeyman could never do the weather!

"And i lived with a gay guy and grew up with 2 others and have said "that's gay" around them over 2 billion times."

Well, dating histories aside, make it two billion and one and you'll need to find a new place to hang out to share your scintillating opinions.

It's pretty simple here--no name-caling, no homophobia or racism. And once you get to 1,000 posts, you're banned (sorry, Razorback, that's our new LOGAN'S RUN-style rule...).

By the way, please don't lump yourself in with Comedy Central--they're actually funny.

OK let me get this straight....
People are complaining about me using the word gay on a KEVIN SMITH BOARD?!

Have you people seen his movies?
Jay and Silent Bob or ANY of them?

Isn't it ironic?
Don't you think?

See, here's the biggest problem with people like you -- you have no ability to see the way a Kevin Smith or Howard Stern uses words either for humor or to show how ridiculous some people can be. You follow them in a brainless fashion, thinking, "hey, a dick or fart joke was funny when they do it, so if I call someone a dick, it must be funny, too."

Leave the humor and the ability to know right from wrong to the professionals, man. Or just keep pushing things here and, ironically enough, you won't be here any more.

Seriously, the difference between using the word "gay" in humor and calling someone that as an insult is so vast that it's not worth my time to try to explain it to you. Just don't do it again.

Ryall i just got your message and i think it would be totally hilarious to get banned from a Kevin Smith board for using the word gay.
I mean...that's a good story right there:)
The world loves a whore but it hates a hypocrite.
It's ok for his movies but not his messageboard?
That's an interesting dichotomy,im pretty sure none of you will have anything to say about it too.
Also being banned will have nothing(really) to do with a new rule you just made up, but more to do with the fact that im not a liberal.
That's pretty plain to see...
So i leave you all to your crude cartoon drawings,Bush bashing and aspirations of being in Wizard.

Our time together was short but i will cherish it *sob* forever.

So fly low, beat the radar, wherever you go there you are, ect, ect

I KNOW, like, that would be so gay.

"It's ok for his movies but not his messageboard?"

Wow, you try to be nice...um, riddle me this, please--do you understand that the movies are humorous FICTION and this is you calling names in (a close cyber-approximation of) REAL LIFE? Do you think Kevin goes around on the street and says that someone he doesn't like is gay? Of course not -- you're being silly and obtuse. I'll say again, when other people use words ironically or humorously, they're doing it to make a point in a MOVIE. You're doing it to be combative.

"Also being banned will have nothing(really) to do with a new rule you just made up, but more to do with the fact that im not a liberal."

Please. As a Green Party Unitarian Jew for Jesus Straight-Edger, I'd be all alone if I banned everyone who didn't agree with my politics. I actually have no clue who you vote for, I just don't like your insults.

"So i leave you all to your crude cartoon drawings,Bush bashing and aspirations of being in Wizard."

All this anger is based on a Bush cartoon? Wow, I bet Jon Stewart is anxiously awaiting your letters.

I just took a moment to rewatch all of the movies. I found a way to play DVDs at 16x with the sound on, like those BlipVerts on Max Headroom. What I noticed was that the characters who you the term "agy" as you are were either cartoonish idiots, like Jay, or chided for doing so, like Banky. They were never meant to be the people one would aspire to. In Banky's case, he later showed to be putting up a closet door. Hopefully that will delineate for some of the Peanuts gallery.

And I really think Lyman was gay. Not in the derogatory sense. I mean, for the time period, those outfits and that moustache put him in Rip Taylor land.

And by agy I mean gay. I forgot we weren't creatively respelling to get around the censors.

And I never learned to read.
