I was watching MASH on Tv, and I noticed the canned Laughter. I know its been there forever ,but I never really thought about it. I HATE IT! As I am typing this Sports Night came on, and you know what? Canned Laughter as well.
I really dont need a laugh track. They dont have them in movies and some really good shows that can be funny dont have them (I have yet to hear a laugh track on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or South Park)
So here is my statement to you guys/gals/and smurfs.
Do we need Laugh Trackes anymore?
Laugh tracks have to go.
I can't stand them.
Cant stands 'em I tells ya!

Yeah, they eventually rescinded the laugh tracks on MASH and Sports Night. It's one of the more awful aspects of an already awful genre, namely the sitcom.

Touche.
There are the occasional bright spots. But on the whole, I'd say sitcoms rate just above drawing with your own excrement as a form of creative expression.

I think they should only be in completely unrealistic situations, like in Scooby cartoons... or maybe when I'm walking around doing something that's not funny.

Well, Sports night has the canned laughter because no sane person would laugh at that show unless a gun was at their temple.

Sports Night was on great show. I was so sad to see it go, since the night it came on, I stopped evertything to watch it. Ok, so I did have a crush on Peter Krause, but that isn't the point. The show was written really well and the acting timing was on point. It was just on the wrong network and a really bad time slot and was really sad that ABC didn't give it as big of a chance that it could have.
Ummm, you guys, with out a laff track, how am i supposed to know if something is funny. And add my name to the list of folks who didn't get Sports Night. It was a well produced show, but i didn't get it. Then agian i really liked the Single Guy, so that shows what kind of taste i have.

I agree that laugh tracks are a sign of lack of confidence in the show, but I'm all for live audiences. If the performers can feed off of reactions, the show usually gets a lot better.

Canned laughter aside, I really hate it when someone enters through a door and gets a mighty ovation its at least as annoying as canned laughter.
